A popular poet, Goku Katsumaru, becomes depressed when his editor jokingly suggests that he is a sell-out. "The Kingdom" is the third film in Kanai Katsu's avant-garde Trilogy which began with two politically films: "The Deserted Archipelago" (1968), a dream journey through the the post-war Japan and "Good-Bye" (1971), an exploration of the plight of the Zainichi, or Japanese of Korean heritage.
