AmandaMarta: What is K-Drama Addiction Therapy?

Sofia: K-Drama Addiction Therapy is a free podcast, all about K-Dramas, made by MDL members (with a sprinkling of Chinese, Taiwanese, & Japanese dramas). We chat about the latest hot new dramas, upcoming dramas and older classics. The podcast can be downloaded/streamed via kdramapod.com or on iTunes. It just celebrated its third birthday with a "drama of the year" podcast.

AmandaMarta: I am quite happy that there are various outlets to get your daily fix of Asian Dramas such as K-Drama Amino, Youtube, DF, Viki and as well, podcasts. How did you get involved in creating podcasts? What is consisted within a podcast?

Sofia: I used to live in a town where I didn’t have friends who shared my unusual interests. Podcasts became a way to not feel alone in my passion. It was a good substitute. When I moved and met my co-host Gab, I wanted to return the favor, providing a podcast for K-drama fans. We are our listener's substitute and supplementary K-drama-friends.

Typically, each episode consists of a fair amount of fangirling, coupled with analysis, news and tips. We share our thoughts on the latest drama we’ve seen and include reactions and questions from people listening.

AmandaMarta: How’d you first get into Asian dramas?

Sofia: I started watching Japanese dramas in the 90’s. Out of a keen interest in Japanese culture. It wasn’t until I started watching K-dramas, 4 years ago, that I became a true drama addict. (One of those “stay-up-all-night-binge-watching” addicts. And I say “addict” with affection of course. This is a good thing.)

AmandaMarta: What was the first Asian drama/movie podcast that you worked on?

Sofia: Our first episode was a “Drama of the year” episode, for 2014.

AmandaMarta: What is the process of making podcasts?

Sofia: Aigoooo! How much time do we have? :) The short answer is that each episode is the result of a lot of time and effort. Prep-work, research, recording, editing, publication and PR. The research part involves watching a lot of dramas. We love that part!

AmandaMarta: What's your favorite thing about making podcasts?

Sofia: It’s a toss-up between the fun we have chatting, and the response we get from listeners. When a listener tells us that they feel less weird in their drama obsession after listening to us... Or that we’ve kept them company during their commute. Or made them laugh while doing household chores or working out… that warms our hearts. That’s why we do this.

AmandaMarta: Well, thank you so much for answering our questions. Can’t wait for the next upcoming podcast! Can you give us any hints as to what it will be about? Anything you’d like to say to our users?

Sofia:

The next podcast episode will probably be a “K-drama Lunch”-episode. Myself and my co-host will meet up over lunch. Discuss all the latest drama we’ve watched and share the conversation with our listeners. It’ll feel like you’re right there with us. And it’s going to be a hoot!

MDL has been a part of my daily routine, as an avid drama watcher for years. I want to thank MDL staff for their hard work and for supporting the podcast. And finally; I’d like give a shoutout to all the members of the site who continue to make it fun to come here. You’re all nuts! In the best way possible.
