1. Monster
Japanese Movie - 2023
January

This was so simple and yet so complex. I like the movie far better than I thought. This is one of those movies which make you think even if you watched it days ago. I loved the symbolism they presented. The acting, especially the kids', is so much worth praising. I loved each characters and their perspective of the story, even though I question some their decisions. I love how each person can interpret this movie and the ending in their own way and I choose the sad one. This movie shows the power of perspective, and how it affects the lives of people. It makes us wonder if we are monsters ourselves.

So many peole recommended me this, that I got so curious and watched it for the Jan rec. And I loved it. Despite having such a cliched plot and being incredibly predictable, it tugged at my heartstrings. It's been so long since I watched something like this... Han Hyo Joo is a wonderful actress. She performed the role of a blind person to perfection, which is, in my opinion, one of the hardest things to accomplish without actually being blind. The chemistry between So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo was also absolutely captivating. However, I cannot give it anything more that an 8/10 cuz of how predictable it was. Had I watched it a bit earlier in my drama watching journey, this could have been a perfect 10.

3. The Throne
Korean Movie - 2015

This was depressing. The tragic story of about a father who put an end to his own son's life.. I cried through it. I don't know the real story about Prince Sado, but how the movie portrayed it was gut wrenching. I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Crown Prince Sado. His struggles with his own mind and the constant pressure to meet his father's expectations were heartbreaking. Despite his best efforts, he was constantly met with disappointment and disapproval at every turn, leaving him isolated and desperate for acceptance. It was clear that King Yeongjo loved his son deeply, but the weight of his duty as a ruler and the fear of a potential threat to the kingdom and his own inferiority complex clouded his judgment. There was no understanding or communication between them, which shows how love means nothing without understanding. I loved the performance of the whole cast. Yoo Ah In's portrayal of Crown Prince Sado was nothing short of amazing. He brought life to the man's inner turmoil and grief as he struggled with mental illness. Brilliant actor, he is.

4. Parasite
Korean Movie - 2019

Parasite left me emotionally shattered and deeply affected. It is a gripping tale that explores the stark realities of social inequality and the lengths people will go to in order to survive in a world that seems stacked against them. The stark contrast between the two families' lifestyles and the stark divide between the haves and the have-nots is painfully evident. It is a scathing critique of the social and economic disparities that exist in our world. The film masterfully weaves together elements of dark comedy and suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout. But beneath the surface, there is a profound sadness that permeates every scene. It is a sadness born out of the realization. I loved the whole cast too. Parasite is a cinematic masterpiece that will stay with me for a long time.
