Here goes my first review on MDL...This was my first Chinese drama in years, and I enjoyed it a lot more than expected. The 51 episodes did not seem too long, and I was all in for the characters and their connections.
Like most, I was less than satisfied with the ending but honestly, I thought the acting in the drama was fantastic, and I was really caught up between which male lead I liked more. I was wholeheartedly invested in the story!
Try it out for yourself, and see if you don't get charmed by Ariel, Bin Bin, and Austin (and the side characters like grandpa)!

The love triangle is the best I ever seen, with a perfect depiction of a good guy versus bad guy, both charming in their peculiar ways. The lead actress is also a talented star that does not disappoint the fans. But as with most chinese productions, it seems to be deemed to be sub par because of the usual issues that plague them:
1) Productions stopped abruptly (example: I Will Never Let You Go)
2) Horrible endings fixed with messy editing (example: The Legends)
3) Poor acting (almost all cdramas)
4) Forced redubbing with bad lipsynch (almost all cdramas)
5) Lead actors change from season to season (example: Ever Night 2)
6) Insane censorship of scenes and themes (almost all cdramas)
What a pity! They have the talents, but because of those silly production choices china tv industry is a disaster...

*First of all, for me in order to decide to watch a certain drama first I have to like the leads, or at least like one of them.. So for this drama, I liked both leads =) Ariel Lin and Zhang Bin Bin... You can find their chemistry is perfect, I have always thought only he can have chemistry with Dilraba, but no, he also has chemistry with Ariel, and is soo good =) ( i´m smiling lol )
*Second, this is the kind of story that you keep thinking for the rest of the day, you know what I mean.? Like the acting is so real, their feelings are so real, that you as a watcher, you get inside the drama. you feel like you feel what the Main Lead Girl ( BU QI) is feeling, or you feel how the Main Lead ( CHEN YU/ LIAN YI KE) is feeling and you can understand the situation he is going through or why he had to take that decision... it´s so good =D
*Third, the story is great, at the beggining is a little bit of violent, but thats just for like 8 minutes, after that... the story begins with an optimistic and happy little girl, and her uncle, they are both beggars.. I don´t know, but I haven´t watch any other story where the main girl is a beggar, so that´s why this fact was really interesting for me.. So then you keep watching, and you wonder where is the guy..? well then comes the guy, by minute 17 of the first episode! And then a few minutes later we have a fight and appears a mysterious hero saving the beggar girl.. =) All this on the first episode.. really, this is soo soo good.. =D I don´t think I will find any other good drama this year except ths one... anyway
Overall, all the supporting actors are really good, I mean you like them, even you also hate the evildoers, so that means that their acting is good! =P Because the story is soo good, you follow the story, because is so easy to do it.. you are not frustrated like with other dramas, and you are wondering, why this character is doing this? But no, this doesn´t happen here, trust me..
***The clothing and costumes they use are nice and fashionable, not like other historical dramas, that the costumes are really ugly... I like their hairstyle, even their make up. .especially i liked zhang bin bin´s make up =)
***For my taste, I think the martial arts and violence is alright, is not so much.
**** I´m currently on ep 24... This show is still airing, I´m really enjoying it, and I honestly want to try to watch other show while waiting for the subs, but I just can´t, I kept going back to episodes, or looking for spoilers =P
So if you really want to watch a good show, give this one a try, you can find a strong female lead( Ariel Lin/ Hua Bu Qi) who is just adorable and charming but also determined you can see her cry but you won´t see her broken, and the main guy lead ( our Zhang Bin Bin) also is a strong character, that is not so easily manipulated.. He is also determined, funny, serious, smart, a Heir Prince ? =)
Anyway, I will continueto watch it, and I will leave this here if you want to give it a try... this is only my opinion, I haven`t liked a show so much this much in a long time, so i want to write a bit.
Regards!

The male lead is eyecandy and also knows how to work the subtle facial expressions in 'poker face' situations. He is very quick in analysing situations and jumps to the right conclusions. His deductive skills are amazing.
I'll have to admit: something about Ariel Lin's face just really irritates me. I think it's her upper lip or something. HOWEVER, the story was so good I stayed and after 15 episodes or so- they let down her hair. AH, that was so much better.
*EDIT*
I'm now at episode 27 and have lost interest. It's become really boring and I'm planning on dropping it if something interesting doesn't happen soon.

First I was really excited to watch this show as I was a big fan of Ariel Lin and Zhang bin bin . The drama started very well as I was contented with first few episodes, Ariel Lin character was very nice and she did her best Later the second male lead was very good in acting and I felt he dominated the first male lead . Hence i felt this show is not the best of Zhang bin bin
Last episode is really terrible and I do not understand why the director made it like that......................................

It's a must watch drama!
This drama really made me liked the characters and acting of the casts. Everything was great, except for the ending. I didn't think that it was necessary for that kind of ending, it lacks transparency.I really loved the music choice for the opening, ending, and every scene. It adds to the emotions conveyed by the actors/actresses everytime. I think the opening music is upbeat which makes me happy everytime I hear it. But I didn't like it whenever the scene after it is sad.
I extremely love the second male lead in this drama, I think he really made the drama stand out by their playful and interesting interaction with the female lead. He made me loved him more than the main male lead. Although I think both leads did a great job with their acting, I think it just made me have sympathy with the second lead more. I just love how the writers wrote his character, the drama was more fun with him in it.
Regarding the ending, I think it lacks transparency. It wasn't explained how such ending happened. I can't spoil anyone here, but I think that the plot was well-written. I didn't even think that it would end like that. The sudden changes with the characters' feelings and desire was splendid. It showcased how people can be when they desire power and embraced their hatred to other people.
Overall, this drama is a must to be recommended to everyone. The casts, writers, director, and everyone that made contribution to the drama must be rewarded.

A very good plot and story with an exaggerated a little bit bad ending
I don't know why so many people rated it so low. It is very interesting, absorbing and exciting drama. Even it had 50 episode and I didn't like its ending but throughout the whole series, the story was so good that I watched it twice already. From the begining to the end I can't see any problem except for the last episode. Amasing plot, good costum, very well acting, a lot of good actors, so much chemistry, and very good music. The only cons of this drama was its last episode. Even though some how it was counted as a happy ending (between ML and FL) but there were so many death at the end which some were really unnecessay among the important characters of the drama. Not mentioning the unnecessary scene for the fall of ML to then bring him back out of nowhere. So the only and only reason I won't give this drama 10 score is those death that were not really necessary and even were cause a break to the logic of this drama. Otherwise it is worth watching it and even the last episode don't make me regret it even a bit. Also, because it wasn't a bad ending for the Leads I've watched it twice.

Great start, but dwindles fast.
First of all I would like to note I love Zhang in this drama. His acting and his presence is absolutely great. This story has a great start w Buqi and uncle and then as it progressed it became very tedious and almost unbelievable. You are hoping the ML is not really falling in love with his sister. ......???? Not good. ?. Then finally it's clarified , but then many many EPS without Zhang n Buqi even together. I found myself not interested at all in the Dr. coming in and didn't even like his character. Not honorable and a Dr. ?? Boo. Not so believable and Buqi is not that gorgeous. Lol although I liked this actress immensely for her spirit and positive energy. If this has a bad ending as I'm not done I ll be quite disappointed because I think the writer or the series people took a bad turn in not doing justice to a story line that could have been super great. But I'm not into tragedy and overly romantic downers in my dramas. Give me a great ending especially if I m watching through more than 30 episodes... its like killing the dog in the end. ? ANYWAY I will look to watch more of Zhang in his dramas and movies, etc. as I really like his acting. I m beginning to note a tedious drama line playing out regarding romance in some of these dramas and I just have to say don't wear me out or kill me over a simple romance. Lol. I love romance but if drug out to point of misery Im over it and looking for a new series before the present one ends if so tedious. Im not even sure I can get through this one now because if Buqi ends up w this Dr. I will be like well there ya go beggar child gets loser husband and didn't learn anything in life ... not even how to protect herself. Tragedy. Will have to move on. I do like all the actors in this series. They are really good and Mo mom was very believable... bad mom .. lol .. ?. Mo son was a big let down tho. Anyway over all I seeing a big benefit of shorter dramas like 30 EPS as storylines seem to be much tighter and genuine.

Don't know how people finished this
I believe that the story is good from what I've seen. It has an interesting plot and nice looking action scenes. The intercharacter relationships are interesting as well, and I really wanted to find out what happens to each of them, but somehow the show feels like a crawl. It's so slow that I find myself doing other things on my phone as I'm watching it, and I'm just waiting for it to move on all the time. Maybe I got spoiled after watching Mr. Queen, where there was NEVER a dull moment. Even Boys Over Flowers didn't get boring until it started doing constant stupid flashbacks. Anyway, I didn't feel like wasting 40 more hours on this, it just drags on and on.Was this review helpful to you?
