Excuse me while I go all soft and mushy. Lol I loved this movie! Don't get me wrong, I stayed stressed out the whole time. Did I need to be? Not a bit! This is probably the first time a movie has started out happy and ended happy. Lol
I kept waiting for some hellacious stuff to happen -- and while it did have it's up and down moments I'm so happy things worked out in the end! Also, I had no idea this was technically the second movie. >__< I'll have to find and watch the first one soon.

Not happy how his cousin and brother shit talked her most of the time. Like you see how happy they both are and you see how healthy their relationship is, yet because she doesn't fit YOUR standards, she's not good enough? Are you kidding me? While I wish he had popped off on them, I get why he didn't. I'm glad she blew up on Reon. I freaking swear I wanted to hit him. Lol His character is such.... well.... the more I think about it, his character really is American. Holy hell I'm shocked it took me this long to realize it. Lol the actor definitely played him well.

I feel like this movie is a rare gem not enough people know about. I mean, how often do you get love triangles.... that aren't even love triangles? Lol So many times we see one person get swayed. But not here. Main characters had eyes only for each other. My heart freaking shattered when he told her he was thinking about going to America.

The ending was super cute but I was still stressed out the teachers would find out the big secret and hell would break lose. X_X It's weird how the movie is over and I'm still stressing over this. Like they aren't even real!! LOL good grief! smh

So this movie is a sequel to the first L-DK from 2014 but it recasted all the characters and It takes place a little time after the first movie takes place. I really liked this one, BUT it does feel so disconnected from the first movie, while also making it that if you don't watch it, you miss so much information because the flashbacks are so small and don't make justice to the first movie. Regardless I think that I liked the new L-DK better. The pace didn't feel Rushed and Shusei was not playing with the FL's feelings. He actually really was in love with her.

Characters
I think my problem is that, while they just recasted the characters and left the story the same, it doesn't feel like they are the same characters. ML had a bigger presence in the first movie, being a person that seemed almost like a troublemaker, while in the new one he feels like a quiet straightface guy, to the point that, the SML reminded me more of the original Shusei. Mone Kamishiraishi reminds me also of the Aoi from the first 10 mins of the original movie. More outgoing and fun. She also got to reenact those amazing few minutes of the first movie too, so I believed she is Aoi.

It was fun and enjoyable but nothing special. I didn't find any chemistry between the male leads and the heroine. I have nothing against the actress, she's cute and can act cute but she's too short for the main lead. Sparks aren't there for them. They're more of a sibling than lovers. The actress is cute but doesn't really have that natural "aegyo" in her. Also, at point, I thought Yokohama Ryusei's character is more solid than Yosuke's. Ryusei being a second-lead almost stolen the spotlight away from male lead Sugion Yosuke. I think it has more to do with the acting. I may like Yosuke more but I have to admit that Ryusei has more presence and is better in acting here in the movie compared to Yosuke.

Despite those issues I have with the movie execution, the show has its moments. Cinematography is good and having two ikemen guys fighting over a girl is always a pleasure to watch.

The first L-DK movie was really good. This one is not a remake of that old one, but it's more like a sequel. The one thing that didn't really work for me was the fact that the story presented a background really quickly with some flash backs. If there was a mini series before the movie that would have been understandable, howerver, as a stand alone, that was a bit rocking the balance.

Other than that, the story was pretty good. The couple had chemistry and the girl was adorable and just right for that role. The love triangle was interesting too, as well as the conclusion, which was satisfying. The performances were pretty decent too.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

I'll be the brave soul out here that will dare to say that I love this movie better than the 1st.

1. Cast
i think most of the issue here is comparing Ayame (2014) vs Mone (2019). I do agree that visual wise, Ayame is totally on a different level. But looking at the story perspective, don't you guys think that it will be more believable to have an average visual Aoi especially on this 2nd movie? If the new leading lady is a pretty as Ayame, I don't think that Reon will have any chance of saying that it was unbelievable for Shuu to date someone like Aoi. Imagine him saying that to Ayame. (HOW DARE HIM LMAO).

Yusuke vs Kento, I don't think that this should be too much of an issue as both did a good job on their role (both have great visual). Tho I've noticed that there's a slight difference on how they portrayed the character. Kento gives you a Shuu that's more edgy & aloof while Yusuke gives off a calm, charismatic vibe. I think, the story definitely played a factor here cos in the 1st movie, it was mainly about the push & pull between the lead characters (the chase), while in the 2nd movie, Shuu was already in love to the lead girl.

2. Character development
Reon is a better "villain" than the bitch "Satsuki". Why? Because in here, we can see Reon's motivation of wanting to bring back Shuu cos he thinks that he's the best guy for the job. But upon realizing that Shuu is out of commission (cos he has other priority), he has no choice but to step up and bring his A game, which he has been preparing for ever since (as we can see he was already reading business presentations). The guy only needed a little push cos he is insecure about himself.. On the other hand, Satsuki is totally unrelatable, a one dimensional character who's only motivation is her obsession of Shuu. We also never saw any development on her character... she just pretty much disappeared towards the end??? A pretty boring villain for me.

Overall, I did like this better than the first. The new cast isn't really a major issue for me as the execution on the story as well as character development was done properly.

Lovely, beautiful, cute ,funny story . Though very short jealousy moment but movie is totally positive ,it is not right to share room before marriage and as a student but at the same point they knew their limits and they respect each other decision. Clean ending ,every part of movie is clean means perfectly completed ,it is not shown that they complete story in fast mode that they missed some elements...Friendship ,jealousy ,little funny movements ,love and (bonding between the school's students) are shown.
I like the movie ...Acting is good ,all the characters are good and sometime look cute ..

cheesy teen romance

I haven’t seen the 2014 L-DK, so my review is based on this movie only. It was a typical Japanese teen movie where two high schoolers Aoi Nishimori and Shusei Kugayama live together, since they are underage they do not reveal it to anyone at school. The problem strikes when they fall in love and ML's cousin appears.
The plot is really fast-paced, the story presented a background really quick with some flashbacks and runs onto the teens lives hiding their secrets. it is like a teen fantasy where the most popular and handsome guy falls for the average-looking girl. Living together with your crush and doing everything except sex (because you have just gained knowledge about it), is what a common girls dream of. But at the same time stopping others from pursuing their dream is quite selfish. You can separate from your parents and live but you cant stay distanced from your beloved, It was teenage first love hormones. That was way too childish.

I have always been curious that, Japanese teens stay alone without any guardian supervision is that really their culture. The girl didn’t have a dream and just focuses on taking care of her partner, that point actually irked me. Everyone should go for a good higher education, and if one doesn’t trust their partner then it's really a matter of concern. she must have seen her mother doing house chores and her parents living happily together. IMO if they didn't live together love wouldn't have happened. more than the love they were each other habits and the girl wanted to cling to her habit.

The acting of the main cast Sugino Yosuke, Kamishiraishi Mone, and Yokohama Ryuse was mediocre. The visuals though were nice.
The music was good. The song 'Happy End' shows the happiness of Aoi and the song 'Every time' shows me the emotions of Reon
I wouldn't rewatch this because it is too cheesy. And I had more than enough of these typical Japanese teen movies.

unhealthily rewatching it since 2019 - for Sugino & cute fluff moments

This film is simply my guilty pleasure - to watch Sugino & Ryusei over & over & internally scream at the heart-fluttering moments shown. Honestly if you compare with the other shows/movies I have rated 8 - this is definitely not in the same space, but given the unhealthy times I have rewatched this & it remains a comfort film, the rating technicalities can be overlooked.

The story is delightfully simple and cute, with the perfect amount of fanservice to keep you hooked. It has its ups and downs, but nothing too intense or shocking – just a smooth, enjoyable ride. The three main leads deliver stellar performances, beautifully supported by the rest of the cast. The film concludes on a high note, leaving you grinning and blushing like crazy – I've been doing just that from my first watch to the present!

Best Part: Sugino Yosuke - just cannot get enough of this man. I have been following his works since long, and while this is one of his early ones and not enough to showcase his talent, I highly recommend watching him in Barakamon, Love's In Sight. Am not sure, but I feel he is still not the most popular J-actors, but he truly deserves to be. In contrast, Yokohama Ryusei is a more popular face and while I have seen him here and there - Cursed in Love is one of his best works I feel.

I found it difficult to suspend disbelief enough to believe that her parents would let her stay by herself to go to school, with Kugayama Shusei living right next door. THEN, there wasn't any build up to their relationship, it was suddenly just there. The main couple was cute together, but I didn't feel any chemistry between them. Poor excuses for kisses, they just looked so fake and awkward. The yelling of the male actors was irritating, it just looks like overacting. Sexism is alive and well in Japanese dramas - the male rating the female on a scale of 1-100, talking to everyone about her looks and lack of boobs - not cool.

Yamazaki Kento as Kugayama Shusei was good. He's got that quiet, deep-thinking thing going on. He was the high point of this movie for me.

The BEST LDK version and cutest love story you'll see.

This is the sweetest young love story you'll see. I also watched so many of these Japanese movies and this is truly up there with the best ones out of them. There's absolutely nothing new with the script. We have seen it thousands times: insecure cute girl falls for " the bad boy " at her school, a love triangle ensue , he begins to fall in love with who she's as a person. This has been done million of times but what makes this movie stand out and so much loved and the BEST LDK version ( sorry Kento), it's the chemistry of Mone, Sugino and Ryusei. Especially the chemistry between Mone and Sugino and the fact that they're still amazing friends till this day ( they're currently doing a TBS program... that's literally almost 5 years after the drama ended), have supported each other projects throughout the years.. just warm my heart. Beautiful love story and well acted. Give it a try. I have been a big fan of these 3 since this movie and loved how each of them are so successful today.
