what i've watched (/rewatched) in [2023]
as long as i watched the drama to completion, it'll be here!!! (with some of my thoughts,,, mostly spoiler-free i just give vague overarching opinions)
- in chronological order
-
1. The Glory
Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
way more fun than i thought!!! initially planned to watch it because it was a "different" role for SHK to take on, and she didn't disappoint at all. the villains are also v watchable (albeit detestable).
-
2. The Glory Part 2
Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes
was happy to be fed some dohyun content in this part!!! the acting in the scenes of this part slayed- i was v entertained, to say the least
-
3. Love to Hate You
Korean Drama - 2023, 10 episodes
ah this one disappointed me. felt like it had a lot of potential, for a "real" kdrama with (somewhat?) mature themes, but the way some characters were written just felt so flawed and almost caricature-esque. it's good it's a short watch (which felt excruciatingly long for me).
-
4. Mr. Queen
Korean Drama - 2020, 20 episodes
oh my god this was amazing. i was floored- shin hye sun is absolutely amazing in this role. i love sobong :') the ending was a little abrupt and disappointing to me but still an incredible watch!!!
-
5. Vincenzo
Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes
a classic revenge kdrama at this point, and i was more entertained during this rewatch??? love the dynamic of chayenzo!!! though i still think geumga plaza folks are irrelevant + not funny to me, so it's occasionally frustrating with the amount of screentime they get.
-
6. Till the End of the Moon
Chinese Drama - 2023, 40 episodes
epitome of bittersweet xianxia angst- and i was living for every minute of it LMFAO!!! i hate misunderstanding plots SO MUCH but bruh lyx's acting fucking sold me and i was invested from beginning till the end. the brainrot from this drama is real.
-
7. Sell Your Haunted House
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
jang nara is fucking iconic in this. interesting premise but the ML is underutilized in plot (+ yonghwa is significantly stiffer than jang nara so the balance between them as scene partners can feel off). still a decent watch!!
-
8. Lie to Love
Chinese Drama - 2021, 32 episodes
literally watched this for luo yunxi (thanks tteotm..) his character in this drama is precious and i lived for his scenes + the drama HAD REAL potential with an interesting plot but:
1) FL really really can't act (don't come for me if you're a fan), so her stiffness is quite immersion-breaking at times. that being said, her character is quite bland so it doesn't disrupt too much? (if that makes sense).
2) my god the fucking second ML... he needed to be written off the show from the first episode if i'm being real... he occupies so much screentime and is genuinely the most unwatchable thing i've graced my eyes upon (i am speaking purely on the character).
-
9. A League of Nobleman
Chinese Drama - 2023, 29 episodes
the show was VERY visually stunning!!! that OP lives in my head rent-free... + the mystery and intrigue was hella fun
although occasionally still lost my interest at times..that being said, i really liked the gqz's backstory and the dynamics between all the male characters (i love u mowen)
-
10. Broker
Chinese Drama - 2021, 42 episodes
yes i was on a lyx show marathon- no further questions ty.
uh this show seemed like it'd have a pretty decent premise but the writers really didn't know what to do with the plot they started and decided to just torture the ML with no real purpose beyond unnecessary angst and devastation really... i'm all for reasonable angst but this was such a painful and draggy watch with a depressing ending lmfao
-
11. Light Chaser Rescue
Chinese Drama - 2022, 40 episodes
pretty good for a mindless watch!
- isn't particularly impactful or in depth in its themes, but the main couple were pretty tame and wholesome to watch!!!
- the writing also felt surprisingly real and raw at times which i enjoyed :P
- can't say it remained consistent, especially up to the ending few episodes, which were hella rushed and irrational imo
