Boring plot with dull characters...

I really wanted to love this drama because I like the main actor and actress but it was a bit of a disappointment. The drama started off great and got me hooked immediately, with the two leads meeting because of a case. They begin to have feelings for each other and it’s pretty cute. However, problems arise because there’s an age gap (older ML) and once this happens, the story gets really boring. I actually dropped it halfway through (but picked it up again just to see the ending) because of the following:

Xiao Lu (FL) is maybe mid twenties, so she’s still childish and immature, only knowing to cry and argue with people when they don’t support her. It was cute the first few times but then got really annoying because it happened every time and quite frequently. To make things worse, her story is so bland — she’s basically a recent graduate who’s trying to be a successful scriptwriter, there’s hardly anything to it.

On the other hand, you have the mature “Uncle” ML who is a policeman. You see him and his team solving a case in the very beginning to show him and Xiao Lu meeting but after that you hardly see him in action, he's usually with the team in the office just talking about stuff they need to do but is irrelevant to any case. I get that police aren't always just out in action and there's a lot of things they need to do in the office, but he seemed way too free for a police officer. When he and Xiao Lu were dating, if she asked him to do something or go somewhere, he’d be there or he’d go check up on her as if he had so much free time. Also, he’s a great cook so many times he’s shown cooking meals for her or they’re eating his home cooked breakfast/dinner; he might as well have been a chef. It’s just unrealistic and makes the drama even more drab.

The second leads have more of a story but I just wasn’t into them. I don’t know if it’s a lack of chemistry or if it’s just because I really disliked the second FL (Xiao Lu’s best friend) but I typically skipped her scenes. She’s more mature than Xiao Lu but she’s a bit arrogant and just looks fake. Basically her personality was whatever imo.

It’s not until the last 10-ish episodes that there’s finally something interesting and unexpected going on, and "Uncle" is finally back in action solving a case with his team. If it weren’t for Guo Xiao Dong and Wu Jin Yan (main actor/actress), I probably wouldn’t be able to pick this drama back up and finish it. Overall, I gave it a 7/10, which might sound high for such a lacking plot, but the last few episodes got me hooked again and reminded me why I wanted to watch this drama in the first place. If the ending wasn't as intriguing, I'd probably rate a 6/10 if I'm being generous.

*TL;DR: The scriptwriters need to up their game big time, unfortunate waste of great actors. Just watch the beginning (~10-15 eps) and end (~10 eps) for the ML/FL's sweet scenes and the crime solving.

hmm, i have been watching drama for a few years now and by reading the synopsis only, i had high expectations and have been looking forward to watch this. (the synopsis is correct for this drama)

i watched finish this in 3 days, and i don't think i would re-watch it. i like crimes x romance dramas but i think the FL was a little too immature in this show, which i felt really annoyed at times yet, its also her immatureness that sort of "brought" them together. the ML is definitely more mature but he doesn't understand the FL at times, which was slightly annoying, despite the age gap, they had no problems in communication and it wasn't an obstacle for them to not be together.

i think theres a good balance between the polices solving cases and the leads romance (and the second leads). no third party involving their (main leads) romances, which was great, haha.

if you're looking for a slightly heavier on the crime drama side, then i think this is not for you because theres not many cases, prolly about 5-7? not really sure, but if you want crimes x romance dramas, then i feel you can give this a try.

i hope this review helped you. ps: this is my first time writing a review, so apologies if i didn't do a good job. enjoy your dramas :D

Spunky young lady fell for an older police officer

The story is good. Jinyan is the prettiest I have ever seen based on all the shows I've seen her in especially when her makeup is lightly done.

She is a young screenwriter who never had a relationship , she had a best friend that appeared to be gay, she met the strict cop who was dumped by his ex girlfriend . Her life was threatened when she kept a footage of the car video she was driving that is owned by her female boss. She was then monitored and protected by the cops including the main lead. They begun a relationship later on. The story is paced well, although I skipped the second couple's romance on my 2nd time watching. I like the ending, There's a kiss here, but I wish that they at least colored the main leads lips, he looked too pale and untidy. I still liked the drama though

Second time around enjoyment

I actually watched this three years ago and didn’t have too big an impression, though I can’t pinpoint why exactly. Rewatching it though, I can now offer an overview as sadly, maybe not too many people gave it a chance.

Age gap dramas are risky as it’s a good chance of hit or miss. In my opinion on this one, it’s a hit. WU Jin Yan, as Bai Xiao Lu, I feel acted her role exactly as scripted. She’s too curious which gets her in path of ML’s cases, but causes him heart stopping concern of course. She cares so much for him and the endangerment of his job she wants to help and even protect him, which of course causes opposite results. She’s innocent, annoying, clutzy, ditzy yet, adorably cute that Zhou Yuan, played by Guo Xiao Dong, can’t help but fall for. Chemistry was enough to make their relationship believable, which of course was the cherry on top of this undercover cop genre. Great ending.

Whatever else people may of complained about in the police stints of it, I didn’t see it. I mean there are plot holes and there are more plot holes in just about every single drama. This wasn’t perfect, some situations maybe your brain couldn’t get around. Nothing that bad you can easily improvise. OST was fine. My second rewatch. Third might be a charm but too much to see so we’ll see. Hehe. Give it a try.

Bad script , terrible role for Wu Jinyan. She is better than this

I am at episode 22 and not certain of finishing this drama. How Wu Jinyan could have agreed to this drama is beyond me. She was perfection in Yanxi Palace and Legend of Hao Ian. She plays an absolute voice screeching 2 year old airhead that is suppose to be a script writer. She falls in love with yet again another older man (good looking yes, and good actor) who is at least 15 years older than her. What ? is she typecast for all the older actors!? They are supposed to be the stars of the drama.....I think, but there's so many other story lines and another couple.....its tiring.
Who ever Wu's talent agent or manager is, should be docked salary or fired. This whole drama truly wasted a seriously talented young woman and her lead actor. You should pay people to watch this terrible drama.
Lastly, I don't care what country a woman is from, no woman is as dense as the character Wu portrays.

Garbage produced of good resources

FL and ML are both good actors (especially Wu Jin Yan) and perform their roles excellently.
The basic idea (screenwriter and police) is an interesting setup, but it is the only positive thing in the entire script.

ML's behavior towards FL is totally worthless: bullying, dominating, subjugating and derogatory speech ( C-dramas male archetype )
FL, on the other hand, is the female archetype of C-dramas: stupid, helpless and lovesick.

The age difference between the characters is actually about 20 years, but visually it's about 30, so the so-called "romance" mostly evokes pity for FL.

The writers could finally ditch such silly characters and produce something worth watching. Currently, more than 90% of C-dramas are patriarchal garbage.
