Hmmmmm.....

Maybe i put to much expectation of this drama since the plot of this drama about achive their dream when they are forty. The plot is really good, about friendship, sliced of life, etc.

I love how the actor have the color of their personality but i did get the hype. It become classy k drama when started of episode two.

The main focus of the story not about the dream but they chasing by the time to fullfil all they dream. All the problem only connected into one and it become weird.

Maybe they have to change the title of this drama for more suitable for the story. but yeah the actors is good.

Great chemistry between all the actors, nice story with few not needed subplots.

I quite like this drama because of the amazing storyline, good pace and brilliant chemistry between all the characters.

First thing first, there is unequal screen time shared by the characters and as much as I dislike that notion, I can't fault it much because you know that when you're getting into the show. This is essentially Mi Joo's story about her life, her struggle with her identity as an adopted child, and her friendships and relationships with different people in her life. And I'm not just saying that, it is quite literally her character narrating everything so it's kinda obvious that it is from her perspective which means more focus on her. Therefore, once I acknowledge that fact, I'm unable to understand the inequity between the presence of the characters.

My favourite aspect of the show is the friendship between the three leads and how they tackle the various curveballs life throws at them. These are three vulnerable women who have stood together through thick and thin and we can see that in the bond they share. I also quite appreciate how we see a very "woke" bond in the sense that the women call each other out when one messes it up. For instance, they call out Chan Young's affair for what it is instead of the stupidity we see where friends would support each other's disasters as well. I love when your friends keep you in check and this show is a beautiful amalgamation of that. I also like how they share such a good bond with each other's families and significant others. This is the kind of friendship I aspire for and so I'm really happy to see that on screen.

The show gets quite emotional with its main storyline revolving around the loss of a near one and I like how they show people coping with it in different mechanisms. I've seen another show with a similar trope and cried buckets there. While I did shed a tear or two in this one, I like how it was not overly emotional and sad. Like obviously death is sad, but they handled it well and portrayed it less depressingly. They showed the struggle of people connected in a real sense and that was nice to watch.

Lastly, I also quite liked the way they handled the other tropes like the whole idea behind adoption, however, I feel like that subplot is a little overdone and not very well handled. Like it was fine till it was Mi Joo mentoring Seon Woo's sister but it got too much with the whole involvement of the father and all of that crazy politics. It got a little boring, annoying and unwanted at that point. I also did not quite enjoy the entire idea behind the new subplot of the birth mother and her horrible attitude. The story was strong enough without these tropes and would've done better without such unnecessary subplots.

Overall, I absolutely loved the acting and it is the great chemistry between the three women that make this show super close to my heart. Definitely recommended!

Sad but worth watching

I watched this because I am a fan of Son Ye Jin. I would watch this again except for one thing. It is too sad to watch again. Someone should have warned me that it was going to rip my heart out and stomp all over it. Having lost someone close to me who died from cancer made this drama all the more real. I cried a lot.
The acting was really, really good. Very believable. It just drew me in.

Although I got into the drama because I'm a fan of both Son Ye-jin and Jeon Mi-do, I quite enjoyed the time watching this drama. Big heads up, this is a sad, sad, really sad drama and you'll know it early on so proceed at your own expense.
The drama deals with quite a sensitive and emotion topic, which is grief; more especially, the death of someone before their time. Despite all that, the drama really got its message through and through. It's a testament to human nature of dealing with incredible emotional turmoil and the irreplacable role of friendship in getting through such obstacles. In the end, what I take from the drama is a slight sense of hope and encouragement. And isn't that just enough for a good drama!

If you enjoy crying (like I do)

I'm going to be honest, the first episodes had me blown away. The direction the story was taking was something I hadn't experienced before and the acting was so so so good it had my jaw on the floor. Loved how the story revolves around three women in the end of their 30s and how one deals with loss that isn't sudden but breaks you down little by little until it happens. It is definitely a tear-jerker and a melodrama as some would say. If you enjoy crying as much as me (and cry as easily) I think this drama has a lot to give as it never becomes overbearing. The acting is so good it sometimes felt like I was watching real people, not actors.

Yet some of the cast was better than others (blown away especially by the actors who played Chanyoung and Jinseok) and the sub-plots I didn't find as engaging or interesting. Nor did I really feel the romance between our main character and her love interest. I'm glad it's only 12 episodes so that the story doesn't get dragged on for longer than it should. Don't know if it's worth rewatching, but definitely a memorable drama that'll stay with me for a long time.

Good Series...Though Trailer Was Misleading

This was a really good series, in that it hit many aspects of what being grown-up is about, and that life hands you things you least expect, both good and bad.

I wanted to watch this because it looked like a fun story, with three friends enjoying the end of their 30s. The storyline became a very sad timeline very quick, which was really shocking. Personally, I can relate to this story very much, and also have two really great girlfriends, that have shared a lifelong friendship. I guess I wanted to see this as a happy series, rather than sad, but I completed the series anyway.

I think it could've ended at around episode 8, instead of 12. It was just a lot of added drama for the last few episodes. I think the friend actresses had good chemistry, along with the men who were involved in their lives. It was almost too perfectly synced, though, like it doesn't really work that way so perfectly in real life. But, it's a K-drama, right?

I'd say if you want a drama that will make you hit those emotions, this may be for you. But it's not a comedy or lighthearted at all, like how the trailer showed it.

teardropper

This show was really heavy in terms of emotions... The story is so close and familiar to the tragedies that most of us have experienced in our lives that it quickly draws you in. If you are over 30 and looking for a series to watch for 3-5 days straight and have a good cry, you have found exactly what you are looking for right now. Out of the thousands of hollywood series, 100s of kdramas I've watched so far, It made me cry almost as much as "the light in your eyes" (almost!).

The cast was perfectly chosen and the actors' chemistry was 10 out of 10 and they make you feel inside the story almost from the first minute. Also soundtrack and background music was perfectly fit and never disappoints you...

Hope you like it as much as i do...

the plot of the story is not a new plot. plots like this are already widely used. However, acting from the actors was good and was able to bring me to finish this drama. Thirty nine provides a new perspective on the friendship of three 39-year-old women. There are many touching stories while watching this drama. Mijo, Chanyoung, and Joohee's friendship is very heartwarming. Each character has its own conflict. minus point of this drama is Chanyoung's love story which seems to normalize Jinseok and Chanyoung's affair in the eyes of some viewers. However, if you look at the roots, I think it was Jinseok's wife who lied and Jinseok who didn't act firm and didn't really solve the problem. Come to think of it, Chanyoung's love story is the saddest, having accidents, inner conflicts, and being separated by death. I cried when I watched the last episode. there is no death that is not sad, especially the death of the closest person. Chanyoung's story can be called a beautiful sad ending.

Sad Slice of Life

If you’ve lost someone to cancer…
If someone dear to you is living with cancer…
This drama will be that much more painful to watch.

The friendship dynamics of the 3 friends were reminiscent of Sex in the City especially the way they had each other’s back and their honesty with each other. All 3 FLs excelled in displaying a myriad of emotions and expressions and while this drama focused on one of the FLs more than the other two, it didn’t detract from me being immersed in the way they lived their lives. The MLs had a tough act to follow and some of the couple moments lacked chemistry.

The drama was on the way to being great but unfortunately decided to overuse some typical drama tricks. A few coincidences that makes sense is ok but one that stuck out like a sore thumb was the doctor ML being friends with the other 2 MLs even though he grew up overseas. And these 3 MLs pair up nicely with the 3 FLs…

I was also annoyed at one scene which juxtapositioned one character suffering in pain while another character was enjoying a romantic moment.

Less is clearly more in this case. As it stands, this drama stopped short of being great and just settled at being good.

Great Drama!

It's a very worth to watch drama!
The storyline, actings, chemistry among casts, original soundtrack are just perfect! It has mix emotions in it...Funny, happy, touching, romantic and sad. Son Ye-jin, Jeon Mi-do and Kim Ji-hyun potray each of the besties' character (Cha Mi-jo, Jeong Chang-young and Jang Joo-hee) perfectly. It has a great and deep meaning original soundtrack too. Fast storyline, good narration and flashback flow. It's very relatable with real life situation. A sweet slice of life story with deep message to be delivered about life, friendship, love, struggle, principle and mutual respect.

Poignant, thought provoking, inspiring and beautiful story about the power of friendship

I absolutely LOVE this show. The acting is beyond incomparable. I have cried so many tears as the program is so incredibly touching and moving. As I watch this show, I cannot help but wish to be part of a friendship group like the one depicted in this series. Each one of the 3 main characters absolutely captivates your attention and touches your heart. The fact that there is also a back story regarding adoption and the emotional issues involved is a bonus. Watching these 3 wonderful actresses embrace the characters of loving, caring and generous friends is so amazingly inspirational. I believe there is only one episode left. While most K dramas are single season, I hope that this series will depart from this tradition like Love, Marriage and Divorce and will bring us another season so that we may see how the characters will cope and evolve.

I thank the writers and actors for bringing such wonderful entertainment to us.

LAUGH, LOVE, LIVE… YOUR LIFE!

Yeah, just one episode so far but loving it already! Great cast and surprisingly not the typical Rom-Com happily ever after that everyone is used to or likes. Of course, I’m a hopeless romantic myself but I like the more “realistic, this is life” it’s portraying so far. Maybe because I’m also in my forties, I can relate to some things, ha! Best friends, despite their different ways of living, still supportive and caring of each other no matter what. Chance encounters, awkward attractions and sweet surprises, it’s all part of life, isn’t it? Can’t wait to see how the other 11 episodes will be played out, especially with that opening narrative.
