Lee graduated from Dongguk University obtaining his degree in International Trade and Commerce on February 20, 2009, and received a Special Achievement Award during graduation. He then continued his studies obtaining two master's degrees, Trade Theory as well as Finance and Cultural Contents at Dongguk Graduate School.
Lee was nominated and awarded the Grand Award (Daesang) at the 2018 SBS Entertainment Awards for the SBS variety show Master in the House. He became the youngest entertainer to win the Grand Award (Daesang).
On February 1, 2016, Lee began his 21 months of mandatory military service as an active-duty soldier; he was a member of the 13th Special Forces Brigade Black Panther, Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command, serving as a military intelligence specialist. He was formally discharged on October 31, 2017.
His exclusive contract with Hook Entertainment was terminated on May 31, 2021, after being with them for 17 years. On June 1, 2021, Lee Seung Gi established his own production company called Human Made, which he joined himself on December 29, 2022. For one of its programs, the company has prepared a performance exclusively for Moment House Japan which features a hybrid of documentary and live performance content.
On June 10, 2021, Hook Entertainment shared that they joined hands with Lee Seung Gi’s new agency. On December 1, 2022, he forwarded a notice to terminate his contract with Hook Entertainment. He then sued the CEO and directors of Hook Entertainment for embezzlement and fraud.
Through the actor's agency, it was confirmed on May 24, 2021, that he started dating fellow actress Lee Da In. They got married on April 7, 2023. Lee Seung Gi and his wife announced that they were expecting their first baby. Their daughter was born on February 5, 2024.
On April 29, 2024, it was announced that he had signed with Big Planet Made Entertainment.
