Profile Page Features & Design

I've been a member of MDL for a long time (almost 12 years with this account, plus there was another one to which I lost access). I've noticed that the profile page has remained largely unchanged. The Display Picture shifted from right to left IIRC, with minor adjustments, but that's about it.

The chart design has stayed the same, with no significant enhancements or new features. There are superior JavaScript chart libraries available that could enhance the user experience. Specifically, the Radar chart's design has always been unappealing to me. While retaining it is fine, consider redesigning the bar chart to a horizontal layout and putting it on top, as the current vertical bars are not aesthetically pleasing. Adding Mean Score values for both dramas and movies would be beneficial. Also, creating distinct sections for movies and dramas, as well as refining the time and episode sections, would be a significant improvement. In the List updates section, displaying the score value, if assigned, would be useful. The current card design could be replaced with a more streamlined look, using uniform background colors and distinct borders for separation. 

Additionally, introducing a feature that allows users to customize their profiles using custom HTML/CSS or through pre-designed templates would be beneficial. This enhancement could encourage users to spend more time on MDL, as personalizing profiles cater to the natural human desire to show off. This, in turn, could lead to increased interaction among users.

I believe there's a lot of room for improvement in the design, though I'm unsure if the development team is focusing on this aspect at all. Now, at the start of 2024, I hope this feedback serves as a catalyst for revamping the profile design. MDL has the potential to evolve and shine, much like how MAL has improved over the past few years and inspiration can be taken from trakt.tv and other similar tracking websites.

Agree!!

I also wish there wasn't a limit to how much you can add to your profile, 60,000 characters. I love adding gifs to my profile, and to add them, we need to insert the link (https://...) and each character on that link counts as part of that 60,000 character limit, rather than one gif=one character, and because of this, I can't really add much more to my profile though I would love to.


I think it would be cool if you could also see your past profile designs, as I , and I am sure many others, am constantly changing and updating my profile, and my current profile design is totally different from my original design, and the designs after, so I think it would be cool if you could see them to get inspiration, and if you could change it back to a design you've done in the past.

You could view it like:

Settings ---> profile ---> past designs

(Past designs being the added suggestion)

I know many other users change their whole profile for a different theme, and it would maybe be helpful to them if they wanted to change it back to a past design.

The badges page follows the same url structure as the rest of the links from the top of the profile (lists, reviews, etc). So it's your profile url + /badges. There's also a See Past Notifications link in the notifications bell, though that will be a cumbersome way to find it after more activity.

Thank you for the info, but, I was hoping the badges are automatically displayed on profile once you click on it. No need to type /badges at the end of the url. It's like, it should be part of the profile design.

You can easily do it yourself. Decide where in your bio section you want them to go and Insert a Table. Choose 1 x 4 if you want them to be the same size as on the Badges page (x more if you them smaller, x less if you'd like them larger.)

Then go to your /badges page and right click-open image in new tab for each one. Copy the url and paste it into the Insert Image prompt, putting one badge image in each cell of your table. Add the text for each. Done. It will look just like the official one.

That's what I do for my badges. I add them when they show up, so I don't have to hunt for them later.

Thank you for the walk thru guide, but I'd rather wait for the official design that would place your badges automatically in the profile. No hassle of doing it manually.  Like, everytime you earn them, it just auto matically display on your profile. Just like when you post a review, it automatically displays on your feeds page. I appreciate your kind assistance though.

Erm. Unless devs have said they're working on it I wouldn't hold my breath. Probably best not to even if they have said they're working on it :) Changes are s.l.o.w around here. But hey, if you need it done for you, fill your boots with waiting. Good luck.

Yeah, Got what you mean. ☺️ I'm here for the drama list anyway and for actor's profile ? Probably, waiting for things to be done won't take much too long when an AI can do the work. ? Still, appreciate your kindness. ☺️
