The bell of mourning rings in memory of the beautiful maiden who was fleetingly lost. A film co-produced by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office, the Manchurian Film Association, and Shochiku. When Taiwan (Republic of China) was still under the control of the Japanese military, there was a beautiful daughter of the Takasago tribe living in the mountainous region. Her name was Sayon. The young people in the village were focused on how they could win Sayon's heart. Young people who selfishly confess their love. But for some reason, Sayon just shook her head. She had a young man named Saburo with whom she pledged her future. Saburo was selected as an excellent student from his village to study in Japan. The day came when Saburo returned to the village as a fine young man. However, just as Sayon reached the peak of her happiness, tragedy awaited her...
