First off, season one and two are essentially the same drama, only split into two parts. There isn't really an end to this "season", so this review will be based off of episodes 1-21.

The story itself is a very light hearted typical romantic comedy. It has the seemingly cold guy and a bubbly girl. I definitely had my differences with the female lead. She has a habit of lying and turning bystanders against whoever she is targeting (let's be real, most of the time it's the male lead). I found that incredibly annoying and unlikable, but perhaps that is why she is the "fox" in the title. That does stop after about the first ten or so episodes so she has grown on me since then. There isn't really a major over-arching plot, and as of yet, since it is the incomplete story, there hasn't been a climax. The only things that really propel the story forward are the relationship between the female lead and the male lead and the "love square" that they're involved in.

As I mentioned before, the female lead began as very unlikable to me, but the actress portrayed that role quite well. I felt that the male lead however, could be a bit more expressive. I understand that his role is supposed to be cold and stoic, but his expressions could use a little more emotion.

The music wasn't very memorable, but it wasn't unpleasant.

This drama isn't anything special or new, but it is an enjoyable watch. It's a good light hearted show to watch especially as a break between some heavier dramas.

The drama is based on a Chinese novel. The main leads showed great chemistry with their funny & cute relationship journey. The show is not that cliche as I thought it would be. Just like any drama, there's characters that hate one another but not to the "crazy-evil" extent. Overall the show brought out more laughters and enjoyment during my watch.

Keep in mind, this review is solely focus on the first season

I have never seen a drama with so many evil people and that really ruins the drama for me. We got the greedy controlling mom, the evil stepsister, the wicked granny witch, the ugly supermodel, and even a stupid snobby co-worker who thankfully we got rid of early. This all spells for ingredients of me wanting to punch everybody. I have never seen so many ugly characters being against the female lead. This is just way too much toxicity in a drama.

Speaking of the female lead, she was quite annoying at first. I hated all of her lies that she keeps telling but eventually I grew to like her later on (once her lies eventually ended) with her strong female lead backbone and not letting any of the evil witches take her down. She got splashed by so many liquids a lot in this drama. That's ridiculous. The male lead is so weak. He can't even stand up to that evil hoe of a granny. I get so frustrated with him not using his authoritative voice to that stupid witch.

Can you say flashback central? GOSH! This drama is really focus on flashbacks. WTH? Seriously you could skip so many episodes and then catch up because of the amount of flashbacks they show in this drama. No need to even start from the beginning.

Even though it is funny, the toxicity of the evil characters really brings this drama into ruins. I wish I could say you don't need to watch this part of the drama and could just skip into the second season but unfortunately, this one doesn't work like that.

It was so cute and funny, I love it!

After being busy for a couple of months, I needed to watch a good drama and this one was perfect! It is light and fluffy, and was a very enjoyable watch. There was not too much drama nor complicated relationships that made me stressful.

It is about how Gu Chengze and Li Yanshu meet each other and gradually start to develop feelings for one another. They start off rough, with the both of them constantly bickering every time they see each other. At first they were enemies and despised each other, then as the story progressed on they began to adapt to each other's living conditions and behaviors (such as Li Yanshu's lying habits). Eventually, they end up living together and it is essentially what drives them closer together.

I liked how the story kept me wondering what was going to happen next, and I was always excited to continue watching. There are many questions that I developed throughout watching the drama, which kept me interested. I laughed a lot while watching this, and I love Tan Songyun. She is such a great actress, and does not disappoint. I have watched several of her works: The Whirlwind Girl, My Mr. Mermaid, and One Smile is Very Alluring. She is so pretty and always makes me laugh. Although I do not know much about Jiang Chao, I feel that he portrayed his character fairly well. His aura in the story does not come out as completely cold and distant to the female lead, there are actually many very cute scenes (and they made me laugh too).

Some have complained that there are too many flashback scenes, and I agree. Especially towards the end of the season, it was a lot more noticeable and I became more aware of how many times they would repeat a scene. However, this did not bother me at all. The season does end off suddenly, but fortunately I watched it after the second season aired so there is no gap or loss in interest from me. I will definitely continue watching. Cannot wait to see what is going to happen!

How to review this one...I found this drama via a recommendation from an instagram account I follow that recommends dramas. And overall, just based on season 1, I could have lived without watching this. I was exited to see that Seven Tan was in this drama because I LOVED her in My Mr Mermaid, and I do like her in this drama as well. She plays her character well, but I also didn't like her character Li Yan Shu. Yes, she has a sad past and has a fear of abandonment, so she doesn't let anyone close to her, but that doesn't mean you are allowed to be hella extra when interacting with people, almost everything coming out of your mouth is a sarcastic remark. Then we have Gu Cheng Ze who has the same mentality - he doesn't let anyone close to him but unlike Li Yan Shu, he never tells a lie and almost has this weird ability to catch people when they are lying. He always has this un-amused look on his face and is quiet most of the time unless he is working. PLUS, we have the "very original" plot of of Li Yan Shu being a total slob (seriously, it made me feel squirm watching her throw trash on the floor) while Gu Cheng Ze was germaphobic. Together, they always bicker and annoy one another. Regardless that Li Yan Shu is amazing at her job as a fashion designer, and Gu Cheng Ze is very good as CEO of his adoptive grandmother's company, their personalities are kind of trash. I was cringing while watching this, but I was super curious to see how it would all play out - After 7 years Li Yan Shu coming back to her hometown (no one knows what happened to her during these 7 years) and seeing how everyone reacted. Now being in the middle of season 2, I can say that this season was basically an appetizer or an introduction about how these two fell in love. Season 2 is the meat of this drama when everything we learn about in season 1 comes to light to test everyone's relationships. Other than the characters, I found this drama to be a little extra and VERY predictable. As we continue watching though, once Li Yan Shu and Gu Cheng Ze start to fall for one another, their personalities become a lot more bearable. Also, when Gu Cheng Ze finally smiles, IT WILL MELT YOUR HEART. HIS SMILE IS EVERYTHING. Other than that, this drama had a very typical mother or grandmother not liking the woman their son or grandson loves, so they do everything in their power to break them up such as Meteor Garden or Boys Over Flowers. This grandma doesn't measure up to those mothers, but she is a close second. Plus, it seemed like there were a lot more villains in this drama. The mother who abandoned her daughter, but still wanted to control her life; the step sister that that hates both step sister and step mother and is open about trying to ruin their lives; the ex boyfriend that is your boss that not only gives you a hard time about the past, but also at work; and of course the grandma that tries to drive you out of town.

I would rewatch it for the chemistry between the leads

Li Yan Shu (FL) : First things first, for someone who is supposed to not take shit from anyone, I lost count of the number of times she was slapped by people in the show, including the second male lead, her step sister, and Mrs. Gu (mother figure for the male leads). (The writers really overdid the slaps)

At her best, she was lively and mouthy, so it was painful to watch such a beautiful person brought down by bunch of harpies. Although the ML has a presence, it isn't as powerful as the female lead, the magic doesn't happen until the FL enters the picture, that's when the show goes from "am i going to continue watching it" to "Yes! I picked the right drama to binge watch!"

Gu Cheng Ze (ML): One gorgeous man. Loyal to the family that adopted him, even when the old brat didn't deserve it. Protects the FL on numerous occasions. Is kinda a green flag. Watching the FL and ML together is such a joy.

I wouldn't mind watching another drama with these two actors in the lead role.

Honestly, Season 2 is much better.

Some people like this drama. I didn’t so I just want to offer a different view for variety of thoughts.

I like the casting. I don’t like the writing of the characters. FL throughout the drama doesn’t develop positively. Throughout the show she is slapped so many times it’s unrealistic. Since in school even to adulthood, the grandma of her love interest has shown up in different places (classroom, office, events) and slaps her. Some scenes, three times and drink face splashed. Til end this was never straightened. From all these, character was never made to be stronger. She is really annoying falling all over, drunkenly stupid in many scenes, etc. I like actress Tan Song because she’s a wonderful actress but wished she didn’t sign up for this role as I can’t look forward to watching her now.

The story itself is not new. CEO is cold, with many inner struggles. Fights developing feelings for Fl. Except for eye candy, their ship never really sails. I’d never watch again but that’s just me.

Season 1 and 2

This is what happen when I don't have anything to do in my free time, clicked here and there, and saw Seven Tan drama so I stumbled upon this one. Did I like it? Hmm....no comedy romance that they're talking about...but if I am a teenager or on my early 20th I would probably like this drama too. I couldn't believe this actors (and drama) won the awards, I wouldn't award them with my broom metaphorically. Gu JinYu the legal heir of a big business was kind of a flamboyant man, wonder how he got reputation as a playboy from? Gu ChengZe as an adopted son oblige to pay back the gratitude and filial obligation towards his adopted family by working hard, super dedicated to the family business, loyal, and respect. Li YanShu (Seven Tan SongYun) on the other hand lied a lot, provoke situation into awkwardness, said what's in her mind, put herself in Gu ChengZe apartment free rent and ate his foods, she's kind of a free loader that I would kick her out...who knew she's a famous designer from LA by the name Karen something...that fashionable people look for her famous clothing designs...or any major designer house would be honored to hire Li YanShu. She's being hired by the ChengZhe to pursue JinYu so he'd concentrate on the family business instead of a lazy heir....at the end though different result. A good thing about this drama was easy, critical thinking wasn't necessary, IN if you like it - OUT if you don't....I stayed on season 1 and 2!!

A Waste Of Time

I started to watch this because I am a big fan of Seven Tan and Jiang Chao but this drama was terrible. The first 11 episode I could not stand Seven Tan acting. To me she was annoying. The story seem that it had a plot but I could not find it threw all 21 episodes. The story of the president assistant and his girlfriend was a better story and more romance. The main story with the lead characters had no romance just a lot of foolish playing with all different characters who I could not understand which way this drama was going. Seven Tan character was made to be pity but she was also scheming and then everybody hate her and her mother only care about her position, her sarcastic ways really annoyed me. How much more misery did the writer wanted to make the lead female to be. She might as well commit suicide by the misery this writer made her. I prefer to make her strong but I wanted to see a little happiness for her at least in the 21 episode I just watch. Jiang Chao seem to be back it his robot character from a different drama. He seem to have no feeling and did not even know how to have feelings I kept wondering if he was even human. The writer seem to try to write some human feelings but only to return him back as a robot with no charisma. You can write a serious character but still have some kind of quality charm. Both lead seem to have no chemistry and I found this drama a waste. I will try for the next 20 episode and I hope the write did better. Do not waste your time watching this try the 2nd season it might have some meaning.

I watched both seasons as one whole drama and felt that it was overall pretty meh.

Liked:
- The male lead was very good at portraying the cold CEO type character. His story was pretty sad too.
- It was easy to watch, like very easy to follow, light, funny at parts. Not too complicated and nothing really to piece together.

Disliked:
- I thought the family drama was pointless and did not really add anything to the story.
- I also didn't love the main female lead. She didn't defend herself when I felt like she should have and she was not very good at taking what was rightfully hers. I did like the plot twist with her character, but then I felt like it wasn't milked enough as character development.
- The love triangle was pointless, but I do feel like I saw a lot of character growth in the second male lead from it

If you're bored, can watch. Otherwise, don't waste your time la. Watch other ones!

Characterisations are super, The couple together is interesting

The couple together is interesting in first episodes. Involved in the Tan Songyun's play. It's worth giving a try if you love Rom-Com dramas. The couple together is interesting in first episodes. This show had me laughing till the end. It was one of the best I have seen. A superb job of acting. I love both main leads. They both brought something different to the screen. I love that no matter how eccentric both leads were they stay together in the end.
The story has a lot of twists and plots and I am glad that no matter what the leads find ways to manage to stay together. The ending to me was a little surprising,
This show is light and sweet and if you want a good laugh the characters are funny and sweet.
The only downside to Chinese dramas is that the story is dragged a little and once it comes to the end everything happens and it leaves your wondering what really happened in-between.
So worth watching.
