Making people happy through the love of Webtoons
┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓Welcome back to The K-drama study. Last time, we talked about Cafè Minamdang, which could've been a way better show than what the writers delivered. Today we will discuss Today's Webtoon, which aired from July 29th - September 17th. I've been excited to talk about this show since it first started. So let's jump into the show and remember there will be spoilers.
┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛
Disclaimer: Spoilers will be in this post, so read at your own will
Characters:
Kim Se-jeong as On Ma-eum: On Ma-eum is a fantastic character played by the beautiful Sejeong. Ma-eum is a warm-hearted person who loves to help people as much as possible. I love watching her character learn about working in Webtoons while still having a passion for reading them. I'm also glad the Ma-eun fixed her broken relationship with her father after she stopped judo. I found the acting from Sejeong, as she did a killer job playing her character. Right from the first episode, I fell in love with On Ma-eun, and she never disappointed me.On Ma-eun is one drama character I'll miss seeing since she warmed my heart in this show.

Choi Daniel as Seok Ji-Hyung: Ji-Hyung is another excellent character who helps the new PDs. I love the actor's acting as he portrays the character wonderfully. Ji-Hyung grows throughout the show, seeing him go from Deputy Editor to Co-CEO of a company that will work with webtoon Neon. Ji-Hyun has a warm heart but showcases it strangely. I wish him the best, being the Co-CEO of another company that will continue to work with Neon Webtoon. I will also mention that he is a great mentor to the two new PDs, Ma-eun and Jun-yeong.
»»————- ★ ————-««
Nam Yoon-su as Goo Jun-yeong: Jun-yeong is another interesting character. Initially, I didn't like him as it felt like he wanted to sabotage the Neon Webtoon division. However, as the show continued, I started to like him as he grew closer to the Webtoon staff, and we saw him change his way little by little. I love the interaction between Jun-yeong and Ma-eun, as they both work well together.

Story:
I fell in love with this show 3 minutes into the first episode. One moment in the first episode, we see Me-eun be a bodyguard for webtoon artists, which was fun to see. Later in the episode, she applies at Neon to work in the webtoon division even if she doesn't know much about webtoons besides reading them. One thing this story does well is developed side characters stories like some webtoon artists. Shin Dae-ryu was one of the webtoon artists that grew a lot in the show. Seeing Dae-ryu go from being shy to having more confidence was a thrill. Ma-eun took good care of Dae-ryu, helping him to grow in his webtoon creation. All the people at Neon webtoon work well together as they deliver some laughs to the watcher. The show does a killer job getting you interested in watching as you can feel the emotion from each of the actors. The show's ending was perfect as the character got to achieve their goals, but it made me sad that it was ending. We can learn much from this show, like not giving up when life gets complicated. I can't believe this show is over, but it was an excellent heartwarming show to watch.

OSTS:
Today's Webtoon has some killer songs released during this show's run time. Jihyo delivered the first song for the show, I Fly, which excited me to watch this drama. I got excited for this show because of the plot and Jihyo's OST. Next, Layone delivered OST #2, a singing/rapping one I still have on repeat. Finally, O.when gave a sweet 3rd OST which we heard a lot in the show and one that fits well with the overall vibe the writers and directors bring to the table for this drama. For the 4th track from this drama, we saw 90s singer Kim Tae Woo deliver his singing over a sweet acoustic-pop instrumental that works well with his voice. Next, Kimyeji provided a pop-rock OST with a bright vibe that always puts a smile on my face. Finally, Zeenan dropped the final song for this show, a ballad that makes me sad this drama is finally over. Overall, the OSTS is replayable and are some of the best this year, which keeps me coming back for more. Great job to all the artists and producers for crafting these tracks.

Thanks for reading my thoughts on the Sejeong drama Today's Webtoon. I've decided to give this show an A for being another tremendous drama this year, with excellent characters that grew during each episode. In addition, the writers did a great job crafting the story and teaching us about the webtoon industry. The cast was on fire, making each episode fun to watch. I can't wait to see what Sejeong will be doing next, and don't forget to look out for my Review of Joy's drama Once Upon a Small Town. Have a great day/night where ever you are in this world.

Not worth my time
I saw a clip of this drama on TikTok and I started watching the show. I enjoyed the first couple eps but everything was so repetitive. Oh no the same problem again and again. I get it this show is about webtoons, I am a often webtoon reader and but no it is not that deep. There was barely any comedy. The storyline was absolute shit. I watched 11 eps and it was not worth my time. The drama was very stretched. The cast is amazing so I had very high expectations but I am left with so much disappointment. I wish there could have been more drama or intense moments. I just found it a disappointing and pity-full show. At first, I'm like this is great she can problem solve but it's pathetic, if you are going to repeat the same episode 16 times and just change up 2 words and call it a show, just don't.

It's safe to assume it's the worst drama themed around Webtoon
The whole drama felt like a short web series that was pushed too hard and stretched too thin to be molded into a 16-long-episodes chunk. There was a big tremendous missed opportunity to genuinely create something unique and special about exploring the Webtoon industry with all its intricacies and nuances but what we got was a bloated melodramatic superficial cheap one-dimensional cookie-cutter cut of a mix of poorly structured sappy stories themed around Webtoons. I though we might get something similar to Shirobako but it wasn't remotely close. The drama was grasping at straws to keep itself rolling. A few cases made some good valid points but the majority were bad and embarrassing to include. The drama gave the impression that every Webtoon creator in the industry is a problematic individual that needs constant tinder love and care to function as a human. This drama might be themed around Webtoons but I wouldn't label it as a drama about Webtoons. One thing in particular that became more problematic and annoying as the drama went on was the female lead, her revolting attitude and extreme overreaction with every single breath made her unbearable to even hear her voice. There was an attempt to give her backstory but that was handled with 2 poor scenes. On the other hand, the other main character Goo Joon Young had one singular facial expression that is a wide static smile. Even as a character his role was negligible. One question remained to be answered, why did they end the drama was a love confession?! Huh?Was this review helpful to you?
Not Good Enough
Korean Drama " Today's Webtoon " had some interesting stories when it came to the artists, however, the main story was boring. The short cases of the webtoon artists, first of all, were bittersweet, interesting and entertaining.
On the other hand, the main story was cliche and cheesy. It wasn't the glue to keep the other stories together and cohesive, but it added some unnecessary elements, like the romance, and got in the way, messing the pace and stealing the screentime from the actual enjoyable plotlines. Especially since the main story is an overused one, with a girl working several jobs to get by, working hard and trying to be perfect at her work while remaining positive.
The performances, however, were enjoyable by everyone in the cast.
So, overall, four out of ten.

Hangs in the middle
Today's Webtoon, adapted from a Japanese manga, is mild and not much interesting when converted into Korean Webtoon world. With a global hit (Business Proposal) this year, Today's Webtoon is the 2nd drama of Kim Seo Jeong in 2022, however it had less to no sparks in terms of story. The screenplay to Today’s Webtoon recalls K-drama tropes where a bubbly female lead ends up inspiring those around her and changing it for the better – cheesy motivations, juvenile humour, viewer enjoyment highly dependent on the geniality of the leading lady. At times, Today's Webtoon stretches out select moments of friction between characters or circumstances. At others, it glosses over points that could underpin significant character development.
To summarise, Today's Webtoon is much like the many office dramas before it, but the unbridled confidence, optimism and faith of the characters makes it a one time worthwhile watch.
My Rating : 5.5/10

One of the most underrated shows on MDL!
No, I'm not exaggerating! I don't get why this show is disliked by so many people. It was an amazing feelgood, fun, slice of life drama about REAL PEOPLE with REAL STRUGGLES! Honestly, ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN KDRAMA I'VE SEEN! Most people said, it's boring, nothing special and didn't had any romance at all. Why do you want to watch a show only for romance? Just because the main focus wasn't about romance, doesn't mean the drama is bad! The characters were fantastic and REAL! I know how it feels to pursue your dreams and most of the time fail. I wanted to be an athlete and later an artist. I still want to! Neither worked out so far, so I can understand the struggle. The show portrays PERFECTLY how it feels to lose your dream or just feel lost, alone. Also, it showed us why this industry is hard and most of the time companies only care about money. If you're an artist, or you had or have a dream, you're going to love this show, because it showed every aspect of the struggle that a person have when you try to achieve your goals. Not to mention, that this drama is another one that portrays perfectly how toxic people can be, and they just want a new episode, but they don't even care about the artists. If they don't like something that they see, they will spread hate against them, and they don't care if they hurt them. They don't care how much work and time they put in their work, they think being toxic equals with fair criticism! Also, if some random person post lies about an artist online, people instantly believe it and they want to cancel them. That was so real, and I was so angry, because people are like that! So here's a quote from the Spider-Man movie that pretty much sums up this show and the so-called "fans"! They're hypocrites!
"THE ONE THING THEY LOVE MORE THAN A HERO IS TO SEE A HERO FAIL, FALL, DIE TRYING. IN SPITE OF EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE FOR THEM, EVENTUALLY, THEY WILL HATE YOU."
Kim Sejeong were absolutely perfect in this role!!! Even tho Ma Eum was strong in the outside she wasn't flawless, she was a real human. If you only like perfect people who never make mistakes, don't waste your time on this show. This show is for those who want to see a story about real people with real struggles, and Ma Eum was just one of them. Basically, every character on this show had their own problems that they had to deal with.
I saw someone said, Ma Eum didn't really care about Dae Ryuk. Well, all I can say is that you watched the show with the blindfold on. Ma Eum literally cared about everything and everyone! Especially her artists, and Dae Ryuk! He's story was unique and the way they wrote it was surprising even. I honestly didn't think it's going to be like that. His relationship with Ma Eum was PHENOMENAL! Everyone need a friend like her! I didn't read his Webtoon, we only see a glimpse of it and still, when we saw how his latest chapter ended, I was like Ma Eum! It felt like I was with him in his journey. There's not a lot of show that made me feel the same way.
My only problem with the show is that sometimes it felt like there's a love triangle, but they didn't do much with that. So it was weird.
I could mention like 5 other side-story, because the backstory of some side characters were amazing, but I don't want to write a whole book about it and spoil it for those who didn't see the show yet.
PS: This show screams for season 2 or even more, because this is the story that you can continue for a long time, and it's still feel fresh!

More comedy and slight melodrama, than “rom”-com to be honest.
I only picked up this drama because I love Kim Se Jeong in Business Proposal and Busted, she was really humble and kind and cute in that reality show. We all know she can act, based on her performance on Uncanny Counter too. When I first started the drama, it was really funny, light and exactly what I was looking for. I wasn’t sure if there was going to be a full blown romance, but I didn’t really care. I personally read manga, manhwa and Webtoon comics, so the storyline really interested me.
I enjoyed the rag-tag cast, I enjoyed the eccentric artist, especially Im Chul Soo from It’s okay to be Not okay. So yeah, with ALL THAT SAID, there was something about this drama that I just couldn’t 100% connect once it got deeper into the issues / drama.
1.) The MAIN storyline of the group / department wouldn’t last one year if they couldn’t turn it around, was a very dragged out storyline. Within the first 20 mins of the show we realized this is the storyline and it was the MAIN storyline that you will hear OVER AND OVER again. This was very frustrating and I just wanted to look at the other characters.
2.) There wasn’t a romantic storyline, which would have been fine, but it was odd to see one kind of thrown in there last minute and the writers tried to peek your interest by making you question who would be the guy. I wouldn’t even call this a love triangle because the main FL was unaware to everything. Besides some glances here and there, they really could have cut that whole part out.
3.) I enjoyed that the artists had their own issues and problems, but again, once they had a problem and it was solved, they kept on coming back with additional problems. It took me awhile to figure out they were part of the cast, but I think it would have been better to have more artists come or have different issues outside of them. It was just very repetitive.
4.) FL wardrobe! So, they cut her beautiful hair and I was fine with that, she actually looked cute with a bob, but why in the world did they dress her like Dora the Explorer with those oversized baggy pants with a dress shirt and doc martins? She looked utterly ridiculous and off putting. Just a BIG NO wardrobe people.
The drama was different in the sense it focused on comics, but it was very political, highly repetitive, dragged-out and the romantic side was non-existent. It’s good if you like the casting and are into political dramas, because even though it’s based on comics, it’s really about corporations. So, you could have inserted any kind of corporation into the storyline.

EVER HAD A DREAM?
This is an exception. I never write reviews. But you should know this. What if you could find something common between a judo wrestler, a brother losing his sister and the love for reading and analysis?- Correct !!!!Webtoon
if you love dramas which imprint you with their comfort, love and healing - you would be glad to have found this drama. The characters grow organically and somehow, none of them is stereo typically bad or good but just human.
the acting, the music scores, the costumes too are perfect for each person in here. each comic and each episode arises with a theme and leaves you with something I could profoundly relate and learn from. no matter how much fear over powers you - paradise is not a place you can run to!
We navigate through different and intertwined artists and their lives and growth- the passion, their needs, their mental states and how creation does flower through adversity, all we need is hope - which is definitely something you can protect.
finally, the heartwarming family life of our fl does make you feel warm and cozy as will the whole of the drama!
i hope you easy winters and hot cup of cocoa.
? with love.

Find strength in your life
It's a different drama about life choices in the workplace and in the social relationship. For On Ma Eum the webtoons were his strength in the most difficult moments with Judo.
For other characters the Webtoons are sweat and sacrifice but also overcoming various obstacles they manage to find strength in their work.
I really enjoy this drama because I have seen how a person can grow and learn from others, from their mistakes and become better person and why not occasionally achieve a personal goal or dream.

A REAL COMEDY! SE JEONG IS THE QUEEN OF COMEDY KDRAMA
I can say this is kinda a hidden gem, i havent see many people talk about it but its a good kdrama. Its a comedy, but it has some really heartwarming moments, it made me cry both from the laughter and the saddness at times. I am not a huge fan of comedies, but this one is very good. The story isnt something special, but the thing that keeps you is the characters, and when i say characters i dont mean only the main ones, but every single one we got to watch in the entire drama. Ma Eum is a great main character, she was the sunshine of the drama and even tho i usually find kinda annoying characters with traits like hers, i couldnt just not like her, the way she was so positive and always helped, she is amazing, and of cousre once again Se Jeong proved she is the Queen of comedy when it comes to Kdramas, the way she acts is just breathtaking. At some point i was confused, i didnt know who was the male lead, i still dont know who was it... But i like that, i am so bored with the cliches, this is something different. Both male leads were very well written and they had good development as the drama progressed. I have a favorite but i am not going to spoil, i will just say that i loved "love your coworker, love your country". All the PDs were great too, best for me was DP Kwon, his character was extremely interesting and his story was very unexpected but special too. The webtoon artists were very good too, each of them special and i loved their bond with their PDs.Shin Dae Ryuk story was so sad, but i loved the ending for him (and what a glow up...).
In conclusion, this drama is a fun watch and i really believe that you will like it, especially if you like comedies, but even if you dont (like me).

an aspiring and interesting story board
Todays webtoon is an amazing work. Todays webtoon shows the struggles and hardship faced by the webtoon team and it mainly focuses on the struggles of the main lead On Ma Eum and the webtoon team of Neon company. Its really crazy and having unexpected twists around the story. Also I hope there is another season for giving a correct answer to Jun Yeong from Ma Eum. Also if there is a second season for this series it could also be a bright and entertaining series. Todays webtoon also prioritizes of the various young artists who want to show and express their stories through webtoon. This series is also not only revolves around the main leads but also the incidents of the characters also, it is definitely recommended to watch .Was this review helpful to you?
about hope and giving all your heart
Truly an underrated gem, I was very worried when I saw so many skeptical comments on here but two of my favorite k-actors acts in this so I /had/ to give it a try and oh boy I'm so glad I did!If you loved Run On and Gaus Electronics like me, this is the perfect slice of life/comedy drama. At first we're introduced to the main cast and you may think that it will only follow the story of On Maeun but what the writers actually decided to make is a beautiful ensemble cast. Really, every single character even if it's just a support cast has his moment and his story. Some of them will make you think, some of them will make you cry. The relationship between the PDs and their artists are so sweet.
One of the surprises of this cast was certainly Shin Dae Ryuk/Kim Dohoon, a beautiful and complicated character, the acting was honestly sooo good. I already saw him in Law Cafè and although I loved his character on it too, wow! kudos, really.
Kim Sejeong confirms herself as one of my favorite actress, she's such a cutie in this one but /never/ cringy. And when there are serious moments you can see her talent, loved her little monologues. Nam Yoonsun is sooo incredible too, loved his story and really didn't see /that/ coming, I think his chatacter is one of my favorite in kdrama history, just a silly dude who tries his best, skeptical at first (I think his chatacter is the one that most of the audience can relate to) but then he can't help to be dragged by the hurricane that On Maeun is. Also DIMPLES.
Honestly I could gush about every single cast but anyways. A beautiful drama, is it maybe too optimistic? Yeah, maybe, but honestly I loved that. I think we need more stories in which people without a single hope left, people who fought for their dreams just to see them crushed, people who don't know what their future holds for them, see that sometimes, just sometimes! working hard and putting your heart (your entire heart, ha!) pays off. Protecting hope etc. etc. A love story to webtoons and to the people who work hard in the shadows.
