A Feel Good Drama on an angst subject!
A modern title to an ancient costume drama was incongruous!Spoiler Alert!
This is a short review on looking at this drama from the angle of a lighter vein on an angst subject-death. How to make it into a feel good drama?
Antithetically sprinkling the sets with modern props? Give the viewers a fun time spotting them?
Add lots of comedic relief support players?
Approach it from a Chinese idiom, the “Sai Weng Shi Ma” (the old man lost his horse) method? (learning Chinese!) Facing life challenges in equanimity and matter-of-factly as there may be a hidden silver lining.
The story was mainly on 2 characters, the FL and the ML.
The FL was a level headed and kind-hearted female head of her clan with an impending doom .She had inherited her family deadly disease which will kill them before the age of 25. However that fate can be averted if she can find the “Destined One”, a man with a mole beneath the eye (the ML).
The ML was a stoned faced head of a mountain sect with an anomaly of a warm heart. He was on a mission to steal a martial arts book which can heal his demonic rage when it surged suddenly. That can be found in the FL place.
The plot was a simple story for the 2 main characters to find their remedies. With such a simple plot the script should have been tighter! Supporting characters like the rival lover, his cousin, his mother, the bad guy’s duo, should had less screen time. The SML (ML’s brother} and his physician were the comedic relief couple. There was no need to add duos of the bodyguards and the bad guys; too many cooks spoiled the drama!
In the end, how did the FL avoided her appointment with death at an early age? Give her the “Sai Weng Shi Ma” effect! She was hit mega dose from the villain and collapsed. The villains, Ml, FL were practicing from 1 martial arts book which had been tore into 3 parts. Each part when practiced singularly was dangerous. The villain was stagnated; ML had demonic rage while Fl shortened her life. The ML, who by then had found his missing book and practiced it, gave his inner force daily to FL to keep her alive. 3 different “qi” slowly merging into 1, and she came back to life!
Re-watch? Yes! Watch list after watching a sad ending drama!

Simple, short & sweet
If you're looking for something light and funny, this series is for you. I don't expect much since it's low budget. The storyline makes sense and is easy to follow (even if you don't look at the subtitle all the time). There is a clear character development for both FL and ML (i.e. ML becomes more loving. FL becomes more independent). The main couple is cute and you can see the chemistry between them. All supporting characters are funny too. They have their own personalities and don't blend together. The minus point is it does get quite cheese sometimes. The series tries to get as many kissing scenes as possible, to the point that feels quite forced. Also, I hope the 2nd couple gets more screen time :)

Different and fun romcom
I was looking for something to watch that wouldn't require a large investment in time and wasn't too serious. This series definitely did it for me.The hair, makeup, costumes, and sets were all great and quite different for the usual cdramas I've been watching. The OST and the background music were just perfect for the show. And I loved the little bit of animation added. Just enough to be cute but not over the top.
Honorable mention to some things that just cracked me up:
Shave and a haircut at the end of the opening song.
The FL's steampunk-looking hair and costumes.
The brother's curly locks that are so bad they look like the cowardly lion's after they get spruced up in Oz.
The dance off.
Sausage lips.
I know it's not a BL but the doctor and the brother story, especially with the sexy saxophone playing every time they shared the screen together, makes me giggle. If you want to see what I'm talking about please play the first few minutes of episode 20! OMG.
The brother and doctor in disguise as puppets with their arms locked together skipping through the enemy!
Episode 19 around the 16:40 mark - ML's tighty whities showing through his robes just cracks me up. They had to have noticed that at the time of filming, and definitely in post-production, but they kept it in for our viewing pleasure.
All in all, a fun watch that I definitely recommend. It's worth your time.

WORTH IT-- SMOOTH SAILING
Lately, I've been dragged by the famous cdramas that made me feel plain and looking for something unique. Then I stumbled upon this short yet magnificent drama! I did not spoil myself at the end like I trusted the writer that she/he would not let me down. Glad I did! The first ep caught my attention so I continued. I laugh and cry then laugh. Even near the end, they never fail to make me laugh. The ending was satisfying and it was rare to have this fluff ending that you kind of would not wish for more. I was satisfied that they had moments together before it was ended. Well, I was looking for his brother and the doctor but ow well. This is legit worth rewatching!
It can save you after some drama that made you withdraw to much angst, sadness, or tragedy. But of course, with open arms and just enjoy the show. Because men, this series did not fail to make me laugh for a day. Made me rest for a while. And I did not feel cliche or 2nd embarrassment like the FL was born to play this one haha. This was also my first series The 2nd character did not get my attention that much Mabe because he arrived at the latter where the MC already had a fondness between them. But of course, I followed every 2nd character in any series so I kinda feel sad about his past and how he turns out. I'm not bad at the writer for making him that way. Maybe because it was justified and he turned out good in the end,.
I just realized that made the ML here a little bit too calm that the FL always shines and takes the initiative. But I did not see it throughout the show. I guess, the writer did a good job of balancing the compatibility of this couple. Now, I kinda like this kind of ML personality.
And the FL, currently this was the kind of FL I've been looking for. And I want to find an underrated series with this kind of FL!
Overall, this was nice and good. if you're looking for
Want some strong brotherly bond?
FL without grace and talk and do whatever she feels?
FL with confidence at the maximum level yet the courage made me you root for her?
ML that didn't actually have enemies to lover stage to FL instead, friend and building fondness?
MCs that did not hate guts each other yet their process is still humorous and ideal?
Kinda a unique plot base?
Smooth sail with a touch of rain?
So good ending?
Then watch this!

Not a masterpiece but very entertaining
This is a lighthearted comedy that never takes itself too seriously. There are some very silly moments (the inept adversaries, the main characters accidentially knocking each other out, etc.) but the drama manages to steer clear of some of the most dreadful xianxia-tropes, like the endless misunderstandings, the forced breakup, the damsel-in-distress FL, etc. The romance between the FL/ML is sweet without becoming too syrupy. The couple has a period of separation due to the FL’s amnesia, but this only lasts for a few episodes. The start may feel a bit slow, but otherwise the pacing is good and there are no drawn out boring bits.
The FL is quite a refreshing character, gutsy and straightforward, a natural opposite of the more restraint ML.
The ML’s brother provides a lot of comedy throughout the drama. His bromance in the second part of the drama was unexpected and a nice touch.

Simple but good
There are some parts that are quite confusing for me. There are some supporting characters who aren't given the time to show themselves, like what happened to them? They just immediately vanished until the last episode. For example Li Ji An's mother, it's obvious that she loved her son but was deeply hinder because of his father. I also want to see her reaction when his son died. Also, the people of Tang Sect, they were never shown even after their Young Master almost die. But overall, it's still a good drama. Maybe I just expected more from the ending. Was this review helpful to you?
Amazing
So i was on a down low while i decided to watch this,my oh my...what a breath of fresh air. The show is amazing and short,i honestly wish it had more episodes. The guy from advance bravely is here as the main lead and he and the FL has such great chemistry, they just mesh well together,i love all the characters even the villian, the crazy brother and the doc was soo cute together,i have to applaud everyone in this show,i could watch it everyday, there is a lot of comical parts,so its not too heavy on the drama, politics or killing, i really enjoyed the last 2 eps especially ? ❤️Was this review helpful to you?

Copy cat of other dramas... nothing new and SOOOO CHEESY
WHERE DO I START?!?! This drama is funny and entertaining to watch if you want some background noise. Story line is the same like any other chinese romance now . ML is a cold, arrogant and good looking rich man who has some kind of illness( turns to blue eyed demon). FL is a clueless, cute and dumb girl that is the leader of a clan... she also has a heart disease and can't live past 25?. They fell in love while trying to find a book to heal them. 2nd leads are both kind of dumb and will do whatever in order to get what they want. The acting is Meh, not that good but not that bad either, especially when they're flying or falling off a cliff. The fact that they just stand there when falling or flying shows how OBVIOUS about them being attached to a line and dangling in mid air..... WHY ARE CHINESE HISTORICAL ROMANCE GETTING SOOOOO CHEESY!??? Really not impressed ? ?

So cute!! A lighthearted watch that strikes the right balance
Ok so if you’re looking for some high quality drama obviously this is not it. I wanted to watch something with fresh new faces but also something that’s good to de-stress and fun. This is it. I laughed from start to finish. The main female lead is silly but she’s cute and reasonable. She’s not illogical like a lot so FL are in these low budget shows. She’s cute and witty. The actress is very pretty and natural despite some kind cringe lines. She actually makes it pure and natural instead of trying hard to be cute and overact. I like that a lot. There’s room for improvement of course but she’s definitely one I’ll be watching more. The male lead is also really cute. I thought he would be the typical cold and mean ML but he’s just standoff ish. Other than that he’s very kind and loving. He’s a big softie who is also clear about his feelings right away and fall for the FL soon after he knows more about her. I love love love his character. This actor has been in some supporting roles and I thought he was cute but didn’t realize how well he fits as the cold ML archetype. He looks so handsome. Acting wise I think he’s a little stiff but not in a cringey way and actually naturally fit the character well. This is a great role for him and I think he really showed he does have the charisma to be the lead. He has very expressive eyes despite his body posture being a little stiff. I think his eyes emotes well. I’m pleasantly surprised by him. I hope he continue to grow in the future. They make such a cute pair. Both actors definitely compliment each other well. Is it some deep crazy love story? No but it makes you smile because they’re so darn cute. There’s def lots of cliche with the romance but hey I’m not complaining. Give it to meeee. Despite all the cliche fall and catch and accidental kisses, the romance developed very well and they both are very straight forward and open with each other once they know their feelings. No silly mind games. Very pure and honest, which is definitely not common. Despite the circumstances they’re in, they chose to be happy instead of ravel in despair. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but for a fun lighthearted show, it’s what I was looking for. From the start, there’s so many jokes and hilarious tone from the start. The show doesn’t take itself seriously and I love it. I think for the mood I was in, this show strikes the right balance. There’s enough plot to keep the story going and create stakes and heartfelt connection However, nothing is taken overly seriously that it takes away from the comedy. Lots of show starts funny and then got too serious that they forget the jokes. I think for a pure lighthearted romcom, this strikes the right balance for me. Watch it with ease and ready to just relax and laugh. Don’t harp too much on the details and you’ll really enjoy this one.
