I Just Finished a Drama

But I had this dream that forced me to write my second casting article!!
If Only… Kimi ni Todoke had a Korean Version
I have searched high and low in the Kdrama world for a good high school Rom-Com, but still no luck!! I guess they just never do high school romantic comedy dramas. I'm not sure why!! And even if they did, for some reason, high school alone is not enough for them. The main lead should be the heir of a giant group - as in Boys Over Flowers, or a prince - as in Goong.
Or it simply should be all about music, high school musicals – as in Dream High, or a band in high school – as in Shut Up Flower Boy Band. Reply 1997 had a very well-done high school romance, but they simply couldn’t keep it inside of the walls of the high school. Kdramas just adore the “%^$# Years Later” technique!!
Aaaaaand if you have already watched and compared Hana Kimi and To the Beautiful You, then you have already seen how TTBY lacks the element of “High School Life"; this great feeling that makes you miss your high school days (if you’re no longer in high school :D ) and takes you to your room to start going through your old photos and memories while Hana Kimi totally nailed it. (At least for me, my high school was a total mess!)
So, Korea cannot pull off a decent High School drama, right??... WRONG!! School 2013 was a GREAT DRAMA, and it totally gave me the “I miss high school days” feeling. It was really something, and I enjoyed every minute of it, but the lack of romance killed me. :( I mean, Choi Daniel... Lee Jong Suk... you had all of the necessary elements... then, Why??!! *my fangirl heart crying in despair* So, School 2013 was not a Rom-Com. I hadn’t found what I was looking for yet.
And then, it hit me, all of a sudden!! Without a warning!!
I want to watch a Korean version of Kimi ni Todoke !! I reaaaaally do >_<
For you who haven't watched the great movie Kimi ni Todoke, I must tell you to go watch it. For you who have already watched the movie and haven't watched the anime yet, I must tell you to go watch it. You are missing a lot!! This light hearted romantic comedy is probably the best high school comedy I have ever watched! And - in my opinion - it should be a drama, not only a movie. U_U
The Plot:
Well-meaning, but socially awkward, Sawako Kuronuma is nicknamed "Sadako" by her classmates because of her similar hair cut with the main character from the horror movie Ring. Her life then takes a turn when Shota Kazehaya, the most popular boy in school, falls for her...
Are you in the mood for love already?? Well, let’s spice it up with some casting.
KIM YOUNG KWANG as Arai-Pin, Homeroom Teacher
Bin is a young homeroom teacher who is close to his student, kind-hearted, yet he looks like some crazy Yanki member :)
I guess Kim Young Kwang can play Bin’s part very well: He’s tall, has manly facial features, and he has this “whatever” look on his face. I think he can be perfect for the role.
KIM JI WON as Kurumizawa Ume
A cute hot-tempered, yet very popular girl, Ume has been in love with Kazahaya for ages, yet she never found a good time to confess.
Even though she does some really bad doings but deep inside, she’s a good little girl.
Personally, I think Kim Ji Won will do a really good job in this role.
Teen Top’s C.A.P as Ryu Sanada
A tough athlete, extremely quiet, reliable and mature, that’s Ryu Sanada, and that’s what I think C.A.P can perform wonderfully : D
Really cute, yet have an athlete body and a strong charisma, while I was thinking about a suitable actor to the rule of Ryu, C.A.P came to my mind, how cute would that be?? Really!!
I’d never seen him act before that’s why I’m not 100% sure about the results, but I say we give it a shot, what do you think??
RYU HYO YOUNG as Chizuru Yoshida
An outgoing tomboy, who is cheerful, straight forward and really kind-hearted. We haVE already watched Ryu Hyo Young play a similar role in School 2013.
But wouldn’t you like to watch her get stuck in a love triangle between her unrequited love and her childhood friend who had secretly loved her for a long time? I know I do!! :D
GO EUN AH as Ayane Yano
Go Eun Ah (aka female Mir) has this mature woman impression in her image as an actress. That’s why I guess she’ll do a great job in this role. She did a really good job in K-POP - The Ultimate Audition, and I’d love to see her in a good role.
She’s a high school student with heavy make-up and a unique character, like a mother, she always takes care of her immature friends (especially Sawako).
JO BO AH as Sawako Kuronuma
Sawako (or Sadako ^^) is the cutest character EVER… You won’t be able to help but admire her unbelievable cuteness while watching the anime or the movie.
She has very complex facial expressions that would make people run away from her apologizing. Yet she never hated those people; she will only keep on doing her best for them. That’s Sawako Kuronuma, and that’s whom I think Jo Bo Ah can perform very well.
She’s really kawaii, in both Japanese meanings, “cute and pitiful.” She makes you want to help her. I loved her performance in Shut Up Flower Boy Band, and I would really like to see her performing as the lead in another drama.
LEE HYUN WOO as Kazehaya Shouta
OMG! I don’t think I would make it till the last episode! the cuteness would kill meee, *slap myself* fangirl mood is off… back to the topic…
When I started writing this article I had Lee Jong Suk in my mind all the way, really, he would’ve play it perfectly. I was in an inner battle about who would do the best Kazehaya: Lee Hyun Woo vs. Lee Jong Suk ??!! I just couldn’t make up my mind. But, the fangirl inside of me had the final say, I reaaaaaaally would like to see Lee Hyun Woo as Kazehaya Shouta, LHW is the brightest actor I had ever seen, only seeing his face on screen gives you a warm feeling.
Playing Shouta’s role would be phenomenal, a role of a bright, cute popular yet very shy student, It’s a role where he can use all of his brightness and cuteness, I can’t even imagine it, can you?
It would be really great to see LHW play a lead role in such a great drama along with Jo Bo Ah. It would be a very huge cuteness attack >_<
Ahhhhh, if only…
