ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN DRAMAS OUT THERE!!!
I AM LITERALLY SO IN LOVE WITH THIS DRAMA. K2 might be my favorite drama of all time. It has the perfect mix of action, political intrigue, drama, and romance, all wrapped up into a brilliant story that will leave you on the edge of your seat each episode. Great job on the writers’ behalf. One of the best-written dramas I’ve seen. Even if action or politics is not your thing this is worth a shot. You won’t regret it!
THE PLOT was magnificent. Upon my first viewing, I found it to be a little confusing but upon my second watching along with the guides from online recaps I understood the story and the characters more deeply than before. Everyone in this wants something and will stop at nothing until they get what they want.
THE MAIN CAST is riveting and I think they deserve much recognition for their acting. It was superb. Some may disagree, but I think Je-ha is Ji Chang Wook’s best role. He literally became the Korean Jason Bourne, and I loved every minute of him on screen. About Yoona, yes it's true that throughout this entire series she only existed as a pawn, but as time goes on she gets better. I think people are too harsh on her acting skills. I mean she's an idol dappling in acting. She wasn't given much, but she went far with what she got. She seems fragile at first, but she can stand her own against her father and the vicious Yoo-jin. Yoona was also able to convey emotions really well. You really empathize with her character and grow resentful for the people responsible for her current state. Je-Ha and Anna had great chemistry, I think it was paced rather nicely. It didn’t make sense for them to fall in love so quickly, as they were both in desperate situations. They were each others’ ally before anything, so I appreciate the events that led them up to the point of having feelings for each other. Seeing JeHa try to control his feelings around Anna was literally so cute. I have two favorite scenes. One was in ep. 4 when K2 was assigned to monitor Anna and he watches her struggle figuring out how to make ramen. He is so shocked that she doesn’t know how to make it that he even considers going out of his way and making it himself for her. Watching him watch her and encourage her was very cute and endearing to me. And given all the pain Anna had suffered it was child-like but somehow humbling to see that something as simple as ramen could make her happy, and JeHa wanted to make her happy, just for a moment. And the second one was in ep. 10, where Anna put on a bit too much makeup in hopes of impressing JeHa. That was funny but in the most innocent and adorable way. Yoona was so naive in the best ways and worst ways. Now, on to the antagonist, Yoo-jin. WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE. Song Yoon-Ha deserves a standing ovation for her incredible acting. SHE OWNS THIS ROLE AND MAYBE EVEN THIS DRAMA. Her character is the most complex and well-written antagonist I’ve seen in a drama. Such a cruel and calculating woman, but it is impossible to just dismiss her as a villain because she is that good. Jang Se Joon was truly a self-serving man. He put his political career above EVERYTHING, including his only daughter who desperately needed him to be there for her. Both him and his wife sold their souls for power and it was just astonishing to see the lengths they went to keep it. He was also a pathetic excuse for a father, he felt some guilt for abandoning his child and leaving her to the wolf(Yoo-jin). His actor's performance in the finale had me tearing up. Yoojin, JeHa, and Anna are really just victims who were done injustices at the hands of cruel people. Those injustices drove them to do what they did, but you never questioned why they did something because you knew exactly why. Except for Yoojin. That lady is plain unpredictable.
THE MUSIC is amazing. This drama has one of the best soundtracks ever. I love how throughout the episodes there’s this underlying opera-sounding music throughout the episodes that sounds haunting but makes the scenes in which it plays engaging. The soft music that plays every time JeHa and Anna have a scene together was just perfect. The music for this drama just made it 10 times better.
I won’t talk about the finale cause I don’t wanna spoil it for potential viewers but just know that it’s explosive. Overall I give this drama a 10/10. I rarely give a drama a 10 because I’m very nitpicky about things but this one really deserves a high rating. The rewatch value is high. I actually just watched this again, only this time I’m making a review about it. It's just as good as the first time I've watched it :) I definitely look at this drama fondly.
