I finished this series a while back, and I loved it!! I really don't understand why people didn't like it or thought it was a failure. It was a great series in my opinion. I've also seen Legends of the Condor Heroes (2008), but I haven't watched any other versions.

This drama is very good it talked about love in every persons point of view. Like other chinese drama this NOT a tragedy. However does have some tragic parts to it which helps you involuntarily rain from your puffy eyes. So try it out. You might think that it might be disgusting at first (In drama age gap between leads and gruesome bloody parts) but, soon you will support the love of the two main characters of the story:) They also worked it out in real life and currently married. I believe they have a child too so like why not support a drama where love truly blossomed?

First of all, I did not watch the old versions from 1984,1995, 2006 so my judgement will be strictly based on this 2014 version, but for sure I'm gonna give the older ones a try to compare because Romance of the Condor Heroes was a complete failure, that's my opinion of course.

So you may ask what is the particularity of this drama ? Simply entertainment and a fresh amazing lead actor : Chen Xiao ; he was probably one of the reason I had to finish this drama no matter what. I really liked the character Chen Xiao portrayed : Yang Kang's son Yang Guo who is a very funny, playful, smart guy. He was not fully aware of his father's past and what sins he committed but it's like he atoned for his father's wrongdoings since he lend a hand to the Guo family and was always here in critical situations.
I really like that he was so different from his father, as a child he wandered everywhere and had no place to call 'his own" but still he only made the right encounters which led him to be the asltruistic, reliable, and friendly person he is as an adult. And when he loves someone it's till the end he will never let anyone ruin the love he feels for this one person no matter the hardship he has to overcome to be with her.
The only other good point I can find to this show are the fighting scenes and all these martial arts shows, even if it was not always well executed and choregraphed it was fine for me. I almost forgot there's finally something that I really liked, it was the Jilun Guoshi/Xiang'er's moments near the end .

And now I will list all the things I disliked and there are a lot unfortunately.
-The characters, which I found to be very plain, dull, underdeveloped and totally useless, honestly I did not understand the use of introducing so many characters which would simply die after two eps or make them disappear juster after their introduction. They did not manage to convey their feelings the way they should or maybe they tried but they did not reach their goal which is to move the audience.
If we take a look at the cast we can see there are not less than 30 supporting characters, they are supposed to bring something new to the story but I could not feel it and I did not take interest to their stories, I found them to be very annoying.
-So many despicable characters, I would have gladly hit to death :
*Zhao Zhi Jing : each time he opened his mouth I had murder desires !
*Fu'er , I simply can't understand why Rong'er doted so much on her, she was too spoiled and always acting like a capricious girl.
*Huo Du
*Gong Sun Zhi and his wife were so annoying and I hated Sun Zhi's fake smile.
-Xiao Long Nu, I found her too passive, she has no expressions at all always the same bland expressions. The actress had no chemistry with Chen Xiao and I think that only comes from her.
-Bad dubbing voices, especially the ones who were dubbing Zhou Botong's characters.
-The characters never age, oh well Zhou Botong is supposed to be 80 and even more but no he is still alive with amazing Martial Arts skills, the same goes for Huang Laoshi, JiLun GuoShi, Reverend Yideng etc.
-Special effects were very bad too, and yet I expected a lot since it's a new version, I thought they would work darned and show us some beautiful sceneries but nothing! And it's better to not get me started on that topic ;)

I never ever do speedwatching so even if I found the drama very boring I watched it till the end without missing any parts ;)

I watches one part of it and stopped because I can't stand Michelle. She is not suitable for the role. I can't believe the director/ Zen Y. If I am able to kick his ass, I will. He ruined this series big time. Return of the condor hero is one of my favorite series but this time he ruined it. I am not going to watch this one. Hopefully the up coming new one in the future, there will be a new director and will have the right people to pick the right actors and actresses for the series.

A good break from historical palace dramas

I picked this drama because I wanted to watch the main leads and to take a break from historical palace dramas.

I would say the chemistry of the main leads was good, though I did think the FL was a little on the heavier side for xiao long nu, I didn't think she was pretty either, but overall she grew on me, as time went by, I thought she was acceptable.
The ML was good, nothing negative to say about him.

It was a good break from historical palace dramas because the drama was all about the pugilist world. Nothing about palaces, emperors, scheming, wars, etc. Good to watch such dramas once in a while. I enjoyed it!

An average quality of Jin Yong's classic novel adaptation.

First of all, i won't be comparing this RoCH with other similar titles. Story wise, it's JY's novel adaptation with 80% similarity, 20% of it is improvisations, telling new story arc that's not in the book. I don't really like the story of this JY's book so i just give 7,5 point. Legend of Condor Heroes has better story in my opinion.
Acting is just average. Contrary to many people who praise Leo Wu as young Yang Guo, i think he is over-acted. This series has the worst version of Zhou Botong who always scream whenever he talks. And, i agree with most people Michelle Chen is miscasted as Xiao Longnu.
One more minus from acting is many unnecessary & illogical kissing scenes. A guy who just meet a girl can kiss her without even knowing each other? Man, this is totally unacceptable, right?
Special effects are outdated. Fighting scenes are just average.
Music, i don't pay attention to it but i think it's pretty good.
Rewatch? Nah, i never rewatch a show, and this one is a sure "no".

The Cast in unbelieveable

I saw this drama because Yan Kuan taking part (Eventho only supporting role) & I love him so much.
Well, I feel a bit surprise about the cast, and to be honest, this is the first time ever, I saw wuxia drama with so many beautiful faces but the lead itself, has a so so appereance.
Tha antagonist Li Mo Cho, also Guo Fu Er, Yang Guo's mom, Huang Yao shi's wife, Ou Yamh Feng's lover... all of them have beautiful appereance & in my opinion, the lead role looks sink between their supoorting cast.
The story itself emphasize the story that Xiao Long Nu is well known for her beautiful face, every man even Yang Guo's young look stunning with her beauty, so the producer should choose an actress with magical face, just like the actress who play Li Mo Cho, I though they shold switch role.
. But I like Yang Guo, he is handsome & he can act naughty.
The other, I have no complain .... the supporting cast's women looks very beautifull whom I think this is not make the lead stand out.

A butchery of the Condor Heroes’ legacy

Wow...
They really destroyed and butchered the enchanting legacy of the Condor Heroes’ storylines with this adaptation.
It is not just a few things that are wrong with this adaptation; it is everything.
The overall acting of the 2 main leads, the unsavory presentation of all of the characters, the directing and finally the atrocious writing are just awful.
The only things that got my vote are the choreographed fighting sequences.

*Whomever writer who is behind this adaptation should never write, again!
Because I just can not comprehend that it is the same writer behind Female Prime Minister and Memory Lost.
I am smelling the presence of a “Ghost Writer...”

Unlike most wuxia novels "Return of the Condor Heroes" is, at its core, a love story that defied social norms. This adaption should be named Romance of the Condor Heroes. It should not, however, be overstuffed with clichéd love stories.

The screenwriters gave too many side characters their own romance. We're talking about the Five Greats and villains like Li Mo Chou. Even Gongsun Zhi and his wife got their time in the spotlight. Dugu Qiu Bai, who was not even in the novel, appeared in a long flashback with a girlfriend, too. These relationships were so stale and badly-directed that even a romance junkie like me felt tired. The plot was so cluttered that the main couple, Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu, barely made an impression.

In the novel, Li Mo Chou often pondered, "ask the world, what is love?" My answer: not this drivel I'm watching.
