Oh, wow, they've really deviated quite a lot from the novel. I'm currently at chapter 97 and it's so different from the series. But that isn't to say that I don't like the series.
I understand their need for (much) more drama in the tv series. I like what they did. I DO hope HWF and JCY will have

their happy ending like in the novel (yeah, I read the last few chapters :D )

I'm on chapter 195, and there's a mention of "movies". Is this a mistake?j

No, every now and there there are some hints that apparently He Mudan originally comes from another era. But it's like really sprinkled in. I don't know why the author did this. She could have just as easily left it out because it doesn't bring anything to the story.

Oh thanks. I did go back to chapter 1 to see if it's a transmigration story but did not look like it haha

I'm at chapter 259 now and there's nothing about rebirth, transmigration, time-travel, etc in it. Just very, VERY occasionally something something about our world, but to me it feels like it's been sprinkled in there completely by mistake.

hi, is there different ending to this novel or just one ending?

The first part of the tv series hasn't ended yet and the second part comes after that, so we can't tell. What I can say is that the tv series is based upon/inspired by the novel, but has shiploads of differences with the novel (and no, that's not a mistake. I DO mean SHIPloads)

Hello, I just started reading the novel and found a hint of MuDan came from another era. Chapter 2 wrote "She had come alive in this dead body, inheriting its original memories. A man who treated his deeply loving wife like grass and drove her to death—why should she bear his child?".  just to help out finding a quote saying as such.

Umm I'm still on chapter 131 but these 2 parts worry me:

Jiang Changyang didn’t respond. They walked through the middle gate before he finally spoke. “I wrote a letter to my wife a few days ago. Send it out tomorrow.”

-

He wasn’t a frivolous person; if he didn’t have intentions or hadn’t made up his mind, he wouldn’t have repeatedly sought out Mudan. Wu San did some mental calculations. “It’s already late autumn. We probably won’t receive a reply from your wife until next spring. I dare to guess that there shouldn’t be any issues on your wife’s end, but what if she agrees and things fall through on this end?

Since its MTL, is this an error or is he in a contractual marriage?!?? I kinda hope it is an error. Cuz I'm going to be kinda bummed otherwise.

Don't worry, it's a translation error indeed. Later on it's revealed it's his mother, NOT his wife. I had the same fear initially.

Yeah, the TV series is..... let's just inspired by the novel. There are way to many differences to list here.
But a few:
- Whole families aren't in the series that essentially make a HUGE difference in the book.
- Mudan/He Wei Fang's journey is... VERY different, to say at the least
- Jiang Chang Yang's background story is quite different as well
- They have included certain plot points that are much later in the novel
- They have invented plot points that are NOT in the novel AT ALL.

In a way I see why they did it.

I think it's best to see the two works as separate works. Inspired by, VERY loosely based upon, yes. An accurate transformation from the novel to the TV series? No way, absolutely not.

Both the novel and the TV series have their own great quality, though.

If you'd like more detailed information and don't want to read 350 chapters, feel free to send me a DM :D

Hi, first, let me thank you for always responding to me—I really appreciate it. I've been on this site for a while but never did much beyond checking out dramas and movies. Lately, though, I’ve been getting more comfortable exploring and interacting here. My next goal is to learn how to contribute to the site.

I hope you don’t mind, but I sent you a friend request.

About the novel—I stopped at chapter 2 because it didn’t align with the drama, but I plan to buy the book from China eventually. I enjoy collecting books, along with items from anime, manga, and dramas I love. It’s nice to keep these things because, who knows? Someday, they might be rare. I’d like to share them with my grandchildren someday so they can experience a bit of culture from different places. Oops, I guess I’m showing my age now!
