SloveniaAbout me
It was year 2011 and a very good friend of mine introduced me to a Japanese drama called "Ouran High School Host Club". I was always a fan of tv shows, but this was something different. I enjoyed watching the drama, it was silly and it made me laugh. Something I needed at that time, believe me. We could say this was a start of something new, but... I guess I wasn't ready yet.
The real "madness" happened a few months later. The same friend introduced me to "Rich Man, Poor Woman". It was such a good drama and waiting for the next episode was hard. They were just perfect. ♥
That's when it happened. I fell in love with Asian dramas.
Well, I only watched Japanese dramas back then. I was discovering the classics and also watched airing dramas. I remember just how impatient I was while waiting for the subs... Why do Korean dramas get subbed so fast but we have to wait so long? Oh, good old times.
My friend convinced me to watch "To The Beautiful You", cause I loved Hana Kimi and since I was curious about the Korean remake, I gave it a try. It was an enjoyable drama, but I still preferred Japanese dramas I watched at that time. I actually didn't like how the Korean language sounded and I was so confused by Korean names... Writing this makes me laugh ^^ If only I knew how much I'll change in a matter of months.
We discovered SHINee because of "To the beautiful you" - at first I wasn't really a fan of their music, but as time went by I've gotten really fond of our guys. At the end of 2012 I was going through some bad times and watching their "Hello Baby" really brightened my days.
After a "few" more k-dramas I realised I actually like Korean and ever since then I mostly watch Korean dramas.
I also discovered that the first Asian drama I ever watched was in fact a Korean drama I started watching back in 2009! I accidentally found it on youtube and watched a few episodes, but they never updated it and I totally forgot about it. I re-watched it and "The Snow Queen" will probably stay in my heart and mind for ever.
Days, months, years went by and I am still here. I never imagined I'll love this world this much. But I know why I like it so much. It's a world I can escape to.
If I'm feeling sad or having problems in life
and cheer me up.
That's not all that is to dramas, of course, but it's when dramas helped me the most. Right now I'm pretty happy with my life and I obviously still watch dramas. It's a perfect way for me to forget about a daily life, which can sometimes be pretty exhausting.
This world gave me so much... Not only it's gotten me through hard times, I've met so many great people because of it, I've learned a lot and it showed me that dreams can come true if only you work hard for it. I am more than grateful and I will never forget the lessons I've learned. How could I - I have so many beautiful memories because of the amazing dramaland and it shaped me into a person I am today.
Wow, I've gotten too personal now, haven't I? I am so sorry - thank you to everyone who read this. You're fantastic!
Feel free to write to me, I'm always happy to hear from you ;)
About my rating system – I tried to be objective in the past, but now I just rate how I feel. If I deeply enjoyed the drama, I will give it a 10, even if it isn't perfect. Thought you should know that ;)
Also, I rarely give less than a 7, because I only watch dramas I enjoy. Our time is too precious and I simply can't afford watching something I don't like. I could do that when in high school or even uni, but not now. I guess I could skip some parts/episodes, but for me that isn't a completed drama, so I prefer to just let those dramas go. That's why my list of dropped dramas keeps getting longer and longer.
We don’t know what we reveal, but we want to reveal so much about ourselves. Why do people want to confess to others? Baduk defines its world with horizontal and vertical lines. If a baduk board were infinite, if the world were a limitless canvas, would winning and losing be possible? We find a part of that world that’s ours. We reveal ourselves to find comfort and understanding.
~ 미생 (Incomplete Life)
PS: A biiiiig thank you to my dear drama buddy! Thank you for introducing me to this fantastic world that brightens my life every day. Thank you for being my friend and travel buddy. We should visit Korea together again. 사랑해! ♥
