Both are narrated from the third-person observers and the 'main' actions (Kirishima's struggle in Kirishima Bukatsu and baseball game in Alps Stand) aren't shown to the audience.
Youth movies set in high school. In both stories, there's a character who was frequently mentioned but never shown, making them significant for the existing characters.
Very different films at first glance, though one reminds me of the other. Both of them are not mainstream, blue spring being very violent and kirishima messing with the story line a bit. What they have in common is the portrayal of young people being locked up in a neat and little world called high school and looking to the outside world, thinking, what the heck am I gonna do. What is it that I want to do. And does it even matter.

Both shows share similar storytelling style - one event in a school seen from mostly standalone perspectives, which is unsurprising since their original materials (light novels) were written by the same person. "Sayonara Girls" takes more straightforward and digestible approach than Kirishima though.
