Song Joong Ki tears up over the box office failure of his film Bogota: City of the Lost.

Recently, actors Song Joong Ki and Lee Hee Joon attended a Mega Talk event for Bogota: City of the Lost at Megabox Seongsu in Seoul. Actor Lee Sung Min, who worked with Song Joong Ki on the JTBC drama Reborn Rich, was also present.

Lee Sung Min expressed, "It hurt my heart to see the parking lot empty. It seemed like there were no people in the theater," and added, "Seeing there are no audiences in the theater is very tough for actors. Releasing a film during such a period makes us want to die. But enduring that is part of being an actor. Still, please give us your support and help so that the film can do well until the very end [of its theatrical run]."

Lee Hee Joon remarked, "Although Bogota has performed below our expectations, greeting each and every one of you who came today makes me feel grateful. This film made it to the theatres despite the impact of COVID-19 [it endured five years ago]. Thank you for your interest, for watching the movie, and for coming to this special event."

Song Joong Ki shared, "As Lee Sung Min sunbae said, currently, Korean cinema is going through a tough time. Honestly, I'm just grateful that my movie is even being screened in theaters presently. Because it has become so challenging for Korean films to secure theater showings, I've been putting more effort than ever into promoting this movie. I wanted to spread the word and present it in the best light possible."

He continued, "Even if I get criticized, I wanted to try, even if it's not enough, to improve this situation [our movie is in]. Still, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who came to watch our movie." "The film industry is in a tough spot right now, but the job of actors is to create good content that comforts and entertains the audience. I'll dedicate myself to creating good  works and be a source of strength to viewers."

Song Joong Ki became emotional, saying, "As I talk, I keep getting emotional," and added, "Thank you so much," as he shed tears.

Set against the backdrop of Bogotá, Colombia, Bogota: City of the Lost tells the story of Korean immigrants who, out of desperation, turn to smuggling in this city of last hope. The story takes place in the aftermath of the IMF crisis, following Guk Hee (Song Joong Ki), who travels to Bogotá, Colombia from South Korea, the other side of the globe, with new hope of a better future.

The K-movie reportedly had a production budget of 12.5 billion won, with a break-even point set at 3 million viewers. However, to date, it has only attracted approximately 400,000 moviegoers.
