OVERVIEW

As a multi-racial nation, Singapore produces dramas in four different languages, predominately Mandarin Chinese dramas, followed by English dramas and then Malay and Tamil dramas. Singapore's state-owned broadcasting company, and Singapore’s largest content creator and national media network, Mediacorp, operates a suite of TV channels, radio stations and multiple digital platforms. It provides free-to-air television channels, airing its self-produced dramas, and acquired dramas from both local and overseas production companies.

Dramas produced by Mediacorp can also be watched via its digital platforms. As a multi-racial society, all non-English Singaporean dramas come with English subtitles.

	meWATCH (formerly Toggle) was launched on 1 February 2013 as an OTT service. This is Mediacorp's digital video service that redefines TV viewing, bringing Toggle Originals, catch-up content, live coverage of key national events, news, entertainment, and behind-the-scene exclusives to viewers. Perhaps this is the Singaporean version of Hospital Playlist, portraying the work, life, friendship, romance, family of four young aspiring junior doctors, who are interestingly coined 四德帮  (meaning Four Virtues Gang), as the name of each of the four contains a virtue word “忠,孝,仁,义” (loyalty, filial piety, benevolence and righteous). It is at times hilarious, at times healing and at times heartbreaking.

Your World In Mine (2022)

Synopsis: Follow the adventure and misadventure of Tian Cai, as he navigates society with his kindness and innocence with the help of his family and friends. Tian Cai is 21 years old but has the intellectual ability of a seven year-old. He is kind and helpful in nature but occasionally gets into trouble because of his inability to express himself. Although his family are stressed up by caring for him and the troubles he gets into, they dote on him. Because of his kind and innocent nature, he quickly makes friends with a mariner who just returned from seafaring and the neighbourhood gardener Granny Bao Yu. Incidentally, this aired during the same time as hyper popular K-Drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Unlike  Attorney Woo who is an autistic savant, the protagonist for this Singaporean drama, Tian Cai, only has the intellectual ability of a 7 year-old.  This is a very heartwarming drama of the struggles and stresses Tian Cai and his family face and overcome as Tian Cai turns 21 year-old and learns to earn his own living and care for himself. A more realistic portrayal of the life and challenges of an average autistic and family, with outstanding performance by the cast.

This drama is not only the most watched Mediacorp drama in 2022, but it also won the Best Drama Serial and Best Theme Song at the Mediacorp annual Star Awards 2023. The actors of this drama are also in the running for all 4 actor awards this coming Sunday, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress Award.

Fix My Life (2023)

Synopsis: A loser in life unexpectedly becomes the "Master of Decluttering" and helps his customers declutter their houses. Through his comedic journey of decluttering, the story explores how modern people can let go of unnecessary things, events, people and emotions in their lives. Tbh, was extremely busy to watch this, but from synopsis and reviews, this drama appears to be a light, easy to watch drama inspired by Marie Kondo, to declutter houses and at the same time to declutter one's life, and in the process regain the simplest and most important things in life that are often overlooked. Will update if i do watch it.

Genie In A Cup (2022)

Synopsis: A seemingly wise and kind e-commerce tycoon Ma Dabao was inexplicably killed with his ghost trapped in an A.I. Cup, a product idea he actually stole from his son Deming. The A.I. cup he was trapped in landed up with Xiaoqian, his biggest fan. Xiaoqian gets embroiled with Deming and his friend Renjie as she sets out to find the cause of Dabao’s death. As she nears the truth, she discovers that Deming and Renjie may be the key suspects. Dabao stops Xiaoqian from investgating, but it may be too late as Deming is seriously injured in an accident. Was reminded of this 2022 Singaporean drama when browsing through Netflix and read the synopsis of k-drama Unlock My Boss. Similar to Unlock My Boss, in Genie In a Cup, an e-commerce company boss was murdered and his spirit was trapped in a cup produced by his company. He then partnered his biggest fan to find out who had murdered him. This was quite an enjoyable watch for me, with many hilarious moments. There are also romance, kinship and exploration of challenges faced by start-up company. Do check out if you have watched Unlock My Boss, and share which drama you like better and why.

Oppa, Saranghae! (2023)

Synopsis: When TV character, Do Seo Joon, from the Korean drama "My Venus Boyfriend", is pulled out from the TV screen by bachelorette Qi Qi, he completely changes her life.  In real life, Korean actor Cha Tae Woo is an arrogant star, while the character, Seo Joon is a sunny and warm guy. Not someone who have watched many k-dramas, i actually googled if there was really a k-drama "My Venus Boyfriend" and found only "Oh My Venus". So this is a fantasy fictional drama on pulling out the ML of another fantasy fictional drama in the drama. Sounds complicated, but the synopsis looks interesting. Hope it is as interesting as what the synopsis promises. Btw, the male lead Kim Jae Hoon is a real South Korean based in Taiwan.
