A simple but touching story
The drama can be a little cliche but the story is very sweet. A very simple storyline, quite predictable but wasn't boring at all. I think the cinematography and screenplay was done very well, which was probabaly how this simple story was still very entertaining. It's a perfect definition of rom-com and I loved every couple on there they were all really cute! I loved how everyone there got their own happy ending with their own loved one. The acting too was really really good. I personally loved the cast, they had great chemistry and everything felt so easy going and time flew by before I knew it. Loved seeing them grow together. The music was not my fav but pretty touching. I probably wouldn't re-watch this but it is definitely worth watching once. Overal very easy-going, fun and touching drama. ?⛸ ???➡️??Was this review helpful to you?

Cheesy romance
Story contains almost every cheesy romantic trope there is and a lot is predictable. It was interesting in the first half and then became a bit boring. Don't even remember laughing at any stage even with genre including comedy. This is for someone that don't mind cheesy romance around every corner. There's isn't really much to this series other than romance, the rest is just things to fill the episodes and my rating therefore only 7 overall.
There's also no real chemistry between any of the couples. Some of the characters that were supposed to be seniors and older family acted childish and assume this was how the characters were written. Actors did ok but nobody really stood out for me personally. Acting therefore 7.5
Its a easy watch and you don't really need to concentrate too much.
Production and Visual FX : average with mainly campus setting. 7 rating
OST wasn't memorable at all. 7 rating
Rewatch value: very low

Heart Fluttering Cliche
Let me start by saying that this is the first Chinese drama out of so many where the cross-dressing seems quite reasonable and for once the girl looked weird when she dressed like one. Every episode for me was a cliff hanger and although the pace of the story was extremely slow, I did not feel bored at all.I started watching this show without any sort of expectations and god I was so not disappointed. I do agree that there is little to no character development out there plus the story's out of the world sort of thing but that's the very reason I like it cause although we know that fairy tales never come true we still do watch them. This drama definitely had its flaws but the actors did justice to it. The romance in it was slow burned and the story had lots of ups and downs but they were again not properly portrayed. In conclusion, I believe that this drama was meant to be the fluffy type without so many emotional roller coaster and they managed to convey the messages that they wanted to. Plus, I fell in love with the OSTs.
It's just about people falling in love and chasing their dreams and the storyline was just so so but I will definitely say that my heartbeat went faster every time I watched this and I just couldn't stop smiling even when there were emotional scenes(which is definitely not a good thing).
And I must mention that I fell in love with Darren Chen and Sabrina Chen after watching this. All this drama has to offer is the great chemistry between those two leads, the amazing friendship and the OST, a special mention for that. XD

One of my favourite University C drama
Overall I enjoyed the story plot. Although the story lines sound unreal and abit exaggerating but it surprised me with the amazing acting and how the characters made me laughed out loud. I also liked the little story of each character and how they worked hard to fulfill their dream and passion for ice hockey. This is definitely one of my favourite C drama involving university, sports and sweet romance.
This drama managed to balance well between the love stories, friendship, competition,. At least I did not see part of the story that makes me fustrated or angry.
Please watch if you like sweet romance, comedy, university or sports related drama.

Stepping on banana peels all year round!
I'm sure by now everyone heard about this drama being a huge clichefest. That is naturally true. Sang Tian just kept falling into Wen Bing's arms. That "oh no I fell onto your lips" thing happened FOUR times in this drama and there were uncountable fall related hugs and whatnot throughout the entire show. Of course there were other miscellaneous cliche/corny scenes too, but somehow the second hand embarrassment levels were kept below my nerve threshold.Despite the ridiculous premise and everything else the writers did a competent job at keeping my interest & they made the cliches bearable, the drama had soul, even at the story level. I'm no genderbender expert, but to me it feels like this is a new take in the genre. In typical genderbenders the girl keeps changing the disguise all the time & the ML gets to interact with the girl as if she were two different persons. In MUG however she is in her boy getup 95% of the time. The creators made her still look girlish intentionally. Obviously it's not realistic that no would realize she is not a boy with all that lipstick & visible breasts. However against all odds it just works. The drama never taking itself seriously certainly helps to keep the magic alive and finally when we reach the end it feels really gratifying to see her finally posing as a girl. (yep the ending is pretty great)
It's really nice that there is no real love triangle and even the OTP's only obstacle is dealt with fairly quickly and painlessly.
The casting choices were great, the leads had great chemistry & the supporting actors were on point as well.
My biggest gripe with the drama is the story flow. It just took way too long for the plot to progress. The second half of the drama is way better than the first half. Episodes 5 to 15 don't contribute much in advancing the story. I'm not saying those episodes are not entertaining, however there is certainly quite a bit of repetitive plot and I felt they were just draggy.
All the second couples were great, but unfortunately they had very little screen time.
I don't know much about hockey, but the matches & practice sessions seemed interesting enough. There are obvious problems that even I noticed, but I felt that those did not detract much from my enjoyment. (Sang Tian barely has arms, but she hits like supergirl; camera tricks to hide the fact that most actors are no skating experts etc)
The cinematography was just incredibly beautiful. In cdramas background obliteration is a recurring problem, but in MUG the beautiful sets were properly shown to us in all their splendor before going for that creamy close up shot and even those were tastefully executed. I've seen quite a few cdramas, but I think this one is the prettiest one yet.
And finally the issue of Elvis Li aka Huang Hao Ran is a bit baffling. I have not double checked this, but to me it seems he was only inserted into the drama at the halfway point in a really arbitrarily manner. He came out of nowhere, but suddenly he had a rather important role, he did overact as well. I don't know why they did this, but my theory is that perhaps My Unicorn Girl 2 is already in the pipeline & Elvis Li will be a significant character in that drama. (like what they did with Wu Bai in GGS1)
TLDR: The show may be a bit draggy early on, but overall it was very entertaining & there is zero angst, so 8/10.

Slow Burn with Little Pay Off
How we got 5 stars:-nothing was wrong with acting, well casted
-Music was really nice, added them to my playlist (find on youtube)
-like crossdressing trope personally
How we did not get the rest of the stars:
Slow burn romance:
they get together in the last 2 episodes. The rest is just them flirting, which really isn't that satisfying. For me, a good ending should have a marriage or a proposal of marriage.
Actually the ~parents~ (trying not to spoil) tried separating them and it was really really painful. I actually took a break for a month and then skipped the painful part to the confession. It dragged so long.
Also, there was a lot of parts that just seemed plain dumb.
In general, I like Chen Yao. She was really good in Maiden Holmes. Hope to see more of her. Those stars are partly for her. I actually didn't like the ml that much. He was a little annoying at times.
Very much would not watch again because it would be far to painful. I'm not a masochist.
If you like slow burn with little pay off, here you go!

Cliché, friendship, hockey
First, I just have to say how happy I was to know that Darren Chen was casted as the male lead! He fit perfectly his role and I am entirely happy with his performance!Cliché, friendship, hockey — Usually the type of drama I prefer.
Everything about this drama is cliché. The male lead having a disease that only the female lead can cure. The female lead having lost a parent. The two best friends having a crush on the female lead, the female lead disguising as a guy… and so on! I could keep going for a whole paragraph about the clichés. But that’s actually how I like them.
Friendship, my absolute favourite theme of a drama. Seeing a group of friends sharing something they love, being there for each other, and getting to know a little about all of them. That is exactly what I like!
Hockey, well, this is no surprise coming from a Canadian! I looove hockey and I always enjoy dramas with hockey players.
But, I have to admit that I have some dislikes unfortunately. There was some times we could see that the female lead actually can’t skate, or that it was snowing one minute, than the next it stopped and magically there wasn’t any snow in the next scene.
There was some things that made me detach from the drama and that is not something I like.
So, yes, I liked the drama and I loved the ost! I loved to see the friendship between the characters and their love from with their significant others. But, some things that happened that didn’t add up unfortunately made this drama go down by a lot since this is something really important to me when I watch dramas; to not realize this is actually a drama.

Fluffy romance drama, well-paced, not steamy
I like steamy dramas, but this one wasn't as steamy as I would like which is a shame because the main male lead is so handsome! Is it just me or C-dramas tend to be quite light (in terms of romance)?Other than that, the drama was easy to watch, editing was very cute and overall felt like a fluffy, light-hearted romance drama which had its humorous moments.
My ideal romance drama would contain some highs and lows, with steamy buildups, but this felt really *PG* - if that's your style, go for it :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Story: Premise is interesting, as with every sports-related show, there are good tension points and dynamics with the team that would carry the drama. This one is the same! Overall, the show was easy to watch, didn't feel too dragged out and was simple enough to understand. I also liked that the director included some plot lines about the side characters. Also, the plot holes (as with all genderbend dramas for me tbh) felt too unrealistic for me to take seriously
Acting/Cast: I liked the male lead () and I loved the rest of the cast; they were relatable, funny, and I could believe their characters. The female side characters are also super pretty?!
Music: Fit well, but not the kind I would add to Spotify
Rewatch value: Likely not to rewatch this because I prefer to rewatch dramas with more dramatic highs and lows.
Steaminess/Kiss scenes: would give a 5/10- could be better; some scenes had so much potential but ended up leaving me thirsty :(
Overall: Not the worst but definitely not the best! You may like it more than I do, I think it's a decidedly average drama and I think I wouldn't have minded if I never watched it or not.

Light and Sweet
I liked this drama very much. I usually get bored when the confession takes forever to happen but i didnt mind in this drama because there are many scenes with the main couple and we witnessed them bonding. There is no major misunderstanding which i also liked very much. I also enjoyed how darren chen protrayed his role and wasnt afraid to smile even when acting angry. I would like the FL to be a bit of a "fight back" character mainly to not be pushed around that easily by ML's mother but i guess it was needed for the plot. The drama also had many funny scenes. Overall its a light and sweet drama. I recommend it 100%. The music fits the drama well. Was this review helpful to you?
Sweet and fluffy with a suspension of belief
This drama was a nice, sweet, and fluffy drama! But of course, this definitely needed to be watched with a suspension of belief/go with the flow type of vibe. I feel like throughout the drama there were times that I was thinking that things didn't really make sense. So, as long as you can sit back, relax, and watch the sweetness unfold, this drama would be great to watch. Definitely a light-hearted youth drama full of clichés. I also wish they didn't take so long to get together and I wish we had more sweet moments with the two of them finally being honest with each other. But overall, it was still an enjoyable watch. Was this review helpful to you?
Disappointed
I had high expectations for this drama based on the reviews and high ratings. Unfortunately it didn’t meet those, perhaps unrealistic, expectations. I thought the plot would have been much better with some adjustments to the timing of things and if they had done the latter half a lot differently. This drama could have been significantly shorter and told the same story. It bothers me in most of these cross-dressing/disguise dramas that the guy that knows the other person is actually a female, but doesn’t tell them that they know the truth when they have developed feelings for said person. Just tell the truth and that way both of you can be yourselves and develop a relationship nicely instead of the guy playing along with the secret, the girl tells the truth, and then they’re like “I already figured out you were a girl” leading to a very stereotypical scene of the girl acting shocked that they knew and when did they find out. It would lead to much better chemistry between the leads as well, which I felt was somewhat lacking.
The acting I felt overall was rather mediocre. A lot of it was meant to be over the top, which I can appreciate in many cases, but in this case everything just seemed too overdone or silly. The accidental kiss scenes -I’m looking right at you. The male lead was definitely a stronger actor than the female lead, and he being eye candy was the best part about this drama.
I liked the side characters in this drama and I felt a lot of them were developed nicely, and it seemed like their stories would make a better plot than the main one.
Will I watch this again or recommend it to my friends? No, because I feel there are better dramas with disguised female leads to enjoy such as You’re Beautiful or Sungkyunkwan scandal. I’d rewatch those any day over this.
