The road to virtue
I first started of watching Six Flying Dragons and I really liked it not because of the fights nor the romance I actually really loved the moral political revolutionary part and got amazed by it latter I figured out that this is not accurate historically and that this drama (jeong do jeon) is the more accurate historical version of the story so i start watching it and I was really really really disappointed not with drama of course it is one of the greatest that I had watched in my hole entire life but because how such amazing pure moral political revolutionary masterpiece has such low rating?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is million times more greater than Six Flying Dragons as it focuses more on the moral political revolutionary side rather than romance and fighting.
The story is about a scholar’s dream (Sambong) of building a virtuous state a state that has the goal of cultivating virtue in all its citizens so that they become saints a state which uses military power and economic policy in order to achieve that end.
Why did had this dream?
What is his strategy to achieve it?
What are the problems that will face him?
I really recommend this for every one specially those who like political and philosophical works.
Hope you enjoy every second of it and grasp with your intellect and heart it’s morals.

I would recommend this drama for those who are into political thriller, mature issues and excellent dialogue.
Simply a great story and suspenseful drama exceedingly well told through the characters. I like the way the drama doesn't have to treat the audience like a child where everything has to be explained (example you seen a lot is that character A will ask character B a question and the character B will explain to character A which is essentially to us the audience), just a few lines of dialog or through the action from the character I know and understand what's going on. I would have given the story 10 out 10 but episodes 41 - 48 is where I find the drama dragged and slowed down.
Seeing Jo Jae Hyeon as the protagonist kinda threw me off at first few episodes, some of drama and movie I have seen him in, he is always the scary bad guy. Looking at the casting list, it is an accomplished ensemble piece, thick with top notch acting performances. The weight of the subject matter combined with the intensity of the acting here will be more than enough for some people.

A good half drama ½
I found the earlier parts to be quite good with a reasonable pace. However, 25 episodes later things started to change in a weird direction and the initial spark faded away. Yet, the reality was a letdown. Jeong Do Jeon, the pivotal figure, felt like a distant acquaintance rather than someone I could understand. His struggles and triumphs failed to resonate the longer the drama kept going, leaving me disconnected from the heart of the story by the end of the drama. The ending was very typical with these kind of shows, everyone lose their marbles abruptly so they can jump to the historical ending, if there's any. Jo Jae Hyun and Yoo Dong Geun did a great job as leads, they simply carried the drama with their performance. Even their character was methodical and well written. One thing I wanted to see is having Do Jun's wife playing a bigger role in supporting her husband. I really appreciate their casting choices. Going for a mature looking cast was the correct choice. New to semi-new generation cast with soft looks in their mid 30s would have been disastrous. Was this review helpful to you?
