As noted by Marcus Sim, the Opening Douban rating came quite early, since 16 only out of 40 episodes had been released at time of publication, which made several drama news and watchers perplexed and of course, disappointed. Although this score could still go up, or down, depending on how the story unfolds.

JUNE 2024 INTERVIEW of Huáng Wēi for Global Times:

"While preserving the authentic Táng Dynasty patterns of Shǔ  brocade, we also explore and experiment with various weaving techniques. We aim to revitalize the traditional embroidery craftsmanship by combining the power of modern machinery and technology." "By embroidering floral patterns onto the brocade, we managed to present the rich colors, luster, exquisite designs, and texture of Shǔ brocade, bringing out its unique charm and elegance. It is truly an awe-inspiring experience to see these centuries-old crafts being brought to life"

"I remember an old craftsman saying that the brocade weaving machine requires two artisans to operate together, each with at least 10 years of experience to produce quality brocade. Even the two skilled artisans we saw could only weave about 6 centimeters of Shǔ brocade in one day. It finally made sense why people often say, 'an inch of brocade is worth an inch of gold,'" 

The unique appeal of Shǔ  brocade is found in its plain, twill, and satin weaving techniques, which contribute to its distinctively clear and defined appearance.

Chinese traditional costumes play a significant role on the international stage. The costumes undoubtedly serve as a significant cultural window that facilitates important cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between China and other countries, Huáng noted. [...] In the TV series, many scenes are used to portray the entire process of Shǔ brocade production, from reeling silk and dyeing to weaving brocade and making garments. Each aspect, including style, color coordination, pattern design, and craftsmanship, reflects a profound respect for history and reverence for traditional culture, allowing viewers to appreciate the beauty of the millennia-old Chinese traditions.                                

Having taken part in costumes design in the production of over 80 TV series and films since 2011, Huáng said the biggest challenge for her was to integrate traditional elements with modern aesthetics in a harmonious balance.   

"Taking the Shǔ Brocade Family as an example. It was essential to conduct thorough research into the traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance of Shǔ brocade. Meanwhile, we spent a lot of time integrating these elements into modern aesthetics. This approach ensured that audiences experience the charm of traditional culture while appreciating designs that align with ­contemporary aesthetic standards.  

"We strove to blend traditional attire with modern design and production techniques, creating garments that embody both traditional charm and meet contemporary aesthetic demands. For instance, we incorporated modern color combinations, technological materials, and innovative tailoring methods to enhance and upgrade traditional attire, making it more appealing to modern sensibilities. 

"We hope [to make] China's rich cultural heritage in traditional costumes shine anew in modern film and television productions. By integrating more intangible cultural heritage techniques with contemporary aesthetic concepts and craftsmanship methods, we aim to create costume designs that are both traditional and stylish, allowing audiences to appreciate the unique charm and profound cultural heritage of Chinese tradition."


NOVEMBER 2024 WEIBO NIGHT AWARDS +Tán Sōngyùn  interview


Tán Sōngyùn  was awarded "Actress of the Year with exceptional quality".

She later talked in interview about her character of Jì Yīngyīng in Brocade Odyssey, which is not a simple female-centric drama. She added her feelings about backstage in events of the end-of-year period.

"My character needs to repay a debt. She has a huge pressure to do so. She went from being in the black to being in the red, and slowly climbs back up again. She has tremendous willpower. After she clears her debt, she then begins to do business. It is a process that makes her realize her self-worth. What I like about her is that she's authentic.  She is oppressed by officials but she does not rely on others to rescue her. "

Seven also touched n the many red-carpets event that take place at the end of the year and called what happens backstage "a huge mess".  "A huge mess like a pot of congee" she exclaimed. "It's like a battle every time. Girls take a longer time to do their makeup. And other than being judged by passersby, you even get judged by your own fans. So everyone is trying their best in the shortest time possible. It's stressful. People get scolded. But it's not all bad. Everyone in the team wants to look great and have a great attitude.

According to her it is a xianxia, her first time trying that. Her co-star there is Neo Hou (Hóu Mínghào 侯明昊) and there is a comedic moment where he cross dresses in that drama ; next, Seven was asked to sing and she chose a snippet from the unreleased OST.

 Q: "What’s different about acting in a Xianxia drama compared to previous shows?"
"It requires a really, really strong sense of belief. For example, someone might suddenly teleport, and at first, it felt extreme strange. Hóu Mínghào  had experience acting in Xianxia before, so he knew what to do. But Zhang Xiaowan, who plays my friend, and I had no experience. Sometimes, during emotional scenes, you might suddenly need to teleport to another spot while maintaining the same emotion, and we’d end up breaking laughing."
Q: "Tell us about the show #逍遥”
TSY"The plot of this show is very complex. You’ll constantly be amazed and think, ‘Oh, so that’s how it is!’ There are many twists and turns, and it always ties back to earlier parts of the story to explain why things happened. There are many branching storylines and multiple lifetimes of main l leads. Although it’s a Xianxia drama, it also reflects real life in many ways, and there are philosophical elements woven into it"

 DECEMBER 2024 INTERVIEW of Zhèng Yèchéng

On his 3x weekly posts about c-drama news, Marcus Here! on Youtube, excerpted some pictures from the latest interview of Zhèng Yèchéng about Brocade Odyssey. He pointed out the essentials of Zhèng Yèchéng's feelings that watchers now focus on some small details, and the actor expressing delighted surprise about "a good friend offering to promote his drama"...
Indeed, they had been co-stars in a 30 episodes 2020 fantasy drama titled Love of a Thousand Years (aka The Killing of Three Thousand Crows), and despite not much interaction later, they kept friendly enough to do a get together for a photo posted to their social media in September 2024. 

 The kind offer to promote was still a surprise, but Zhèng Yèchéng did not miss a beat, suggesting fans of his or of his dramas take this as an example and not "wait till he'd have to come begging for attention!" I have one question/tip though:
The white text on the light grey is VERY hard to read. I have my theme settings for my browser set to a dark background, because that is much easier on the eyes to read. Which means the text changes into white instead of black (I assume the text on the light grey is originally black). Can you perhaps change it to a different colour for people who have their theme settings set to a dark colour?

Thanks for liking the additional info; there is some I feel could need more digging into, both for background and culture and for quick notes about artists, and of course proofreading.   It's been a while since I was meditating about whether or not to tackle a mini profile about the sweet squirrel, whose drama works and singing I like a lot.  Now there's a green leaf to add to her grove of tall trees ?  But with end of year, time seems to get shorter, as daylight does.  So again, maybe next time, if I can't do it now.

Tell me if dark purple 553982 pre defined option is better then on the light grey backgrounds ? Or THIS  (dark purple #301934 on light grey pre defined)?  

I will perhaps experiment with dark background for text too, since you are among the readers who prefer it. I tried to use that before, but it did not feel more comfortable for my light dichromatic, slightly tritan eyes.

Well, it's never been easy to address ergonomically some combinations. At one time, yellow hues on (then favored) light green color backgrounds on industrial monitors could appear almost as invisible as writing messages with lemon juice on some white paper - a trick I learned in kid scouts group way back when).  Dark settings may make it easier to differentiate, but even there, ergonomics have not yet caught up with always changing to appropriate combinations, as you pointed out.   -- Let's see if dark purple, aubergine, is going to be easier with grey backgrounds?   (Switching on "Smoke on the water, fire in the sky" lol).

No hurry though, since this is far from complete, and I also would like some time to enjoy the dramas I am watching (old and new ones, yeah ikr: way too much, reflectively biting into a seasonal Nürnberger Elisen-Lebkuchen specially flown over to me care of DHL, and thinking the squirrel might approve, if she has a sweet tooth.).

As for the dark backgrounds I found, depending on how your eyes are, a dark background with white text works much better then a white background with black text. If you have a certain deviation in your eyes (something with cylinders I think?) it's harder for you eyes to properly read the black text, because it will be like in a straight line, like | it will look as if the line is split in half and the top half is just move a slight bit to the right.
The white text on black background doesn't seem to have that problem. Don't know why it works like that, but I do know it has something to do with those cylinders.

Oh, my! That's truly a Golden Oldie. Thanks for the reminder :D
