Reviews
Brilliant adaptation of one of Agatha Christie's greatest novels
I went into this special with no small amount of scepticism. The original novel, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, is one of the greatest detective stories of all time. It is also notoriously difficult to adapt to TV, largely because of its unique twist which I will not divulge here. However, I was blown away by how cleverly and also faithfully this twist, and the story as a whole, was adapted in Kuroido Goroshi. The special's comedic tone also gave me some concerns when I saw the trailer. Again though, I was stunned by how naturally this fit the story. The cast of the special are absolutely brilliant, the writing is warm and cosy at times, and unafraid to make changes to better suit the story without in any way losing what made the original novel so special.
I wholeheartedly recommend watching for both fans of the original novel, and those who have not read the book!
The scriptwriting, acting and directing is excellent
Maybe I sound generous, but seriously one of the compelling SP I have ever watch.Acting
I thought Nomura Mansai acting is a little bit over the top with his voice and expression at first but once I got used to it, it makes the watching more interesting as it brings the character, but doesn't mean I am at peace with it completely, it is just adequate. But the storyline surrounding the whole event is just so well written that the two main leads acting really stand out to me. Oizumi Yo surprised me, because I've seen him in other dramas and his acting is pretty much just the same, not bad but the style is the same, he did the same here as well but it really suits his character one of his best portrayal.
Scriptwriting
I really have to praise the scriptwriting here, it's hard to write a mystery without the tendency to be too mysterious or it might ended up as too obvious but the flow of script is very witty, work as the required humor in any drama but this humor was not written just for the sake of requirement it was actually applied according to the plot unravel. Will forever remember that one scene that I laugh and later on backfired on me.
Directing
A good story telling need a good directing and it is excellent or else I don't think this SP can be shaped too perfectly like this.
It was one of my favourite watching experience and will for sure be a benchmark for any drama or movie I watch in the future.
