Story: 10/10 The story is one that will motivate you while tears stream down your eyes. It has themes of "High School" romance mixed in with following your dreams to the very end.
Cast/Acting 10/10 I couldn't ask for a better cast. They truly did a flawless job.
Music: 10/10 I still listen to the theme song by Yui (who also acted in this movie) two weeks after I watched the movie. The only "downside" about this movie is that you get addicted to the wonderful music by Yui.
Rewatch Value: 9/10 This is such a beautiful movie that I would definitely rewatch.
Overall 10/10 (i'd give it a 15/10 if I could!). Definitely watch this movie. You won't regret it.

This movie is beautifully sad. I don't have the capacity to explain the emotions that this movie provokes. It is a reminder that no matter how long we are here that we can leave something good behind and have an impact on the lives around us. These characters have a great capacity for love. I haven't ventured far from K-Pop, but I just added YUI to my playlist. Her voice is no joke!!! I suggest that even if you don't watch this movie that you look up the soundtrack. It is amazing. I will definitely watch this again. I suggest that everyone watch it once. It is lovely.

The movie with theme "a girl who secretly likes a boy" is not new anymore but the idea of this girl who has this condition that lead to this theme is something new. The style of the director is fresh and I do like his technique that indie-sh vibe I mean. He manage to capture the setting well, those shots on nights are brilliant. I also like those romantic elements he put here like when yui move the post early morning so he see kouji face better and how the setting becomes grayish when kaoru(night girl) met kouji(morning boy) for the first time. Its the first time I saw romantic scenes so artistic like that, and that makes this movie special to me. The casting is on the spot too they cast a fresh face like yui and that is the best decision they make.
The acting is not that great but atleast they are convincing and no overating and like I said its like an indie movie. The music, now aside from the directing this is the best thing in this movie not just YUI's song but also the background music they used.
Do you have a movie that affects you the most? Well this movie is like that to me, I wont write this review after 10 years If I don't LOL.

You may wonder why I gave it such a high rating?
It´s the first time I am absolutely sure about the reason for myself.
To simplify it I am stunned.
Stunned by the loving actors and the ending too....
I have watched the Drama before and just discovered it today after finding out about the Movie. I did give it a 7 though~
I was too sad at the end. Weirdly I am not too but with a kind of relieved feeling.
As the synopsis says already the story is about an girl who is ill. In short she can´t endure any sunlight. She is playing music every night alone ont he streets till she meets HIM.
Oh and already in advance I apologize for my long review >< I don´t know who to shorten all this here....
Story: Sure everyone may think it´s a sad story. But it´s worth it time. It´s the first time I am thinking like that after a review.
Usually I am just getting upset if the ending may have been unsatisfying. Here I just cried for me alone till the end.
You always wonder and know what happens till the end too. A simple story made into a great love story!
Acting/Cast: From the beginning I loved the girl. Usually the main-girl is always the most important person for me in a Drama/Movie. If I don´t like her...then it get´s hard to like/love the Drama/Movie in itself already.
This time the actress got my heart in ONE instance. REally natural acting. I loved watching her. Especially singing *smiles*
She has a beautiful voice~
As to the main-male-lead he was great too...I am not sure what to say about him but in my opinion he was fitting her personality perfectly^^

As for the girl´s parent´s....They were like parents I could imagine in real life perfectly. You could see their love coming towards the girl~ Nothing more to say here. You will see it if you may want to :)
Music: As I stated before I loved that girl´s voice. It was just plain beautiful and always in the perfect moments. Like a pure voice. Yes you could sayy it like that. Especially ONE song is still stuck in my head right now. What I really liked too,is that the actress sang it for herself!!!!And when she has ended there are scenes you are just dreaming...It´s weird but everything is silent and you can see how that works on you even more.
Rewatch Value: Sure I am not sure weather to ever watch it agaín but I can say it´s my wish to do it. You can learn a lot by this movie here. If I ever feel the modd to watch it again I will. I am sure I will be as touched as right now. YES I will~
-AND YOU TOO!!!!
That´s all to say to it ....If you want to ask anything further just feel free to ask me (:

The acting is very good. Despite that, I don't think anyone stood out in acting, though. They are up to standard, but not to the point that they'll be immediately added as one of your fave actors. That's my opinion only, though. Anyway, it's good to know that Yui, one of my favorite Japanese singers, could act well.
If there's one thing that I would miss after watching this movie, it's the music. I really loved the music in this movie. Add the fact that I loved the meaning of the songs played.
This is definitely one of those movies that I'd love to re-watch.
This is a very good movie. I really think this is worthy to be added in the list of those movies you want to have a marathon with.

If you ever watched Calling You, Sky of Love, I Gave My First Love To You, etc. ... all Japanese teen romance movies with a life-death theme going ... if you liked those, then this is a movie you would probably like too. Those, for me, were all tear jerkers (I'm an extreme softy). This one, I would say isn't to that level of tear-jerking sadness. It tells a wonderful and romantic story, but it doesn't tug at you so much that you would get the feels. You would still feel sad, maybe on the verge of tears if you are an extreme extreme softy (but I'm already pretty extreme and I didn't really get the feels very badly like in the movies I mentioned before) but it just doesn't make you cry. It isn't there yet. Acting ... I don't have any complaints or compliments. The acting is basically on par with most any other JP teen romance movies. If anything, there are many other teen romance movies that are unexpectedly great in terms of acting. This one was just in the average level. I would say what made me gave it such a high rating was the story and the motivating and inspiring motifs behind it.
Music ... this whole movie is about the female lead's love for music and how she captivates others and expresses herself with it. After watching this movie, I saw that recently there was an American remake of it and I really agree with something that was said in the American trailer of that version of Midnight Sun. Kaoru is like the once younger version of Taylor Swift, the more innocent version. Nonetheless, the music/songs in this movie were good. I loved it. Very motivating. Worked with the story really well.
COMING UP ...
(somewhat of some spoilers but not in detail, just the frame of it, so don't be scared to read these last few thoughts, but just in case, you've been warned.)

The ending was very soft and nice. It sort of rounded the story so much so...like it didn't want you to take pity on the characters. You will probably get what I mean when you watch it. Everything ended very "peacefully". I don't know if that is the right word to explain it.
My only complaint is the transition near the ending. It was horrible and it could've been better, in my opinion. When you see it you may have a small OS, thinking...wtf that was fast. When you watch it, you will probably catch the moment that I'm talking about. In their defense ... and I'm just thinking the most plausible random reason here ... they may have had to cut out some stuff because of timing ... maybe. It was just weird to me how they transitioned it. Totally a rushed moment. It just didn't feel right.
Overall, I would definitely re-watch it. And, I'd totally recommend it, if you are a JP romance junky like me.
