This drama is basically about the sins of the father, and the sins of long ago, coming back to bite you in the behind. You sow the seeds of your own destruction, giving power to those you think powerless. But it also is about the sacrifices we make when we choose power over love, revenge over happiness.
This is also has the best butt-kicking grandmother character ever!
My only criticism is that they play the title song, "Gloria," way too much.

Everything a melodrama should be ... and more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was initially put off by the 50 episodes, because I had just watched another long drama, but I really loved Bae Doona in Sense8, so I went ahead, anyway.Honestly, I couldn't stop watching, and ended up binge watching 50 episodes in less than a week! The time just flew by. By episode 35 I was glad there were 15 more to go ... and never got fed up with it.
The main characters are so well written, and so well acted, that I really felt I was in the room, living through the story. The drama has meaningful character growth, couples fighting against impossible odds, and over coming serious trauma and heartache.
I loved the 'vibe' at the rooming house, especially the old grandma, who held it all together, and really created a lovely family home life for her downtrodden tenants.
The night club was also a fun place to be, although it never seemed to be full, and was really made to feel like a third rate night club, as it was called. But somehow, you still wanted to be there. Here, I especially loved Kang Suk's mother, and respected the club owner.
It's an older show, but I feel very much that I would have missed out if I'd written it off for that reason - it turned out to be one of my favorite dramas ever watched ... in any language! Highly recommended!!

When I started watching I was so happy to find an interesting and captivating drama.
It started out very well, and keeps you interested and wanting more.
Then half way through......kept going downhill to the point I started skipping episodes and putting one finger on the ff button.
The story which started out so interesting, developed into a predictable and boring mess.
Finally I completed it although nothing was novel and surprising...just knew how it would end.
The cast is quite good, although there seemed no chemistry between the couples...maybe the second couple was better than the main...so sad.
Anyway..if you watch this enjoy the first half, then skip skip skip to the end..you wont miss much.

Great first half, abhorrent second half!
First half (1-28): Great Glorious Golden Gloria! Lively characters that flow and bounce off each others very nicely. Doesn't look or feel like other generic long running format dramas. Jazzy with a style and a spoken personality. The first half was destined for greatness. No triangle/square? I was jazzing! Amazing performance by Bae Doo Na, I've seen most of her movies but this is the first time seeing her in a drama. I couldn't get the song out my head!Second half (29-50): sucked ass royally!! The biggest flippity flop out there. They sucked the life out of the drama and killed any potentials. No more music, characters got dull and one dimensional, turned to a tasteless washed up melodrama. Bae Doo Na became a one-facial expression actress whispering into the mic barely audible, any personality she had before is now gone. The events such as the retaliation and both couples' relationships issues kept going in a repeating cycle until the last episode. There was some serious insane stretch for the last 10 episodes, almost zero content. I refuse to believe it's the same writer.
Lee Jong Won, a despicable looking actor playing a despicable character in a despicable role. It's even the same case with his other roles, playing as the despicable man. Hard to stomach his presence and this drama is no exception.
