He made his debut in January 1999 as part of the hip-hop duo DRUNKEN TIGER with their first album, "Year of the Tiger". It was a highly controversial release, given its explicit lyrics and rejection of mainstream K-pop norms, but it is now seen as a hip-hop classic.
However, he was arrested in late 1999 for using methamphetamine. He claimed his innocence and insisted he was found guilty due to false testimony from some members of rival group UPTOWN. He was convicted to 45 days in jail and two years probation, and the group was banned for two years.
He married former UPTOWN member Yoon Mi Rae in 2007; the couple has a son.
In January 2013, he formed the project co-ed group MFBTY (an acronym for "My Fans Are Better Than Yours") and debuted with the digital single album "Sweet Dream". In July of that year, they left Jungle Entertainment and formed their own label, Feel Ghood Music (필굿뮤직).
In March 2015, they released their first studio album "Wondaland" and returned to the MFBTY name after experimenting with some name changes the year before.
In November 2018, he released the final album under the DRUNKEN TIGER name, titled "Drunken Tiger X: Rebirth Of Tiger JK", and officially ended activities under that name to focus on his work as a producer and as a member of MFBTY.
