Funny, mostly lighthearted

The story and actions of the characters were mostly comedic and ridiculous. I kept watching in x2 speed because it was funny and cute.
Later, it was annoyingly dragged out with the same conflicts over and over. It was mostly lighthearted with a bit of drama, especially towards the end and a bit of an emotional ending.

Zhao Lu Si's Comedic Timing & Presence Made This So Much Fun To Watch

Both Zhao Lu Si & Ding Yu Xi's character looked so young. I never thought that these two would make good couple, but it was fun watching them. The chemistry while not explosive was subtle and heartwarming.

Ding Yu Xi's Han Shuo was such a green flag in the relationship (most of the relationship). In the beginning he wanted to kill the the third princess. And he was back to being his murderous self for a while because he thought the third princess betrayed him. But apart from that silly tidbit, he was kinda adorable.

They rushed the ending thought. They could have explored so much in the ending. What's more, the ending shed light on a major plot hole. When FL was transported into her story, she was quite aware that she wasn't part of it. However, ML was also transported into the story but he wasn't actually aware but went about the story as a character that FL could manipulate. When they both returned to the real word, claiming it was a dream, the ML didn't appear all that bothered but when the Fl caught on to him pretending he just gave in? That was too short of a time frame for all of this to be pulled of smoothly.

Ridiculous and hilarious

I tried this watching once and couldn't get through the first episode as I don't like for Zhao Lusi character dresses up especially considering it was in old day. But I gave it second chance as a fan to watch her early drama. The whole acts of contradictions in the femal role changing from doing all she can to survive to risking everything, inconsistency of knowing whats goin to happen in the plot.. if it's not for knowing the story is just supposed to be stupid funny watch, its definitely unbearable to watch. Only for Zhao Lusi I brazed through it and enjoyed the stupidity after few episodes.. but once it brought in some serious plot when HanShuo rescured by Chuchu and plotted to conquer Huayan city it became boring. Good thing they are not pushing it to more than 24 episodes.

If you enjoy this drama for the romcom, I recommend watching A female student arrives at,the imperial college.

All time favorite Chinese romcom

This is probably one of the best romantic comedies I've ever watched. I've watched a lot of cdramas in the last two years, and this is the only one I would consider an outstanding romantic comedy. The plot and the characters were amazing. While the trope of the show wasn't unique, this one was executed extremely well. The pacing of the whole show was great and actors did an amazing job portraying their characters. The comedic timing and writing in this show was so well done, it's set the bar high for all other cdramas. The chemistry between the leads was so good, and something I rarely get from cdramas. I only wish there was a little more to the ending, like even a special episode or something, but I also understand less is more sometimes. This is the only cdrama I've rewatched from start to finish several times.

Fun, silly, well-acted... great show!

What a fun time! Main characters were great- FL was sweet, hardworking, and silly; ML was adorably love-struck and yet quite sly, which made for an intriguing combination. Reminded me a bit of Ashes of Love in the final arc, actually. Especially so when the ML gets moody- just like the supposed heartlessness of Xu Feng. Only critique was the misogyny. For a show marketing itself as feminist, there was an awful lot of 'the poor men' in the women-controlled city and literally nothing about the poor treatment of females in our world (FL said it goes back and forth...) or the male-controlled city (except for like 10 minutes in the last few episode, but even those examples were accompanied by sympathy for the poor men in the female-led city, lol). Despite this issue, the acting and script of the leads were phenomenal. ML in particular was so great in his role- both in terms of romance and in terms of character development. Highly recommend.

I love it

I really like this drama.
It is also why i fell in love with the actress zhao lusi. She has a lot of potential even tho she is very young. She is funny bubbly and creates good chemistry with the ML. She is also very pretty and her acting is convincing.
Also, ML and the FL look so good together, the ML is so sweet fòwards the FL always thinks about the consequences of his actions and he always take into consderation how she would feel after doing it.
I have rewatched this drama countless of times because i find the FL very funny and sweet.
The OST also is a plus.

Unique, fresh story that will keep you entertained

The Romance of Tiger and Rose is a drama about Chen Qianqian, an author who gets sucked into her own script and becomes a character that was supposed to be killed in the first few episodes. She is forced to change the story with her actions. Chen Qianqian navigates through the script, using her knowledge of it to her advantage. The Romance of Tiger and Rose has become one of my favorite dramas because it is a refreshing take on gender roles, is witty and doesn't insult the intelligence of the viewer, and tells a very beautiful love story.
The story was very well written. Not only was it comical, but it was also witty, dark, well-paced, and surprising. It was easy for me to want to watch the next episode, which is hard for some dramas to do. As with every drama, there were moments that felt unnecessary, but there was nothing that felt severely out of place or detracted from the flow of the story. I loved how they were able to bring serious issues to light, such as gender inequality, without making it feel like they were lecturing the viewer. All of the characters were well written and convincing, and while they had moments that were over-the-top, it was never done in a way that made you want to throw your screen as far as possible. Even though I personally loved many of the secondary characters, especially Su Mu and Yuanyuan, and wish they had more scenes, I can see how that might have affected the story negatively. I am glad that the writers were able to find a balance between giving the secondary characters way too much screen time (sadly I've watched many dramas that were guilty of this) and way too little. Overall, the plot was very well-paced and full of action. There were no boring filler scenes and I never felt the need to skip through.
I was pleasantly surprised by the acting abilities of Ding Yuxi and Zhao Lusi. To be honest, I went in hearing so many negative things about Lusi that I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I found her to play her part very naturally, as if she were made for the role of Chen Qianqian. Ding Yuxi was also a very expressive actor. The role of Han Shuo was probably one of the hardest roles in the story, seeing as he had so many different motives, but Yuxi pulled it off flawlessly. Even the side characters were entertaining in their own right, especially the servants, who often stole the spotlight with their hilarious remarks and silly expressions.
Overall, this was an amazing drama that I highly recommend. It is the type of drama that will stay on a viewer's mind for days after it is finished. Not only is it wildly entertaining, but it is also intelligent and has an interesting message.

Great story, funny, happy ending

I love, love this drama! I enjoyed the storyline and the cast. First, I wasn't sure about the leading man but he grew on me. I am a fan of ZLS since Oh! My Emperor which is actually why I watched this drama. So happy I did.

Every episode was enjoyable. The way the main characters interact with each other was great and their interactions with their manservants were great, too! Boy, those two manservants were funny!

Rewatch value is a 10. In fact, I've started to rewatch it when I was searching for another drama and the video of the first episode was on the screen. I highly recommend it. If you love period/costume rom-com with a happy ending, this one's for you!

lighthearted and funny masterpiece of chinese romcom

The drama is a parody on all these serious heart-wrenching historical dramas, that include conspiracies, poisoning, betrayal and what not. So if one is used to the typical historical drama, this one will be very comical, but even without any referances the drama is funny.
The female lead - a sreenwriter - somehow ends up in her own script (a reference to all the recent time travel historical dramas, yet different, because her world is fictional and only loosly based on ancient china) and tries to "wake up" again. As the story unfolds she starts to like her own characters and develops feelings for the main lead. So she tries to change the cruel fate she has written for him by manipulating her "characters", but, how could it be any different, nothing goes as planned and chaos ensues...
The story was so well made and original in imitating all the clichés it was really pleasant and funny to watch. The plot was never boring and all the hilarious misunderstandings, that followed the main lead's quite unorthodox way to change the story, were cleared after two episodes at the latest. So a strong point of this drama is the absence of dragging misunderstandings or long seperated lovers!!
The actors were great and even side characters seemed important. There were so many of them it would be too much to mention them all, but besides the very well portaied servants my favourite were the parents of the male lead. Even though they only appeared in the last four episodes they were the cherry on the top of a great casted drama.
The fact, that most of the story happens in the city of women or 女国, as described in one the four great literary chinese works (the shuihuzhuan水浒传), just adds up. Even more because the main lead comes from the usual patriarchal neighbooring country and has to get used to the reverse circumstances in the city of women and in the last episodes the main couple pays a visit to the main leads parents and the female lead has to adapt.
Even though the drama is not very serious or long it is really worth the while and I can strongly recommend it :)

This was a super cute drama with a fun story and a great ending!
The beginning of this drama is super silly and gets a little more serious as it goes on. I absolutely loved the ending! It was a lovely way to wrap up the 24 episodes.
I will say I did skip through a bit throughout the show though. There was quite a bit of skip-able content but I still thoroughly enjoyed The Romance of Tiger and Rose. Overall I think the drama was really well done and has a great cast.
If you’re looking to smile and laugh, I recommend this romcom!

I absolutely love love love the chemistry between the leads & also their sidekicks Zi Rui & Bai Ji. For a low budget production, this drama was saved by the leads chemistry & the unique storyline which revolves around a matriach society. There were a lot of funny burst out loud laughing moments.: Who would have thought an ancient valuable treasure like Dragon bone would actually smell so pungent & bad, how Qian Qian plan to set up chu chu & han shuo always failed, bai ji arriving at the wrong moments all the time n much much more funny scenes. Another gem i found from this drama was the discovery of Ryan Ding, such a talented actor at a young age, he can switched to so many different expressions & he is able to exude a charismatic aura even though he does not have a conventional handsome face. I fell for his loving gaze towards her female lead (that is his trademark i guess). The only set back was the ending seems rushed and lacked the punch which was a little bit anticlimatic in my opinion. I wish they would showed more scenes involving Han Shuo city as i find han shuo mom to be an interesting character. My final verdict please watch it for a light funny rom com

(MAJOR spoilers) {Seriously, DO NOT read this [if you haven't watched it]. You will hate yourself}

So I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on the video and began watching. I thought it was just another Chinese costume drama but boy was I WRONG (fyi, this is my first review ever!). The very beginning of the first episode was just meh and then Mr. Han came into the picture flying up and down trying to explain to Xiaoqian that her script wasn't that worthy. And then she went home and rewrote it and fell asleep waking up in Chen Qianqian's body. It wasn't to spectacular at the start but it gradually became better and better (and of course it has it's flaws but we're not talking about those). This drama decided to nestle itself amongst my top 5 Chinese dramas and I'm not mad. I might actually re-watch this again. But enough about that. What REALLY snatched my heart and really got me was the ending. The ending of that drama will forever be remembered, especially since I cried happy tears. If there isn't a second season I might actually die. My favorite ending out of all the dramas I've seen, the BEST ending I've ever seen. Han Shuo "coming back" (they just dreamed the same dream) with Xiaoqian and them being in love and Xiaoqian and Han Shuo not having to hurt because the other is gone, that's the best part (the fact that they still have each other I mean). The cast was amazing and they all played their characters beautifully (my favorites were the people who played Zirui, Su Mu, and Yuanyuan). Anyways, if you did actually click on this review and read it then you really should watch it. Don't just go along with what other people say and watch it yourself then come and judge it. This is definitely the best Chinese drama I've seen all year though.
