Sand Chronicle is adapted from manga whilst Norwegian Wood is from a famous novel. Both are loosely similar, main characters knowing each other since high school days, having experienced long-lasting trauma and their future being shadowed by it. Both movie will leave you with some kind of feelings, although endings are different.

Both movies are in Winter snowy setting. They have romance, death, die hearted love. Tragic. Slow pace. Beautiful white setting nevertheless

Kora kengo is an acotr in both films. Norwegian wood is more melodramatic than yonosuke which is more slice of life and comic. Both have the same nostalgia around youth and life

Fukuyoshi Hina, Arare, and Hana are three sisters whose family run Fukuya, a 450-year-old traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Kyoto. This is the story of their individual romances, love of family and sacrifices for the sake of protecting tradition.

~~ Adapted from the manga "Fukuyadou Honpo" by Yuchi Yayomi.

I like to compare both main characters and their self absorbed point of view in life. Both films are a book adaptations which depicts depression, suicide, sex, loss and life. It may be a bit slow but the story line, cinematography and acting makes up for it.

All together, both movies are beautifully written, definitely not a waste of time to watch.
