Novel transmigration with cute romance and reverse gender roles
Don’t let the negative comments about the ending stop you from watching this! I really loved everything about this drama except the censored ending. But thankfully we have the secret clip from douyin that wraps up the story (link below). This drama is about the female lead who is transported from the modern world to a historical novel. In the novel, the Peacock City is run by women and women have the same rights as men. The female lead drops from the sky and is appointed as the Peacock Holy Envoy. The male lead is the Minister of Rites who seemingly befriends her but has secret schemes.
POSITIVE:
- Bad boy with a good heart male lead.
- Cute romance and kiss scenes.
- Great chemistry between the leads.
- Frenemies to lovers trope (push and pull dynamic).
- Mix of political intrigue, investigations and revenge.
- Reverse gender roles.
- Smart and quirky female lead who uses her science knowledge to bypass the plot.
- Mostly light-hearted with great comedy moments + a bit of angst towards the end.
- Similar vibes (not plot) to The Romance of Tiger and Rose.
- Prophetic dreams (I loved that bit).
NEGATIVE:
- Censored ending. However there is a secret clip on douyin that wraps up the story. So the drama is still worth watching. Scroll below for spoilers and link.
- Some small parts lack logic but it’s part of the charm and comedy for me.
- Female lead is a bit of a baby sometimes (not a lot).
OVERALL:
If you want a light-hearted transmigration story with reverse gender roles and cute romance, watch this drama.

It’s a shame that this got zero promotion. I’m going to guess and say it’s because the male lead had issues with the government and had to leave the industry. So they not only censored the drama by giving us an odd ending but also cut it to appear as a short drama (perhaps short dramas pass easier?). I’m pretty sure this was originally done as a typical full length drama (each episode is 20 minutes, that’s around 20 full episodes if it’s 40 minutes each).

ENDING SPOILER:
In the finale episode, the female lead dies and is transported back to the modern world. She reads the novel, the story is now changed and doesn’t include her (which we see that play out on screen). There are ambiguous details to suggest the male lead is aware of the book change. END of drama. NOW, thanks to the secret clip uploaded on douyin, we can see the male lead (sports jacket) is reading the same novel in the modern world. The female lead calls his name and he turns around to face her. So they end up meeting each other in the modern world too.

Wish for a better ending
I really love this drama because the plot and everything was well put together. I was so in love with this until the ending. No one died, but why did they decided to just split the two like that? Why do they end it like nothing ever happen between the lead. I would love to rewatch this drama again only if the ending was not like that. The ending traumatized me, I do not like and would want to forget that this drama ever exist because of that single ending. Hopefully there's a season 2 or else I would never going to come back and watch it like I want to.Was this review helpful to you?

What just happened??
I don't get the ending... at all.. When she goes back to the timeline and was reading the book. All that was changed is that the book was revised to have a happier ending for the book characters only, and her existence isn't even important or remembered anymore. If that's the case, then I don't get why she went in the book/gets inside the story if she wasn't even remembered (I mean they hinted that the male lead either misses her or knows someone is missing, but that's about it). Did she even change the plot of the story? Since the recap on the ending part just shows that when He Huan was performing the ritual he failed and they were exposed, blabla...I sincerely loved it, had a few laughs here and there, the actors and actresses did their part (felt some chemistry with all 3 couples), and I finished the drama due to my curiosity and I was genuinely disappointed with what happened. I love happy endings and sad endings equally, BUT I really hate it when the ending just baffles me and the drama that I spend time watching doesn't even have a clear ending.
I would rather prefer a sad ending (since they more or less forced it to be one, since she suddenly without any reason at all goes to ML's brother and pretends to have a fake relationship until suddenly she was forced to get married and she regrets her decision?) Like girl, you should've just stayed put with the ML, have the children there, and done, the drama has a happy ending. But since she suddenly finds herself in the air thanks to a what it seems to be a hot air balloon that she rigged to explode, they should've just made it into a sad ending in the book (meaning that HER presence changed the storyline in the book), BUT they meet in her timeline and finally reunite (or something IDK, anything is better).
Edit:
Thanks to another user, @Suzette Ser, there is a better alternative ending (refer to their comment or go to this link: https://www.douyin.com/user/MS4wLjABAAAA8Gft2z08CjrLcEI3BGbNk6CLkePD5pUTxQbD0haYQBF7uU0hiAy4KW651lRC_yAL?modal_id=7360304476701396239 and if you're interested go ahead and look at it). Where her existence is not forgotten since the ML in the book remembers her, which gives meaning to him looking at that flower. Even though they did not interact in the real world, that is still a clearer and better ending than what we were given in the drama.

Short & Fun
I don’t have much to say about this one. It was a cute little drama that was fun watching. While the episode count says 42, the episodes are less than 30 minutes, so it’s also a fast watch. This makes it perfect to watch when you are commuting to and from work or when you want to watch something which doesn’t require using much brain power. The show was interesting and funny, I did not fall asleep while watching this one and I didn’t even have to multitask. I enjoyed all the characters and they all had great chemistry with each other. The main couple was adorable and they had some good kisses. I think my favorite part of the story is that there were some gender reversal elements, like the men were the ones carried on the sedans and who covered their faces with a fan on the wedding day ceremony. While many were probably swooning over Muyang and I don’t blame you, he is a man who is able to protect you and still look prettier than you while doing it, I would prefer someone like Lai. He can be my stay-at-home hunny and mend my clothes, clean my house, run my errands, and cook my food.
The show was not without its flaws, the ending was typical of censored transmigration dramas, and I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece, but it certainly hit the right spot. I enjoyed the relationship dynamics of the cast, the romances, the story, and the ost.

I don't like the ending
I was disappointed with the ending of the drama. However, I still enjoyed watching it, mainly because of the excellent acting by the actors, even the supporting cast. The chemistry between the main and second leads was great, and surprisingly, even the chemistry between their bodyguards was enjoyable to watch.
The drama had many hilarious moments that kept me entertained throughout. The first male lead was adorable, and the first female lead's acting was exceptional.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the drama, despite the story not making much sense. It's just the ending that left me feeling disappointed.

???
Would have preferred a different ending? Actually the that was suggested later. Why do a lot of Asian movies rushed / bad or unclear endings. Especially the Chinese ones. Why is always a lot of drinking in many Chinese movies, period pieces and modern pieces? Love the 4 main characters and their acting, as well as the chemistry between them. I thought it was interesting how they showed two brother’s life experiences affecting them bother but manifesting itself in them in different waysWas this review helpful to you?

transmigration on a time crunch
A lovely little transmigration story - on a budget! While watching the show it is obvious it is not a big scale production but it is still really well made. The female lead is lovely, smart and actually funny which I enjoyed. She showed understanding to make it believable she was from the present but nothing too over the top like other transmigration stories have done which I liked. The couple is really affectionate with each other when they get together, there is plenty of skinship as well which I am really glad about! OST is really nice and enjoyable, Hua Ni's outfits are so lovely and I LOVED her hair pieces!Although the ending is unpleasant for many, I do understand why she was brought back to the present and how it turned out she was "dreaming" it all. I understand the ending is because straight up time travel in shows is not allowed anymore (reason why Story of Kunning Palace had a story within a book kind of ending).
Now when it comes to understanding it: At the beginning of the series it is implied that she goes into the book she is reading and she turns from that book at the end. The show depicts it that she simply hit her head hard and dreamt that up in the time she was passed out but the bracelet and the flower shows us that she truly did go back in time. They love each other but can't be together per the time difference, a a la Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryo - style.
All in all, I'm not mad at it because everything else hit the mark for me. I say give it a shot !!

Was this review helpful to you?
