Born in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, he graduated from the Department of Physics of Tsinghua University in 1986, and in the same year he obtained the Li Zhengdao Scholarship to study abroad in the United States. After obtaining a doctorate from MIT in 1993, he continued his postdoctoral research at MIT. In August 1996, holding venture capital, he returned to China and founded Aitexin.
