Matsubayashi Shue was a Japanese film director, former naval officer, and a monk, born in Sakurae-cho, Gotsu-shi, Shimane. His Dharma name is Shaku Shue.

After he graduated junior high school in 1938, he went to Kyoto and graduated from the Ryutani University specialized department. He moved to Nihon University College of Art, and in 1942 he wanted to incorporate Buddha into the film and joined as an assistant superintendent of the Toho studio.

After graduating from undergraduate school, he became a preparatory student for the Navy's third term military department. In 1944, he was appointed as a Navy Ensign and became the commander of the army squadron on Xiamen Island, South China, with 150 subordinates. After the war, he returned to work and returned to Toho before moving to Shintoho following the Toho dispute.

Matsubayashi wasn't blessed with spectacular movie awards like his seniors Kurosawa Akira and Ichikawa Kon, but steadily managed to create blockbuster hits.

He died of heart failure at the age of 89, on August 15, 2009. Edit Biography
