a community, and adorable couple
I think the writer wanted to play on certain audience misconceptions - real life judgment in a scripted environment. That made some people uncomfortable, some militant, and nulled some fans preconceived notions. Just because someone has played a gay person, or is a gay person in real life. Has mannerisms, or a job you believe are stereotypical, neither of which denotes character (or real life) sexual preference. But, just like the characters in this drama that misunderstood the male lead's orientation. All characters you are watching and their mannerisms are scripted, and not the actor that plays that part. That being said."You Are My Make Up Artist" is a romantic comedy series, with a main couple you could watch make cute faces at each other for an entire episode and it would be enough. But, even with that going for it, there are story issues. With a rocky beginning, and a writer that wanted to hit their audience over the head with teaching moments - known as misunderstandings. They had reasons; Highlighting the treatment of the LGBTQ community in Thailand. Drawing attention to the treatment of the vulnerable as second class citizens. While, emphasizing truth and forgiveness between individuals. And, if you can accept that, and a really adorable couple. With, an ending other dramas only dream of. I can recommend it.

Thinking Cap On
First off, I feel like I have to defend the actress. I feel a lot of people are being hard on the FL without releasing she's been through a lot. Literally the first ep. the ML lowkey rapes her. She was drunk and not in a consensual, safe mind and body. And yes he held back, but he did it anyway. And then he switches the birth control pills on purpose, so he could get her pregnant.Yes she wanted kids and a family, but she was violated. And when every she throws divorce into it, its understandable. A pregnant women with lot of hormones, and I think people are dismissing that fact b/c they find the ML cute and soft boy.
Plus later on she releases she does have feelings for him, but again, she was violated. it will take time to heal and accept her new reality. And to add, I think this show shows a more realistic approach on LGBTQ. Because I do know its harder in the entertainment business to be openly gay anyway in Asia.
Now besides all that, I think the drama is good. If you take your thinking cap off, you'll enjoy it. The one thing about Thai show is that they know how to do toxic, and I love it. The Second ML is vicious and I can't wait to see how he messes his life up. The girl he got pregnant, I started off hating her, but she's great and actually nice. And my favorite character cause she so funny and real is the Niece, Rin. Overall, enjoy it. It's good.

I'm a big fan of Janie T. I really like her ever since thats why i always watched all her Lakorn. I became Gulf K is so gorgeous and i became an instant fan although he needs to practice and learn how to act more better than this .If you are looking for a light drama then this is for you. I find the story entertaining . The story is simple its all about the love of a guy to a girl whom he adores so much since he was little , Its also about LGBTQ and their challenges in the entertainment industry. Im giving 10 rate as im waiting for Janiee's Lakorn for years ..Was this review helpful to you?
Dramatic
Tbh I'd start with what I liked:-Gulf (he looked damn here)
-The idea of the plot
-Comedy
-Acting (was realistic)
Did not like:
- Too much drama
-At times the plot felt soapy
The FL (Va) was too much at times which was not required. She threw things at the ML (Gut) and een kicked/slapped him at times shich was unnecessary.
Even though there was a slight development in her character yet at time she was "Too Much".
The ML was extra sweet/caring/loving which is understandable because FL's mother took care of him in the past. Plus, FL also supported him from their childhood. His character is suited for the "drama life" not the reality. No one gets this kinda guy in the present day. His character might make us fantasize but yk that's not reality.
The Negative character (Non) did give a lot into his character and did a great job. One might think he is doing extra but trust me! people ARE like that today.
Praifah who actually was a bad character went through a drastic development after she got pregnant. She actually isn't bad but gullible.
The supporting cast:
Jack- I bloody loved him. He's not the main characer but he stole the show.??
Pat- He's my another show stealer. Very logical and practical. Well eisher of FL and he gave the best advices.
Jan- Ugh just ugh ?
Rin and Ran- Comedy insulator ?

Guilty pleasure like a tub of my favourite ice cream (I am lactose intolerant ?)
Did I like the drama? Yes… Does this drama make any sense ? No… Do I still like it? Yea… Why do I like it? I don’t know it just somehow made me happy happy. It was cute… There was no boring moment. Is this drama problematic in its portrayal of LGBTQ? I don’t think so. Since the drama shines a light on people’s perceptions within the drama world and universe. We see Thai dramas and assume Thai society would be accepting. But clearly this perception is idealised and in real life prejudices exist.
I sometimes like content which is very simple and not deep but entertaining and this is to me.
To me it’s very difficult to watch tearjerker nothingness like the “end of the moon”. Life in general is hard so I like my fluffies when I watch a drama.
I can only bring myself to read sad novels like “A little life” by hanya yanagihara or Tolstoy books but content to watch, I just can’t.
This is the happiest fluffiest drama I have watched in the past month.

ML deserves better
Toxic relationships are par for the course in lakorns but the FL treats the ML so badly and seems to have no interest in him as a person, despite knowing him since childhood. It’s a shame since the ML is a kind, soft boi ? while the FL is a self-centred and spoiled rich woman (but not in the fun bamf way and more of a whiny unlikable person. She’s a doormat for her crappy ex but mean to the sweet ML. This would be more palatable were this a slap/kiss revenge lakorn but for a mainly romcom where the ultimate draw is rooting for the leads to be together, it seems like an odd choice.
Overall it’s fine to pass the time while you look for a better drama to watch, but you would have to be truly determined to make it through to the end.

A Hidden Gem
Had many of the most memorable moments out of any show I've watched. I laughed, I cried. It was soo good. The acting/characters/chemistry was 10/10.*BIG SPOILERS*
The ML is actually much richer than her, but he hides it for reasons. If you keep watching it, it's an amazing show. Towards the end, the FL breaks down after she realizes everything he's done for her and that she had loved him from the beginning too. The makeup box scene had me absolutely bawling. She was always his protector and he was always her supporter and did everything to make her happy. He goes through a thousand misunderstandings, which I'm very glad the FL understood and forgave each of these fairly quickly and it wasn't drawn out. She straight up would say 'I know you didn't actually do this and aren't like this, but I need evidence/proof so go get it', and he would get it every single time. (There's one scene towards the end where she thought he was doing bad things with Jack, but they 'were' sneaking around (because Jack was helping him run his rich business), he was lying to her and she knew it and she's far in her pregnancy, having nightmares, paranoid, so ofc she has a 'you're really gay aren't you' moment, but it's obvious she doesn't actually believe it and that lasts like a second lol). He worked his a$$ off nonstop to make her happy and to be there for her every time she needed someone.
To the sensitive stuff:
I know the beginning is hard for some to watch because she was wasted and he was barely drunk, but she was practically ripping his clothes off begging him to 'give her a baby'. Like excuse me, she literally GRABS HIS CROTCH and says 'this is not fun sized, no this is a family pack, give me babies! I'll do it myself' and jumps on him after 10 minutes of him saying 'no' 'stop' while she tried to rip his clothes off and no one is talking about that??? (Think. If this was a guy doing this to a woman while he's drunk, saying give me a baby so that's not okay, but her literally ripping his clothes off, grabbing his d*ck, jumping him, kissing him, pinning him down on the bed, pinning his face into her boobs, kicking him when he tries to run out of the room, and then tying him up with a scarf before dragging him into the bathtub, this is all 'ok' because she's a female that's drunk. So, he's bad, but she's not? They were both assaulting each other, they're both victims of each other, and both were secretly in love with each other.
But it only takes a couple episodes and you can tell she already loved(s) him (her thought bubbles are like 'how are you not getting that?' 'Ask me to marry you!" etc), but she never acted on those feelings because she wanted a 'high profile, rich husband'. And that's why he worked so hard for 8 years to be the rich husband she wanted. I feel like too many people are judging this and missing out on this amazing gem. Cutest, happiest ending ever!

In my opinion, this male actor is horrible. He comes off so feminine and tries to play a straight that makes no sense. He's acting doesn't even shows that he a straight it's very annoying what street man is in the world with a woman doesn't try to sleep with her when she's clearly given him the chance to after they got together and I'm really get annoyed with Thailand romance genre where a lot of the actors who played in gay dramas have to play, a straight man so feminine, it makes no sense Was this review helpful to you?
