Ultra series I've finished
The entries on this list are ranked from most to list favorite with some quick thoughs about each of them
-
1. Ultraman Gaia
Japanese Drama - 1998, 51 episodes
Perfect show that's best described as "Getter Robo and Devil May Cry fucking on the floor" with GORGEOUS VISUALS and phenomenal Ultra hosts
-
2. Ultraman Mebius
Japanese Drama - 2006, 50 episodes
Cried like a bitch, best defense force ever and a phenomenal conclusion to Earth/humanity's relationship with Ultraman, specially considering that Mirai's secret
is out half way through the showso it shifts gears into humanity responding to their history with the land of light. -
3. Ultraman Tiga
Japanese Drama - 1996, 52 episodes
Great main cast and touching episodes with a great finale
-
4. Ultraman Geed
Japanese Drama - 2017, 25 episodes
Very different to the Ultra franchise, but it's a thrill from start to finish
-
5. Return of Ultraman
Japanese Drama - 1971, 51 episodes
Best showa era Ultraman with a phenomenal lead and unforgetable episodes
-
6. Ultraman
Japanese Drama - 1966, 39 episodes
Amazing show after a rewatch, just a phenomenal progression of the SSSP and a subtle as a brick to the head allegory to Jesus coming to Earth to help, but letting humanity adapt and improve and be better
-
7. Ultraman Nexus
Japanese Drama - 2004, 37 episodes
Damn great show that shines despite it's LOTS of problems during production
-
8. Ultraman Max
Japanese Drama - 2005, 39 episodes
Definetly the most consistent episodic Ultraman I've seen with an enjoyable cast.
-
9. Ultraseven
Japanese Drama - 1967, 49 episodes
The theme of trust and how despite Dan being surrounded by people he believed, could not truly trust (which he gets called up on by alien Metron) was quite interesting considering that Ultraseven is the entry with the most alien infiltrations and the small hope of trust at the end was really touching on a rewatch
-
10. Ultraman Cosmos
Japanese Drama - 2001, 65 episodes
Awesome show about kindness being the ultimate strenght
-
11. Ultraman Blazar
Japanese Drama - 2023, 25 episodes
Everything I wanted a New Gen Ultraman to be
The relationship humanity has with other creatures and kaiju adapting to human made hyper structures really hit for the final episode and that the most tense moment of the climax was a negociation that even by the end of the show it's an uneasy peace.
Chef's kiss -
12. Ultraman Taro
Japanese Drama - 1973, 53 episodes
Noticed more the influence of parent figures and vulnerability the characters had in many circunstances, which the finale captures perfectly
-
13. Ultraman X
Japanese Drama - 2015, 22 episodes
Just everything I could want from a classic Ultra show modernized. Great defense despite most of them getting one episode and the idea of them wanting to coexist with monsters but their version of Earth not being suited yet for it fits perfectly with the rainbow themeing of the show
-
14. Ultraman Ace
Japanese Drama - 1972, 52 episodes
"You are the Ace of Tomorrow" made me up my score since it focused as an even more extreme case of the last moments as an earthling to Hokuto, since unlike Go in the previous show he doesn't have a strong bond left there and Taro the next year would give a finale on the opposite direction. It's also benefited that this was a rewatch so it felt more eerie knowing how Ace's kindness was being toyed with but he decides to trust in people's goodness even if not everyone is like that, not giving his life or anyone else's for a short sighted gain like the Yapool always did
-
15. Ultraman Taiga
Japanese Drama - 2019, 25 episodes
A return to more classic Ultra stuff, but wish they did more stuff with the Tri-Squad outside voice dramas
-
16. Ultraman Orb
Japanese Drama - 2016, 25 episodes
Slow start but it picks up fast on the second half
-
17. Ultraman Orb the Origin Saga
Japanese Drama - 2016, 12 episodes
Good look at Juggler
-
18. Ultraman Leo
Japanese Drama - 1974, 51 episodes
Kind of an inconsistent experience but it's the embodiment of the light shining against the blackest night
-
19. Ultraman Decker
Japanese Drama - 2022, 25 episodes
Better than Trigger and I liked both the main antagonist and how the defense force was handled, tho again, the Dyna elements are more than paper thin
-
20. Ultraman Dyna
Japanese Drama - 1997, 51 episodes
Fun show with enjoyable cast, but it never reached the emotional highs of Tiga
-
21. Ultraseven X
Japanese Drama - 2007, 12 episodes
Interesting visually, the Garo of Ultra you might say
-
22. Ultraman 80
Japanese Drama - 1980, 50 episodes
Sad that it couldn't keep the school premise but it never got bad, just not phenomenal barring episodes 39, 49 and 50. Yulian was an interesting addition despite only transforming in the final two episodes and the ending is the most interesting take on the original Ultraman's ending I've seen
-
23. Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga
Japanese Drama - 2021, 25 episodes
Neat set pieces but no Tiga
-
24. Ultraman Z
Japanese Drama - 2020, 25 episodes
Entertaining with good continuation to Juggler's character arc
-
25. Ultraman Neos
Japanese Drama - 2000, 12 episodes
Solid show, it really started to pick up on the two part finale
-
26. Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey
Japanese Drama - 2008, 13 episodes
Slightly better than season 1
-
27. Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle
Japanese Drama - 2007, 13 episodes
Entertaining mini series despite the TIGHT budget
-
28. Ultraman Ginga
Japanese Drama - 2013, 11 episodes
Really touching show despite it's LOW budget with a nice theme of pursuit of dreams and searching for new ones, definetly more solid than Hyper Agent Gridman, but lacking it's highs
-
29. Ultraman Ginga S
Japanese Drama - 2014, 16 episodes
More consistent than the previous series but never reached the same highs
-
30. Ultraman R/B
Japanese Drama - 2018, 25 episodes
Very boring show that strayed the most of what I found interesting in Ultraman, cool OST tho
