Both dramas taking place during pro-democracy movements, and are about a blooming romance between youth during such troubling times.

I loved the character of Hui Seong while watching Mr. Sunshine. He was a carefree, cheerful person who was happy with the little things. He was artistic and loved poetry and flowers. I compare Hee Tae to him because of these character traits. I love such people, even if they are not strong.

The story talks about the same era and kinda the vibe is the same. But totally different genre. 2521 is more friendship and rom com, but Youth of may is more relationship and drama also with a sad ending! We still dont know if 2521 will give us a sad ending or a happy one?!

Very similar feel between the main couple. Both major tear jerkers. Beautiful heartbreaking stories with loveable characters and a couple you want to root for. Just all around gorgeous cinematography and amazing osts. Just go watch them already lol

If you loved the period flashbacks of Chicago Typewriter, then you'll love Youth of May! Youth of May is another period flashback of a time in Korea that was filled with protests and movements and politics. It starts off light and sweet, but soon explores the serious events that unfold, much like Chicago Typewriter does. The romance is sweet as well in this drama. There is also a heartbreaking aspect to this story like there was with Chicago Typewriter. On the surface, the dramas may sound very similar, but they are quite different once you start watching! But if you loved Chicago Typewriter and want another period/historical drama with talks of movements and romance, then Youth of May is the one for you.

Nostalgic romance
Male leads join revolutionary movements during their college years
Vintage vibes, one set in the 80's, the other one in the 90's

The plots are similar as the main 2 leads. Both FL are going on the blind date for their friend while the ML is "forced" to go on a blind date.

Same plot - Someone takes place for their friend and go to a blind date.
Same ML and FL - Minsi and Dohyun works together for the 3rd time.

Takes place near the start of the 80s, romance included, has similar feeling (note that I have watched up to episode 2 so far)
I am in love with vintage feels and styles.

in ep 15 when he says be my family it remind me of them bc the female protagonist in both of the dramas have a cozy and warm family but the protagonist dont so when they are together they are their own family and also they rely on eachother when they both are struggling

1. There was Romance and that was a happy ending; a bittersweet one!
2. Not a shortage of tragedy events; be warn this is a war movie.
3. Very family oriented; this is the most heart breaking part of the series.
4. Based on actual historical events.

Gwangju uprising and what happend in 1980!
A taxi driver is based on a true story! But youth of may show it's story in the base of real events!
Having the ability to preview what really happened in that period is admirable, this means that the current days are much better (at the level of korea at least) as that uprising wished for!

Regret for decisions made
Past and present lives of the characters

When romance is thrown in the turmoils of history.
Both dramas start like your typical romcom, boy meets girl, girl dislikes boy... (Granted, in My Dearest the FL is wearing a hanbok while in Youth of May, she's running around in jeans.)

But then, history with an H intervenes. For Youth of May, the dictature and the shadow of the Gwangju massacre are looming over the happiness of our protagonists. For My Dearest, it's the Qing invasion that sweeps them away. So, if you like a *somewhat* realistic period piece that isn't all political and that still has time for some cutesie lovey dovey stares between the lead, these dramas are for you.

In both you have the perfect balance of lightheartedness and Melo

It has some particular things in similar. At first, we were shown a corpse with the FL stuff they found with the body. This makes us wonder is that the FL or not? It's kinda angst like that. The ML love the FL very much that they ain't scared of anything, while the FL take some more time to be honest with their feelings. The thing is, camellia is bright and fluff and comedic also a murder mystery in modern era while youth of may is more mellow, tragic, and involve real history thats set in 80s.
