Rosa Rossini (1959)

From childhood, Rosa had dreamed to be a ballet dancer. Donya Isabel and Don Enrico promise their daughter that she would be sent to the best ballet school in Europe. But war broke out and her boyfriend Briccio disappears. When the war ended, Rosa and her mother live in the Intramuros slums where she meets the carpenter, Diego. Rosa cannot reciprocate the love which Diego offers because her heart still belongs to the lost Briccio. One day she sees Briccio with another woman, Emma. She learns from him that he is now an "impressario" and Emma his financier. Briccio convinces Emma to get Rosa under her care when Donya Isabel dies and Rosa's formal ballet training gets underway. Rosa's interest wanes however because of her jealousy for Emma. To get even with Briccio she makes the friendship of Sancho, Emma's driver, and consents to elope with him. Briccio foils their plans. At this point Diego convinces Rosa that Briccio is only after her welfare and nothing more. On the night of her ballet recital she discovers however that Briccio is in love with her.
