Welcome to the Role Reversal Drama Lovers club!

Do you love the reversal of roles? Badass women? Soft men? Women saving their men and the day? Flirty FLs and shy MLs? Well, you're not alone!

Like all other clubs, the purpose of the role reversal (RR) club is to spread what role reversal is (because there are people out there that like this trope but don’t know what it is or what it's called) as well as to share and discuss about role reversal content in a chill and safe environment!

Who can Join?

Anyone! Whether you've never heard of RR, you've only watched a couple of RR titles, or you frequently consume RR media, all are welcome!

How to Join?

Simply comment and you automatically join the club! If you want to, you can announce your entry and grab a banner or badge from the list down below (WIP) and add it to your profile ^-^ You are free to actively participate of the club or simply watch from the shadows. All participation is valid and welcome!

Club rules:

Be nice. Even if someone disagrees with you, there’s no need to be hostile. This is a safe and friendly space for everyone. 📢Hate and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. If you don't like the topic of the club then by all means find one that you do. There's no need to spread hate.

General Information

So... what is Role Reversal? Where the traditional men and women's roles are reversed (usually in relationships). These can vary in what kind and to what degree. In such dynamics, women take on the (more) masculine and dominant role in the relationship while the men take on the (more) feminine and submissive role in the relationship.

Is Noona romance / Older Woman/Younger Man considered Role Reversal? Ultimately, yes because the typical/traditional dynamic is Older Man/Younger Woman so by default the opposite is role reversal. That being said, a lot of noona romance still has very traditional gender roles so how thorough the RR is outside of that initial dynamic switch depends on the title.

Role reversal also has a lot of overlap with power couples (both kick butts and protect each other) as well as egalitarian relationship dynamics (50/50 relationship dynamic usually without gender roles at all).

Tropes

As mentioned earlier, role reversal varies a lot in its level. Literal tropes like femboy x mascgirl are RR but so are more subtle ones like Flirty FL x Shy ML depending on context ^-^ It also depends a lot on when they were made (older titles *tend* to be less obvious about RR) as well as when they take place (historical titles tend to be more subtle with the role reversal due to patriarchal values of the times).

Though Role Reversal can be considered a trope in and of itself. Here are some common sub-tropes related to it:

Girlboss x Malewife/Boywife	Masculine FL x Feminine ML	Strong FL x Weak ML
Arguably the most common RR trope. This is a blanket term used to describe a go-getter strong woman with a supportive and sweet man by her side. Often includes the woman taking the lead in the relationship but not always.	The most literal and more uncommon type of RR where both ML and FL more literally take on the opposite gender's role be it physically (dressing and acting the part) or emotionally (behaving the part).	Pretty self explanatory. Usually involves the woman saving and protecting the man
Protector FL x Protected ML	Bad Girl x Good Boy	Boss FL x Employee ML
Associated with the Strong FL x Weak ML but not always. FL either physically or emotionally protects ML and stands up for him	Pretty straightforward too. Usually the FL has a lot of issues that make her 'bad' that ML then fixes or loves her despite of them.	Where the woman is the boss and the man is her subordinate/employee. A general reversal of the more specific Female CEO x Male Secretary* trope ^^*
Warm Man x Cold Woman	Flirty FL x Shy ML	Assertive FL x Passive ML
Where the woman is the emotionally distant one, often times being rude and kinda mean, while the man is the emotional and sensitive one, usually kind and gentle.	Where FL is the one to take initiative, flirt with, and lead the relationship. Sometimes it's because ML is too shy to do so himself, other times it's because FL wants to pursue him.	This is more subtle and not strictly RR but due to how women are often portrayed in media it tends to fall more under RR than not. For when FL is the one to take initiative in the narrative and in the relationship while ML lets things happen rather than perusing things.

Here the terms ML and FL are used but it can also apply to supporting characters, ofc ^^
