The lives of a couple consisting of a Japanese woman and a Chinese man are upturned by war. During the war, Sachiko marries a Chinese medical student, Gan Shosho, who is studying in Japan. When they go to Nanjing as a couple, Shosho works with Nanjing's new provisional government in striving for peace, but after the war is targeted by the Chongqing government.
