Watched Korean dramas
Dramas I finished watching.
-
1. Crash Landing on You
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
This is a drama with very good actors and an even better budget, both things which helped out a lot for its commercial success. I did enjoy it and I recommend it, but I would not watch it again. It was interesting to see how they depicted life in North Korea, and I believe they did their homework to make it quite realistic, I appreciate that.
-
2. Melting Me Softly
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I really liked the beginning but it really falls apart after. Wrote a lengthy review in this site about it. Not recommended.
-
3. My Absolute Boyfriend
Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes
Having watched the Japanese version of the drama already years back and not having enjoyed it, I was a bit reluctant to try this one, and I was right. I just don't get the whole falling in love with a robot part, specially how to believe the robot has genuine feelings of love when he has been programmed to do so... the whole concept is just riddled with problems for me. So yeah, if you are watching it because you find Yeo Jingoo as cute as I do, go ahead, otherwise skip it.
-
4. The Crowned Clown
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I absolutely loved this drama and Yeo Jingoo was amazing in it! Playing both the king and the clown and yet making them feel like completely different people, he was amazing. It was while watching this that I realised he has a bright future ahead of himself and I am looking forward his next projects. It is a beautifully shot drama and is definitely worth watching!
-
5. Romance Is a Bonus Book
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
This is a fresh drama different from others, the female lead being a 40 year old lady who bags a young and attractive dongsaeng while getting herself a career. It also shows you the world of publishing and the struggles they are facing in this modern era. What failed for me is how they tried to make a 40 y/o woman fall in love like a 13 y/o school girl, when there's other dramas that show romance in more mature ways out there. In that department it lacked maturity for me.
-
6. Hotel del Luna
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Interesting story but it drags on for too long, they needed to add something extra so the way to the conclusion wouldn't have felt so stretched out. The love story also needed something extra to make it feel more intense. IU has beautiful outfits in this drama but Yeo Jingoo is (for the first time) plain and boring in both looks and acting. This drama had lots of potential, but it feels like it is just a very expensively wrapped box which is just empty inside.
-
7. The Last Empress
Korean Drama - 2018, 52 episodes
I liked this drama despite its length and the endless ordeals our poor heroine has to go through. What made me think highly of this, is how in the end I did like the villains and rooted for them to find happiness. I found it odd as I don't normally forgive and forget so easily. I cried, also something I don't usually do. Recommended.
-
8. My Strange Hero
Korean Drama - 2018, 32 episodes
I don't know if Yoo Seungho is always blessed with great female leads or he just makes it work somehow (because I have heard and witnessed Jo Boah not acting that great in Forest), but this is for me yet another great romantic drama with tons of memorable scenes and great chemistry. I also wrote a review about this drama in this page but I'll say, highly recommended.
-
9. The Bride of Habaek
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
I am naturally drawn to fantasy, therefore be it vampires or werewolves, I will always appreciate the effort. This drama is good at times and not so good in others. Surprisingly, I found the supporting character's love story more interesting and rewarding than the main one, so they kind of stole the show for me. Still, they played well the whole "god comes to earth world and knows nothing about it" humour and the female lead kind of saves the day, so I'm satisfied.
-
10. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
While not a perfect drama, it is a refreshing break from other shows where women are hopeless. What failed for me was how long it took the female lead to become self-less and helping others, she spent most of the series just helping when a friend was in danger. On the other hand, I have never felt so bad for the second male lead, all the way up until the end I was still rooting for him. She had great options!
-
11. I'm Not a Robot
Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes
Why did I give this drama 10 points? Isn't it excessive? It wasn't even popular? Well, you know what? When I sit down to watch a romantic drama, that's what I expect and want to see. This drama delivers and goes beyond what I would find as satisfying enough. In fact, I was surprised by how much I got into it as the episodes went by! At first I didn't even know if I would go watching beyond episode 2! But you see, Yoo Seungho and Chae Yoobin are actors that gave so much to their characters unlike other people I know (I'm looking at you Kim Soohyun) that I found myself grinning from ear to ear like an idiot at the screen whenever they were on. This drama will definitely make any healthy female into a Yoo Seungho fan.
-
12. While You Were Sleeping
Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes
This drama started off really well for me, but even though the plot was quite solid, the love story left lots to be desired. Suzy didn't make me feel anything, her character felt flat. It was an interesting story, but not emotionally engaging for me.
-
13. Criminal Minds
Korean Drama - 2017, 20 episodes
It is a pretty decent drama and although I don't normally comment on this, I really liked the OST. While I felt it had lots of potential, it became boring and predictable at some point. It isn't good when a crime drama doesn't take you by surprise, or when the super intelligent profiler has less clue of what's going on than the viewer.
-
14. Miss Hammurabi
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
I love legal dramas and this one is based on the real life experiences from a judge! Each episode deals with different cases, and I love that pace, while working on the character development of the main leads. I enjoyed it and recommend it!
-
15. Angel's Last Mission: Love
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
If you like ballet this is the drama for you! And if you like angels as well. I am not too interested in either subject but I found this show very easy to watch, not life-changing, but entertaining enough
-
16. Suspicious Partner
Korean Drama - 2017, 40 episodes
This is one of my favourite Ji Changwook dramas, and it is a very underrated one. I just really liked the pacing in the first episodes and how the love story evolves is very different and endearing to me. Even the serial murderer part of the story doesn't annoy me (as it does in other dramas, because all modern dramas have a damn serial killer). I don't want to say much, just highly recommended!
-
17. Because This Is My First Life
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
I really like actress Jung Somin and she was the main reason why I began watching this. It is a VERY different type of romance story and her two friends both battle with different issues modern women face. It got me thinking about life, something that few dramas accomplish, and gave me some different perspectives and encouragement. High recommended.
-
18. The Legend of the Blue Sea
Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes
This drama could have been so much better if... it didn't have Jun Jihyun haha! She really ruins it all for me! Overall, Lee minho does his usual cool guy routine which keeps working and the story has little to do with mermaids and more to do with reincarnation and fate. The parts I enjoyed the most about the drama were the flashbacks (I just love anything Joseon era haha) and the part shot abroad. I enjoyed when his character was a ruthless conman, wish we had seen more of that instead of him trying to clean his act up.
-
19. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
Many people adored this series but I am an exception. Although it isn't bad, I found myself losing interest as the episodes went by. I wish they had taken a proper look at the struggles those young athletes go through, like the gymnast who suffers from bulimia, instead of glossing over it quickly. They failed to make me connect with the characters.
-
20. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo
Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes
Although this drama wasn't a commercial success, I loved it so so much! There's just so much going on to the characters and you can't stop pining for them through everything. It isn't for the faint of heart though, I often cried and felt hopeless while watching it.
-
21. The K2
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
Honestly, I hated this drama but I can't give it the worst punctuation because it doesn't truly deserve it. Ji Changwook's acting was really bad (he was great in Empress Ki, I'll give it to him) and Yuna was the typical damsel in distress, she didn't have any other purpose more than to be used against the male lead. I liked the first episodes (and I enjoyed his loose vests, omg I saw his nipples too many times) and I was rooting for the evil lady to finally get him for herself, but that never happened. Also, his tragic past involving a Kpop fan in the middle east was just cringe-worthy. Totally don't recommend this, or just watch the first episodes for the partial nudity lol
-
22. Goblin
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
There are many reasons why Goblin was so popular, for one it is a very unique story. The side characters are well developed and lovable. I never felt comfortable with the age gap of the main leads, but it seems to be actor Gong Yoo's fate to have such young female counter parts.
-
23. D-Day
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
I really, really enjoyed this drama! It was so fun until they get to the hospital, then the focus of the story line moves more towards the power plots there. Still, I remember really looking forward to each episode. The ending was a mess though, you would expect that 20 episodes would give them enough time to tie things properly instead of rushing it all and having weird editing decisions in ep 20.
-
24. The Scholar Who Walks the Night
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
This is an ok-ish drama. After a couple of episodes it becomes very boring and I found myself losing interest. If you are really into the vampire genre then it is a must watch, if you are not so into it then you can skip it.
-
25. Orange Marmalade
Korean Drama - 2015, 12 episodes
This is a weird drama, not just because it deals with vampires but also with reincarnation and we get to see two stories in two different time periods. You need to be very open minded to the fantasy genre to enjoy it, but it is pretty remarkable how much worse it could have been and it wasn't. Easy watch.
-
26. Emergency Couple
Korean Drama - 2014, 21 episodes
I didn't hate this drama but I never grew to love it. It felt too long and therefore it became monotonous and boring at times. I don't recommend it.
-
27. Pinocchio
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
This was a very entertaining drama and the first time I saw actor Lee Jong Suk. Honestly, I never got his appeal before, but I found him to be a pretty decent actor. I don't remember all the details of the story, I just remember being satisfied by it. Also, it was a nice look into the world of rookie reporters
-
28. Healer
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
This was my first drama with Ji Changwook and looking back, it wasn't that bad, but despite the great reviews some people have given it, for me it has too many problems to be a good drama. It is uninteresting at times and the ending is a holy mess, I don't shows like that. The love line is ok, and I think this is what draws most people to watch it.
-
29. Hi! School - Love On
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
This isn't a good drama, the budget is low and the main characters are idols, but I watched it till the end. It touches the angel theme which I'm not so into, but it is mainly a high school and romance drama. I think the only publicity it got was due to the controversial age gap between the female and male lead that made everyone uncomfortable, and therefore they couldn't portray the love line in a proper way. I think all they did was a bubblegum kiss, hence my previous comment
-
30. My Love from the Star
Korean Drama - 2013, 21 episodes
I know EVERYONE loves this drama, I just don't. Kim Soohyun and Jun Jihyun, two beloved actors I can't seem to grow any affection towards. Maybe viewers focus too much on looks and less on what an actor brings to the table, because they don't do it for me separately and together this spells disaster for me. So I found myself having to care for the love between two-dimensional and cardboard-like characters for (alas!) 21 episodes... couldn't. And don't get me started talking about the plot holes...
-
31. Two Weeks
Korean Drama - 2013, 16 episodes
I loved this drama which also stars Lee Joonki. It is hard to watch and harrowing, but very engaging. Watch out for the scene in the river, Lee Joonki almost died while shooting it.
-
32. The Heirs
Korean Drama - 2013, 20 episodes
I don't remember in detail this drama, but I do remember thinking Lee minho looked too old to be in high school lol
-
33. Empress Ki
Korean Drama - 2013, 51 episodes
Consisting of 51 episodes, I was VERY reticent to start watching this show, but once you start I promise you it won't feel like a chore and you'll be glad there's so many. Based on (with a ton of liberties taken and made-up stories) the life of one of the most hated historical figures in Korean history, Empress Ki is a moving tale of power struggles and love. Most of the story is set in the court of the Yuan dynasty, the palace being in Beijing, so it isn't your typical sageuk. I really enjoyed it and it moved me greatly. Recommended!!!
-
34. Moon Embracing the Sun
Korean Drama - 2012, 20 episodes
It is too much of an over-the-top kind of story for me. I prefer other type of sageuks, but it is still emotionally engaging enough. I have a problem with Kim Soohyun's dramas which I cannot put my finger on, he isn't a dreadful actor, but he feels too two-dimensional for my taste.
-
35. Faith
Korean Drama - 2012, 24 episodes
This drama mixes time travelling and supernatural powers, then they put Lee Minho in the mix and it somehow works out. I liked the female lead in this drama, her drive and strength, even though she was not physically strong yet her unwavering determination. Many times in dramas women start off as strong yet they become weak as the male lead takes over, this didn't happen here and I REALLY appreciate it. Recommend this drama.
-
36. Arang and the Magistrate
Korean Drama - 2012, 20 episodes
Even if this is a Lee Joonki drama and he does look gorgeous wearing the magistrate outfit, this isn't enough for me not to fall asleep or roll my eyes in my sockets when something just isn't good. This story is very disappointing and just not engaging at all. I was about to drop it numerous times but magically persevered till the end.
-
37. The Tale of Nokdu
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
I wrote a review on this site about this show. Overall it is worth watching
-
38. I Need Romance
Korean Drama - 2011, 16 episodes
I don't remember the story very well, but I remember liking it.
-
39. Dream High
Korean Drama - 2011, 16 episodes
I surprisingly remember liking this drama. Suzy and IU were great, and I ended caring for all the characters and their goals. The ending left lots to be desired though, but it is a different drama and therefore it gained lots of popularity. Also, this is the first and only time I have enjoyed Kim Soohyun's acting.
-
40. Warrior Baek Dong Soo
Korean Drama - 2011, 29 episodes
I wrote a lengthy review about this drama in its page already, but I'll just say that it is quite engaging and different. Uncannily, the main lead Baek Dong Soo gets the show stolen by various other characters, and I don't think anyone watching it cares much about either him or his beloved.
-
41. City Hunter
Korean Drama - 2011, 20 episodes
This is a drama about revenge and conspiracies. I did enjoy it but I didn't find it as amazing as other people make it out to be. It has many plot holes that make you disconnect with the characters or care less about the story.
-
42. Cinderella's Sister
Korean Drama - 2010, 20 episodes
Another drama I didn't quite enjoy. I watched it a long time ago so I don't remember much, other than the female lead being very annoying.
-
43. Personal Taste
Korean Drama - 2010, 16 episodes
This is one hell of a weird drama. Basically, the point of the story is how the female lead falls in love with Lee Minho thinking he is gay and the motions she goes through. At first just loving him as a friend, then wishing he weren't gay, then accepting he is but deciding she prefers to have him in her life this way than not being with him... little she knows he is actually straight. This story is more serious than it sounds, and touches on the topic of how gays are viewed in society.
-
44. Heading to the Ground
Korean Drama - 2009, 16 episodes
This drama is horrible, Yunho's acting is atrocious and poor Go Ahra seemed lost in there trying to act but could not overcome everything going on around her. This is a story about a guy who wants to become a soccer player, but don't worry, board on the Heading to the Ground train wreck and hold on tight! You are in for a ride! You may wonder, if this drama IS so bad, why didn't I drop it? Although unintended, this drama will make you laugh a lot! It is so bad that it has a special place in my heart
-
45. Boys over Flowers
Korean Drama - 2009, 25 episodes
Having watched the Japanese drama already and loved it, I was very reticent to see the Korean version. I hate starting something and just beginning to compare automatically one with the other. Luckily, the story deviates from the Japanese one quite a lot, I would say the "Koreanized" it pretty well. Lee Minho is pretty adorable, different from Matsumoto Jun, and yet he becomes more unlikable at times. I never quite liked the choice for the female lead, she was all over the top and exaggerating everything too much.
-
46. Hero
Korean Drama - 2009, 16 episodes
Lee Joonki again. This time he isn't a tough guy who can get his way by beating people up, on the contrairy, he gets his ass whooped if he tries, so he needs to bring the bad guys to justice through his job as a reporter. Good drama, more interesting than it sounds.
-
47. Iris
Korean Drama - 2009, 20 episodes
I didn't drop this series but I didn't quite ever enjoy it or fall for the characters. It was unpleasant at best and uninteresting at its worst. Maybe I have a problem with the lead actors, I never like series with Lee Byung Hun or Kim Tae Hee.
-
48. Iljimae
Korean Drama - 2008, 20 episodes
Yes, I'm biased towards Lee Joonki, but this is seriously another great drama. Although the action scenes can't be compared to the ones we get now a days with higher budgets, the story is very engaging. Another must watch.
-
49. The Princess's Man
Korean Drama - 2011, 24 episodes
I did't like this drama at all and I wrote a lengthy review on this site about it. Don't recommend it
-
50. Time Between Dog and Wolf
Korean Drama - 2007, 16 episodes
I watched almost all Lee Joonki dramas out there, but this one was surprisingly so good! I thought it would not be my kind of thing, but by the end I was so emotionally engaged with the story and characters that I could not help sob for hours! Joonki did an amazing job portraying his character through all his changes and transitions. Super recommend.
-
51. Coffee Prince
Korean Drama - 2007, 17 episodes
Definitely a different kind of romance. It is also amazing how Yoon Eunhye can perfectly play a boy and also be a beautiful girl! The casting was just perfect!
-
52. My Girl
Korean Drama - 2005, 16 episodes
This is a very loved drama that helped a lot rising stars Lee Dongwook and (the one and only) Lee Joonki. I enjoyed it and recommend it, probably I give it a low rating because I watched it years after it was released and it felt REALLY old.
-
53. A Love to Kill
Korean Drama - 2005, 16 episodes
This drama also stars Rain (Full House) so I gave it a go. It is a good drama but not for the faint of heart, it is a very twisted story and it really makes you feel terrible all the way till the end. 0 re-watch value
-
54. Full House
Korean Drama - 2004, 16 episodes
I loved so much this drama I even watched it more than once! This was my second Korean drama and I wasn't disappointed. The story is similar in some aspects, and looking in retrograde, all dramas from that time had similar points: a past love the male lead clings onto but eventually lets go for the female lead, a second love interest for the female lead, misunderstandings and missing each other situations that make you want to pull the hairs from your head, etc. Still, those dramas were fun :)
-
55. My Lovely Sam Soon
Korean Drama - 2005, 16 episodes
This was my first Korean drama I ever watched. I am not sure how I would like it if I were to watch it now, but back in the day I found it funny, refreshing and very compelling. It opened my eyes to a complete different kind of storytelling and humour than I was accustomed to. It also opened my eyes to Hyun Bin!
-
56. Descendants of the Sun
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
I loved the start of the story, it was very engaging. As the story progressed things didn't go as I had wished but it is still a good Korean drama, yet not the best
-
57. Arthdal Chronicles Part 1: The Children of Prophecy
Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes
I like all the parts of this show and I am looking forward season 2 so much!!! I avoided watching it for a while because the synopsis and posters for the series didn't do it any justice. It is a very interesting fantasy tale. HIGHLY recommended!
