The innocent love made this movie special on its own way, it was a great adaptation. I totally recommend it: if you watched the anime of course you need to watch this and if you haven't then just give it a go and you will just fall in love with it.

Kimi ni Todoke is one of the sought out japanase manga these days. Even my cousin (who is an adult in his own right and definitely a straight guy) enjoyed this movie. He professed on watching the anime, while I opted on reading it since the manga production is much faster than that of the anime version.
As for the movie, like almost every Japanese film I’ve seen, it had a slow pacing at first until things build up to the point where you couldn’t stop watching anymore and just get totally hooked up. The story is very simple, boy likes girl, girl likes boy… we all know how teenage romance could get going.
What makes this movie different?
I would have to say that it’s Sawako’s character. In teenage romance stories, there are the usual girls who are the brassy type: loud, war freak or popular. There are those opposite characters as well: very quiet, aloof because she’s shy or because she has lots of family problems or was being abused in all kind of things or she’s plainly an anti-social person.
In Sawako’s case, (the protagonist in this movie) has a peculiar character. She has no family problem since she’s very much loved by her parents, she has no image disturbances only that she’s being usually mistaken as a curse giver thus the SADAKO nickname came about and she’s not poor either so financially she is stable. So basically she had no flaws when it comes to her personality background. So what’s so interesting about her? The protagonist is a misunderstood person. She gets ignored but not bullied, she tries to blend in and be friends with everyone but instead is feared upon. Sawako is actually a nice person but she just don’t know how to show it properly.
That’s where this bubbly Kazeha guy comes in. He alters Sawako’s tiny universe and thus the high school romance begin.
I would say the manga is more detailed when it comes to projecting how these main two characters feel. What they are thinking are made in tiny thought bubbles that cannot be used in the movie because that would just be weird.
Cinematography was very simple because the setting was always in the school grounds and yet the angles and perspectives gives out a bigger impact on the viewer. As for the soundtrack, it was synced in properly with all the scenes and the choice of music if very appropriate for a soft themed movie.

One thing that disappointed me a bit was the ending. Even though it would not fit Sawako's character very well if something big had happened, I wanted it to be more special.
Furthermore I wanted to know what happened between Ryuu and Chizuru afterwards. It would have been so nice to know ...
All in all I enjoyed this movie a lot maybe because I have not watched the anime yet and cannot compare. Anyway, I think the movie is worth watching and maybe I will rewatch it in a few weeks (:

Story : CUTE&SWEET;. These two words describe it the best. Its heart-warming and relates very well to people who hold little similarity with Sawako's character. Also it shows the bond of friendship that involves sacrifice, strength, togetherness, trust, love, belief against all odds.
It shows how a quiet person can be misunderstood because of their no efforts on socializing. And also cherry blossom trees play a very wonderful part in the movie.
Acting : I love Miura's character. He proves that he is best suited for the role of Kazehaya. So, if you're a BIG fan of Hamura Miura, he's all the reason why you should watch this. I really liked Yano-san and Yoshida-san as well and Sawako's sincerity towards them. Also a special mention on Sawako's parents who love her unconditionally because no matter how she was to the world, she was their precious jewel. :)
Music : I didn't really hear much of the soundtrack as the acting by everyone kept me happy at bay. But I'm sure, it'd be nice.
I watch it when I stumble upon it. Its a very light story and will make you smile. A very simple story, yet hooking. If my will could be forced on everyone who like Miura and this kind of genre, I'd make you watch it :P
Happy Watching :)

For those who would be interested in such a movie, I think you all come in many different styles and backgrounds. I think it would be easy for anyone to relate to these characters, because we have all in some way went through the same situations, whether in middle school, high school, college, or even after that. We all go through these strange feelings of feeling open towards people, falling in love, and not quite understanding ourselves and our feelings. This makes this movie very compatible with everyone, boy, girl, young or old. I also think, in my opinion, that this would be a great starter movie. A starter movie, as in, a movie to show someone or yourself to watch, if you have never watched Asian movies, and need to find something that you would like. This movie would help you understand the Japanese and well…Asian concept of love, and friendship, and help you be able to understand other movies, where these subtle but confusing (if you don’t understand the culture) situations and acts that happen in most Asian movies and dramas (romantic, school, friendship). Over all, like I said, this movie is amazing, made me cry, and laugh, and was very accurate to the original source (as good as it can be), and I recommend it to everyone, because in my opinion, everyone can relate to it.

I absolutely disagree with that! It was just awesome and it fitted exactly in the image I would have imagined for the live-action after loving the Manga and Anime so far...Sure it is my favorite Anime and I may be an little more in favour of it already before but it didn´t disappoint me^-^The actors were perfect for the roles,Miura Haruma as Kazehaya and Tabe Mikako as Sawako.I was most impressed by the actress of Sawako, she played her role very good and I could understand all her actions .What surprised me was that I was seeing the image of the Sawako in the Anime whom I loved very much before in a new whole image as before. It was stunning how I discovered habits, special ways of moving etc...in her.I got to know the same Sawako whom I knew and at the same time I found more, interesting things in her personality.Kazehaya supported her great acting and made it perfect all in all....The ending may differ an little from the Anime/Manga and therefore a few persons are disappointed but I am actually happy about the fact that it was different because it didn´t get boring because of that reason ^^
As for the music I gave an 7 because I rarely did notice it but I enjoyed to hear it as an background in some scenes*~*

This captured the same innocence and cuteness as the anime had, which is what made it so special to me. Miura Hamura captured Shouta's character perfectly, and I'm pretty sure he perfected the smile. I fell in love with his character all over again in this movie, I just wish they would of done a live action drama instead of just a movie since they left so much out! I also felt that they left out a majority of the comedy that the anime had as well and it would of been a nice touch for the movie.
I would recommend watching the anime first before seeing this or you might not enjoy it as much, but who knows, that's just what I thought while watching it.
If you're just looking for a cute innocent love mixed with great friendships then this would be a great movie to watch.

This is a very cute romantic movie, that will make your heart flutter sometimes and feel painful at other times. Also for people who enjoy school dramas with friendship and bullying stories this one's got lots of that too.
The story itself is a very good one, simple yes but nice.
The movie can be a little slow paced sometimes, certain segments of the story puts too much focus on only one story line that you can almost forget the rest, so the overall balance might have been a bit off but this can be looked over considering the point it's a Manga adaptation with lots of parallel stories and sophisticated characters and relations.
The story seems to have to a certain extent kept the main story of the manga unchanged, but I read on the Japanese Wikipedia that the details of her father's job (and I guess the story of the day she was born and him running off his orchestra concert to see his newborn child) is the movie's original. I really liked that they made small but really significant details to show how Sawayako is loved and cherished by her family, which makes one convinced how a person being feared and treated so distantly from all of her classmates can still acquire such selfless and people loving traits.
The cast was very well chosen, both Miura and Tabe suited their respective roles and did a fair job expressing them, also her two friends Yoshida and Yano's actresses really did a great job.
The Music is really unnoticeable throughout the movie, but I gave it a 7 for Flumpool's theme song "Kimi ni Todoke"
I gave it a 7 points rewatch value cause I tend to feel like watching Asian movies that I liked again with my sis ;-)

Please keep in mind that it has been a while since I watched this movie. I'm just writing what I remember in the writing hour.
The acting was cute and awkward, like it's portrayed in the manga/anime. In other words; It was fitting and good. I have no real complaints about it, since the actors did what they were supposed to.
The story itself is a huge twilight cliche with the outcasted and quiet girl, and the seemingly perfect guy who falls for her. Yet, it doesn't come across as a big cliche at all. Maybe it's because we all can relate at least one person in our life to Sawako? I know I can. (And I know a few Bellas as well, but that's beside the point.)
For fans of the anime, you'll be well informed to know that the movie covers the whole first season in a little over 2 hours. This causes the movie to be a little rushed, but I honestly can't remember it being too extreme. It includes the important parts with minor twists in order for it to progress at an okay pace, and does so in an okay way. No extraordinarily oscar-worthy way, but an okay way.
And did I mention that the actors look JUST like the ones in the anime? Because they do. Even my little cutie cakey Haruma. Oh yes you do. Oh yes you do!! *pinches cheeks*
In writing hour I really wish to rewatch this movie for two reasons;
1) The review would obviously be more detailed if I did so.
2) I have good memories with it, and it's nearly a year since I last watched it...
... which is, if I ever DO rewatch things, the minimum amount of time I wait before I eventually rewatch anything.
Seeing a score around 6-7 is a normal rewatching score when I've just finished something, I put it up there as well.
WOW what a ramblefilled review!
Hope u liek.

I loved the cast. Though I'm not a big fan of Mikako Tabe, I think she played Sawako well. And i may be biased with Miura Haruma, but I love him in almost every drama/movie he's in. The supporting cast was also great.
Maybe this would've been better as a 8,9 or 10 episode drama but for what it is, i think it was a great movie and i rewatch it all the time
