I'm always on the look out for good LGBTQ themed shows or movies, especially those with happy endings. I've seen and read too many LGBTQ tragedies to watch shows with heavy themes in my leisure time as well. As a gay man, I pay a lot of attention to how LGBTQ themes and characters are portrayed and treated, especially in more lighthearted shows. I'm delighted that the BL genre has greatly improved in recent years, beyond the initial feitishizing, erasure, and white-washed portrayals of gay/bi men and LGBTQ issues, so much so that "BL" can nowadays often be used interchangeably with "gay-themed." However, while most BL don't have stereotypes or caricatures anymore, many shows still view gay couples in a heteronormative light - i.e. as husband and wife. Characters, including those within a gay pairing, will refer to the man perceived to be more feminine (and thus the bottom) as the wife. No gay man will say, "I want to make you my wife" for fuck's sake. Sadly, it'll probably take 10 more years, or once same sex marriage is legalized in that country, for the industry to get over this problem. In the mean time, I supposed to have to get used to viewing LGBTQ characters through a straight directors' eyes.

I have 2 lists: the Must Watch list and the Avoid list, both self explanatory. The Avoid list contains titles that have tragic endings or are just plain bad in my opinion.
