The Style Team Hates Me the Most of 2021

Sometimes it seems that the hair, makeup and wardrobe staffs are going out of their way to make someone look bad. These are the five most egregious examples from 2021.

  • Kwon Yul

"Dali and the Cocky Prince" - Kwon Yool has typically played characters that are kind of oddballs. But in this show, he's supposed to be a badass. Jang Tae Jin is supposed to be an uber-powerful business executive that can bend politicians and police to his needs. But it's hard to take him seriously when his hairstyle is straight out of a European 80's synth pop band and all of his suits are two sizes too large.  Instead of imposing, he looks absurd.

"So Not Worth It" - some of this might fall on the lighting crew or if color correction was being done during editing after filming, but the poor guy usually had the appearance of Violet from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" after she starting chewing the gum that turned her in to a blueberry. Usually it's not a good thing when your character looks like a talking grape popsicle.

  • Choi Kang Hee

    South Korean

"Hello Me" - as the show began, Ban Ha Ni was a character down on her luck, in a bad place with her family and with a lousy job and things were getting so bad, she had to dress up in a squid mascot uniform. So at that time, it made sense that she looked like life had been mistreating her. The show progresses though, things got better on the job front and with life in general, but the makeover she got went wrong. Instead of looking like a brand new fashionable and successful businesswoman, it looked like she had an ill-fitting wig and uncomfortable pants.

  • Lee Bong Ryun

    South Korean

"Hometown Cha Cha Cha" - one of the themes of this show was to make the local female residents look as backward as possible. It was offensive quite frankly and one of the reasons why the drama has no business on any "Best of" list. No character was treated worse than Lee Bong Ryun's restaurant owner who appeared to have makeup applied with a paint roller and hair styled by electric shock. The character was strong and intelligent, but the style team did everything in their power to weaken and mock her.

  • Jang Hyuk Jin

    South Korean

"Taxi Driver" - Was that a wig? It was a wig, right? Eww. And it wasn't necessary.
