Yes it's the same concept as Gokusen, but its way better. Its edgier, its funnier and its got Mokomichi! I really liked this drama because of the exciting plot and situations that unfolded. I also liked how it had a touch of a psychological aspect to it as Otowa (Mokomichi's character) really scammed everyone by getting in their heads. Although the main concept is that this teacher comes in and changes the students and the school by teaching in unconventional ways, this story has so much more. The teacher isn't a teacher but an ex conman on the run, and we don't really know his name. I liked how this drama really let its characters mature and even though the viewer is privy to the inner workings of the con-mans set up you still don't know how things are going to turn out. This isn't a tear jerker but makes you think, laugh and gasp.

Ok. So how do I start?
I realy loved this drama. I know it's a similiar to GTO and Gokusen - there's a 'strange' teacher who teaches life lessons but it's still different. The teacher is a swindler and he started teaching by mistake but he is probably one of the best teachers I've ever seen. He knows what to say and when to say it. He's smart and kind ^^. There is also a beautiful nurse (there has to be something like that in this kind of drama), an assistant teacher (who is kinda lost) and a funny girl in class who sometimes might get on your nerves but if she is your friend then she is the best one you could ever have. A person who would never betray you for her own good.
All the actors fit their roles realy well. They know how to portray their character, what expressions to use and etc. Perfect ;)
Even though there's only one main song it realy fits the show. A song liar in a drama about a liar (in other words : swindler). When it plays you somehow feel relieved because you know that everything is okay now. Just this feeling ^^
In rewatch value I gave it 9 not because I didn't like something about it. It's just that if you watch it the second or etc tim you can't get that amazing exciting feeling which you get the first time watching somthing like this ;)

Sooo, in one sentence : when you have free time, if you love j-school dramas you should definitely watch this!!!
(I watched on gooddrama.net)

HAMMER SESSION is one of those dramas that can seriously question you about the workings of life.
The story mainly deals an important cinematic concept: DRAMA
While the story revolves around values that are portrayed dramatically realistic, it is on the other hand mutually inspiring. Each episode deals realistic problems amongst society which is tackled and processed by following a certain philosophical content. The plot remains simple, yet its flow is filled with overflowing emotional concepts and teary-eyed scenes which makes the series a golden. As a personal judgement, I find every story and every plot in the series extravagant, in a way it is rich in values, words, and emotions. I was totally engrossed with each stories presented in the drama, and I was left with no room to ponder about the next happening.
The cast was very familiar to me, since I stumbled upon them across different Japanese dramas. The actors and actresses here are all my bias, and I believe that they are totally in to their character as well. (They are great in crying, I swear!) They are of that type that can totally draw out emotions unto you. You will be mesmerized by their acting.
I am not a fan of music in dramas so I didn't pay close attention to it, but the background music seems to add spice amongst the emotional scenes depicted, so I think music is quite influential.
I give a not-so-high score for a re-watch value since, this type of drama can be a satisfying watch, but it will leave you that. The story leaves you to a satisfying end, inspiring enough but less entertaining.
In conclusion, it was outstanding, since the over-all factor of a drama is the satisfaction the viewer get by watching the drama. It was a truly inspiring drama, packed with teary dramatic concepts and real-time values. :)
Definetely a watch!

When I saw this drama I just thought it was an ordinary school drama nothing that special. After watching it, it became favorite drama of mine. This drama showed me why Hayami Mokomichi is a great actor (I saw first in “Gokusen 2” than in “From 5 to 9” than found a drama where he is the main role)

The story of each episode is very good. Students have problems and the teacher is there to help them. In Hammer Session I love that their is no fighting instead Hachisuka shows the students a “Hammer Session” and the Hammer Sessions are so cool to watch. I love his teaching, I wish more teachers could be like him. It felt realistic that you could connect with the student and their situation. The comedy in this is so funny and right on point mix with the drama.

Hayami Mokomichi played the role fantastic for both characters. Kaede she was annoying a lot. Assistant teacher was fine, the principal was alright, and Otowa’s partner was so funny he made me laugh a lot. I recognize some of the actors playing the students.

There is only one song which is at the end of the drama and it fits along with the drama. If you watch closely and listen there is a wonderful ost that replays for each episode and makes you feel better. Its one of the best osts I have heard. Its also on youtube.

I will rewatch this one plenty of times. I know this type of drama is the same as others but I wish some of these school dramas are made still. I really would like to see some actors that use to be the student in a school drama than be a teacher in a new drama.

I really enjoyed this drama. I know they are other dramas out their that are about the same plot but done better. However, this one was just fun. I enjoyed the last episode even if it was a little unrealistic but it was still good. I noticed that when it is a male teacher then a female student clings to him, ie GTO & Hammer Session. In Gokusen it is a male student who clings to her interesting. I loved the old guy janitor (Musaka Naomasa) and the girl whose father was a detective. The principle was ok too and I know from other dramas. Overall, do not expect it to be anything more than a teacher who should not be teaching but teaches kids like instead of just academics. I love school dramas that have a point of message and not just love stories.
