301. Eternal Wave
Chinese Movie - 2017
Pretty good cinematography. I'm 50/50 on the action, which seemed very wuxia like. It just seemed out of place for a Republican Era movie. The story was semi decent.
-
302. Hold Me Back
Japanese Movie - 2020
FL is pretty relatable with how she decides to do things on her own. That's where I am at in my life as well. She's a big strange, especially with A, but it's amusing.
-
303. Upcoming Summer
Chinese Movie - 2021
Okay, you guys were right. This was much better than expected. It pulled me in right away during the opening credits with just the intro music. The plot features one of my favorite tropes. And of course, DJ XYZ (Wu Lei) is gonna steal a ton of hearts too. Loved the bright lights, visual FX, and of course, the music. A feast for the eyes and ears.
-
304. Light the Night
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
80s period drama that's just not my thing, but I'm so deprived of Taiwanese dramas I'll watch anything that comes my way. This drama has an A+ cast. Lots of big names. Check the tags for triggers, I added two.
-
305. Catman
Chinese Movie - 2021
As a cat lover, I'm going to be totally biased on this one cuz the cats were sooo freaking cute. I'm pretty sure there was some cgi involved cuz their "acting" was great too. I just had a giant grin on my face.
-
306. Love Is Science?
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 18 episodes
Pity. They mention "big data" in the synopsis like the company has some cool innovative algorithm, but really it just ends up being a drama about a regular matchmaking company. It's kind of long and slow. However, it's got one of the best/healthiest side BL stories I've seen in a while. And of course there are some customer pairings that you end up rooting for. FL's best friend is also great. This series could've benefited from being shortened (as long as they didn't cut out my favorite Mark, Oh Wen, and Joanna).
-
307. Adoring
Chinese Movie - 2019
I guess I'm on a pet watching spree. This was adorable and had a good cast. The bloopers at the end were funny. xD As you would imagine, sometimes it's difficult filming with animals.
-
308. Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto
Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes
At the end of the day, this is a reverse harem, but it's funny and fresh. It's a great story that made me smile. There is some wisdom in it too. Simply wonderful. Some episodes toward the middle did make me fall asleep (maybe i was tired?), but most episodes were an 8 for me.
-
309. Parallel Tokyo
Japanese Special - 2019, 4 episodes
Went into this blind. For some reason I thought it was gonna be sci-fi judging from the title lol. Another good journalism miniseries. It's pretty intense and interesting.
-
310. The Leaked
Thai Drama - 2020, 3 episodes
Really not my thing, but I liked the message of the drama. It was more of a PSA webseries.
-
311. Homestay
Thai Movie - 2018
Kinda dark, but kept me interested until the end.
-
312. Seventeen
Korean Drama - 2017, 8 episodes
It was cute. Not sure how I feel about the ending.
-
313. Ruby Ruby Love
Korean Special - 2017, 5 episodes
Nothing special. Mainly watched for "second lead".
-
314. Edge of Innocence
Chinese Movie - 2017
Umm, wth. I expected a twist, but that ending kind of disappointed me...so did the twist.
-
315. Duckweed
Chinese Movie - 2017
Surprisingly ended up being a lot funnier than I thought it was going to be.
-
316. The Raincoat Killer: Chasing a Predator in Korea
Korean Special - 2021, 3 episodes
Not exactly the best crime documentary out there. It had a bit too much interviewing going on, especially from police perspective. It does give insight on how serial killers are depicted in kdramas/movies. You can see a lot of it is inspired from this case. On another note, it's got some gorgeous shots of the city.
-
317. Memoir of a Murderer
Korean Movie - 2017
It was pretty interesting and intense.
-
318. Please Find Her
Korean Drama - 2017, 14 episodes
Occasionally funny, but mostly dumb. Now I'm hungry for Belgian waffles.
-
319. I Can Speak
Korean Movie - 2017
I've seen multiple movies about learning English. This is definitely top 2. Really enjoyed the first half...did not expect to be sobbing in the second though (don't worry, no one died). As a side note, Lee Je Hoon's English is really good. You can hear a slight accent, but the way he speaks, you'd think he spent several years speaking English in a foreign country.
-
320. Before We Vanish
Japanese Movie - 2017
This was really weird. Not sure why I even watched or even why I bothered finishing. It's also just not for me.
-
321. The Pool
Thai Movie - 2018
Wth, this was so dumb. The amount of times he could've been saved....so frustrating!
-
322. See You in Time
Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I actually really enjoyed it. Here's the thing. This drama was written with the intention of having a 2nd season, which never came into fruition. However, I was actually okay with the ending that they provided. I enjoyed the sports part of it. I enjoyed the comedy. I enjoyed the abs :P (and there was so much ab showing xD). The romance was decent. The villain stuff was kind of annoying, but passable. I really enjoyed the first half...the second half was a bit slower and required some fast forwarding, but not as bad as other dramas.
Also, it still managed to be relevant in a post-covid world even though it aired in 2017. Plotwise, this is a sci-fi, but there's no time travel involved (as the English title might suggest). It does however, include a very common time travel romance trope. This might have annoyed some people, but it was not a big deal for me. -
323. Street Woman Fighter
Korean TV Show - 2021, 9 episodes
While I absolutely love the concept of all female dance crews, so far it's my least favorite dance competition. Way too much focus on drama and cattiness. It was like the dance version of Unpretty Rapstar. It does get better after a couple of episodes. The performances were fun though. There were a few performances that were hyped up to be amazing, but were like...okay (maybe even subpar). The competition rules were odd sometimes. Other times it was like comparing apples to oranges. That being said, it's a great platform for female dancers to get attention and promote themselves.
-
324. Oh My Ghost
Thai Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
Didn't quite live up to the original. I had to force myself to get through it. I forgot how annoying ghost girl was. She somehow got a bit more tolerable after 10 episodes or so, but it was so annoying seeing her sexually harass chef guy. Speaking of which, I wasn't a fan of him either (He was less angry in the original. This one seemed like he had a stick up his butt 80% of the time).
-
325. To Fly with You
Chinese Drama - 2021, 35 episodes
Out of the three ice skating cdramas I've seen, I think this one did it best. I'm still giving it the same rating as Skate into Love though. There's a heavy emphasis on safety and teamwork, which is nice. At first so many people on the team had an attitude problem, but thankfully things got better.
I really enjoyed the sports part of this drama. They edited it heavily and used stunt doubles though. In that sense, this is where I think western dramas do it better when it comes to ice skating. The drama is dubbed, but what surprised me is that the music as actually pretty good. It really amped up the intensity of the races and really added to the adrenaline rush. I was holding my breath in some cases.
Now for the romance....I enjoyed main couple's story. Contract relationship is a personal favorite trope. I could've cared less about the secondary couple and all the time they spent on the drama club. That part was a waste of time. Other than that, I ended up enjoying it. -
326. Happiness
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
This was a great binge watch. I have nothing really to complain about. It was really good for its genre. There were a couple of similar themed dramas that came out in the past few years, but I liked this one the best so far. It could be that this drama was the least spoiled/hyped for me, but I think it's pretty well written and put together overall. This was basically one giant social commentary on covid outbreak and it was brilliant. 100% relatable in some form or another. Also the OST was fantastic.
-
327. Jirisan
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
My favorite comment about this show has been, "It's like baywatch, but more modest." Jirisan is about a group of forest rangers, or shall we call them "mountain spirits", that protect the mountain, its residents, as well as the people who live there. The rescue missions were kind of interesting, especially the fire and flood episodes. It gave you some insight into the crazy amount of effort that goes into their work and often it goes unnoticed. The drama is written by Kim Eun Hee, who has written some of my top rated dramas (Ghost, Kingdom, etc) and even the ones that weren't top rated, I've rated above average. This drama, however, was kind of a flop to me compared to her other works.
Now for the cons...this show is mostly episodic, which might not be for everyone and might make it difficult to get hooked on this series. The show is also fantasy. This came out of nowhere for me and I'm not sure they needed it. Let's just say ML had some powers and we're not sure how he got them in the first place. It was just random. The show also has multiple timelines, which makes it really difficult to follow, especially because they didn't exactly do the best job of differentiating between the multiple timelines. The jumping back and forth was really confusing, especially since there were visions involved. The murder mystery, while kind of dumb and felt almost unnecessary, kept me guessing until the end.
On a personal note, apparently one of my grand uncles was a forest ranger, who died very young on the job. For this reason, it made me check out the drama and push myself to finish. Luckily the show does manage to redeem itself a bit. Overall, it really made me appreciate people who protect national parks and forests. On another note, I go hiking a lot, but you know I definitely will be bringing my own printed maps with me from now on. The AllTrails app works great too.
-
328. Inspector Koo
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
I need a Santa in my life, preferably a speaking one. ^^
I didn't mind the quirkiness of this drama, but I couldn't get into it. I think it's because I couldn't relate to the villains. Anyways, this had a killer OST. -
329. Dr. Brain
Korean Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
This was trippy. Last two episodes were pretty intense, but I don't have the patience for 6 hours of suspense. Cute kid though.
-
330. The King's Affection
Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes
It's pretty cliche for a sageuk and I was bored throughout. It didn't help that I was pissed off the whole time about her having to die cuz she's a woman. Like wtf reasoning is that? I couldn't get behind the story or appreciate the villain's motive/actions. Episode 12 was probably my favorite (when her father wrote that letter to her). Lead actress was great in her role.
-
331. Idol: The Coup
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
This was juicy and addicting! These girls couldn't get a break! XD Who doesn't love a good underdog comeback story? At first, the members of the group (aside from Jenna and Stella) were pretty toxic to be around. It's like their negativity would seep into your bones and pull you down with them. However, each member had their own charms, which you'll slowly discover throughout the drama. If you can manage to hold on for 4 episodes, the story gets so much better. Most of the attitude problems go away too. The show is a bit unrealistic in the sense that some of the solutions to their problems were a bit optimistic for an ideal world. In reality, people are selfish, don't own up to their mistakes, and take opportunities even if it means abandoning your friends. However, this is a drama, so I say why not have some happy outcomes with people being decent? The music is good too. Even if you aren't a kpop fan, the music grows on you.
Illogical Cons:
- "iT's gOIng tO aFFecT thE TeAM". What kind of petty fandom would get upset over such small things? Ugh.
- CEO 2 (Korean American) wanting to be only "American" and in denial about Korean ethnicity.
- Subplot of mother avoiding child cuz child reminds her of past failed marriage. -
332. Fall in Love
Chinese Drama - 2021, 36 episodes
Maybe a 7, but I brutally spoiled this for myself. This was one of the subbing projects I worked on.
This drama was pretty low budget. I know period dramas are costly to produce in general, but it seemed low budget for a Republican Era drama. The dubbing did not help either. It SEEMED like it was filmed some time ago and shelved never to see the light of day until the chi-ent cleanup happened causing networks to scramble for "manly" men. What screams manly men more than military? On the plus side, both leads are very strong and smart. Also, there are many good looking guys in this. ;) The romance of the main couple was good. I just skipped over some of the supporting character nonsense (all that time spent on ML's sister *eyeroll*). The SL is a very likable person with good morals, but very naive when it comes to his friends and family. I'm filing him under 'cute, but dumb'. -
333. Lovely Writer
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
simple, sweet, consensual. kind of slow paced. depicts reality of BL industry, so it has awful "fans" (the kind that made me avoid BLs in the first place). it's not your regular BL i guess.
-
334. One Ordinary Day
Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
I'm not a fan of remakes, nor was this my type of drama. I was annoyed more than anything at the turn of events.
-
335. The Secret of Love
Chinese Drama - 2021, 30 episodes
The torture is finally over! This had a promising start, but was ultimately a let down. First of all, the FL is really unlikable. No, it's not because she's a strong FL, it's because she's manipulative and calculating. I would have been okay with this type of FL had this been a revenge type story and they depicted her as vindictive. Nope, they depicted her as cheerful and cheeky. Basically her actions did not match her image and the music.
There were many illogical things that were hard to ignore. For example, they're in the middle of nowhere. ML injures his leg and it starts pouring. They very much can go back into the car for shelter, but no, FL decides it's going to be stuffy and BUILDS a freaking hut instead using her boy scout survival skills. Not only that, somehow decoration lights appear on it out of nowhere to make it seem romantic as they sit inside for shelter. Where on earth did these lights come from and how is it being powered by electricity when they're in the middle of nowhere? And why light it up in the rain? It was stupid things like this. Some sexual harassment stuff too that they passed off as comedy/romance. And then toward the end there were the crazy villains and a mad scientist involved. Utter B.S. -
336. Chimera
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Okay, yes. This was quite good. I know this was filmed some time ago, but I hope this means OCN is making a comeback. Never in a million years would I have guessed that this is the same writer as Ex-Girlfriend Club (another drama I loved, but drastically different). This drama has a somewhat slow start that builds up into a great second half. It is not that easy to predict. They throw some curveballs at you.
-
337. Party A Who Lives Beside Me
Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes
not amazing, but simple, sweet, and fluffy. managed to keep my attention during a romcom slump.
-
338. Duang Jai Nai Montra
Thai Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Last few episodes were kind of draggy, but I enjoyed it. I usually can't stand reincarnation lakorns, especially ones that involve vengeful ex ghosts, but this one had no ghosts so I think that's why I liked it. Of course I kept thirsting after ML as a general, but the modern day version of his character was such a creeper! xD He's just an immortal dude wanting to die...it gave me major goblin vibes in that sense (no grim reaper though ;-;). It's somewhat predictable, but not totally obvious.
-
339. My Little Saucy Girl
Thai Drama - 2021, 31 episodes
It's not KKD, but it's cute. It's mainly worth watching for Pudsorn. The adorable baby elephant always wanted to nom. She knew where the actors were hiding the apples and would always try to steal some. xD I guess the romance was cute too, but I couldn't really buy into it until the second half. Villains were lame.
-
340. Love in Twilight
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Ignore the synopsis, it's not accurate.
+ Supernatural drama with werewolf type concept, but with tiger instead. I'm just a fan of paranormal romance in general.
+ The cast, some of the supporting cast are my faves.
- Sloooow paced. People talk so freaking slowly. So much time spent showing people brooding/thinking/reminiscing/flashbacks.
+/- Romance is mostly boring until the last few episodes. The secondary couple was cute.
- Missed opportunity for bromance, even as frenemies. I saw so much potential in this friendship. -
341. All In
Korean Drama - 2003, 24 episodes
Just paying homage to the classics. This one is nearly 20 years old. It's decent, but I don't think it lasted the test of time. I forgot how bad the fashion was in early 2000s. However, it was really cool to see all these famous veteran actors in their youth. I spent a lot of time pondering over whether Ji Sung got plastic surgery or not or if he just managed to lose his baby fat. To put things nicely, some actors were better than others. Everyone's acting has improved significantly since then. As for the plot, it just wasn't for me or maybe it could've been condensed. It felt kind of draggy, but a lot also happened. It's hard to tell. Filming techniques were different at the time. It took me a while to get into the series. As a side note, I really loved the helicopter and grand canyon scenes.
-
342. Hunter
Chinese Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
Boohoo, cry me a river. I could not get into the wolf related drama or the story at all. It does, however, have good cinematography and AMAZING scenery. It's probably one of the best dramas out there
that I've seen for landscape shots/scenery. As a plus, it has good intro/outro music too.
