In one word... Yuck!
There are 4 couples in this series, something like My Secret Love. But that's exactly where the similarities end. While My Secret Love was not exactly groundbreaking or fantastic, at least it had some sweet redeeming moments. But this drama is seriously flawed and absurd. I will split my review into story review (will contain spoilers), character analysis into 4 parts, for each of the couples, then music and miscellaneous.
STORY: Nothing new, falling rapidly into degenerative state. There is no plot at all after the first 4 episodes or so. It was decent to begin with. A senior gives a punishment to a junior. Bring a flower for me everyday, and in the process, let's fall in love. So all good. Starts of with a bang. And then fall flat. Because once the confession happens, it's same old, same old. I don't think I even write about anything, because each of the tropes are so done to death. I like the fact that the lead couple spoke about the whole forever problem of who is the 'top' and who is the 'bottom', but other than that, there is seriously nothing that is effective in this story!
#BossDuen: I can understand you are jealous that the person you like is talking to others, at least till the relationship is official. But once you are together, a little bit of faith is not too much to ask for, right? Boss is constantly jealous of Duen talking to anyone. I mean, what's with the level of jealousy? It's seriously so off-putting. And what's with the serious lack of physicality? I get that they are young. But they are college boys, for God's sake! And teenagers to boot! Can there be some PDA? Duen is so horrified by the thought of a physical touch that it is almost funny. He hates the notion of being touched. Was it the role that demanded it? Or was the actor seriously shy? Or was his family against it? They were the lead couple, for heaven's sake!! Okay, while I agree that a relationship doesn't need kissing or NCs, yes, but 0 affection, 0 softness, 0 PDA? Even Gemini and Fourth had more as Heart and LiMing in Moonlight Chicken. And I hate the fact that Duen keeps apologising all the time!! On top of that, if you are such a prude, do you really expect your boyfriend to just sit around and wait for you to grow up? And this, 'You allowed someone to kiss you, you don''t deserve me' trope is just annoying now. Please get rid of it. And their one sad encounter is the result of anger... Not happy at all.
#BossMek: No words. Mek has been in love with Boss forever. He just thinks that it's better to not say anything because, that way at least he will not lose his best friend. He sees Boss flirting with every girl possible and even getting into a relationship. But he continues to love him, even helping him to get his dream girl. But when Boss fails spectacularly and wallows in self-pity in front of Mek, things take a totally different turn, when Mek confesses, giving us the only kiss in the series. But at least their relationship is sweet, maybe because they have been friends for so long that the comfort level between them is amazing! Just one thing that was very jarring? Mek's voiceover or dubbing! What the hell was that? They ruined a halfway decent couple with that shit!
#TharaFrong: Not gonna lie. They bored me to death. Thara is weird AF. Final year medical student, picks up trash when stressed, keeps a lizard as a pet and rides a bicycle with a helmet on. Frong is always in this tsundere mode, kind of weird and totally cold. You can say he is worried about his mom, but still it got boring fast. Plus the couple started late in the day, so their chemistry didn't really live up to my expectations. I was hoping for something a little more mature, but alas, I was disappointed as hell!
#KingRam: Now that's what we call a couple. Ram is a complete introvert, hardly talks, except when he is with people closest to him. But slowly and steadily King pulls him out of his shell. Not that Ram starts talking nineteen to a dozen or something, but he does try to open up his heart to his senior. The amazing part is how well they understand each other. Even without him saying a word, King absolutely understands Ram, making it easy for him to open up to him and tell him his troubles. Though they never officially a couple, they are probably the closest and the easiest on the eye. And the sweetest. In the later half, I pretty much started to fast-forward just to watch them and their story unfold.
If you have not already watched it before, please don't. It's a humble request. Not worth it at all! 14 episodes of a series that could have been wrapped up in 8, waste of 6 episodes and our time!
