Going on my all-time faves list
I absolutely adored this drama. I started watching after several friends watched and enjoyed. Thankfully it was finished airing because I flew through all 36 episodes in less than a week. It would have been even faster if I didn't have to work. It was a wonderful mix of humor, epic romance, historical fantasy elements and heartbreak. I won't spoil how the ending but if you're worried about it ending tragically, don't worry. If I hadn't known that little tidbit, the last few episodes would have broken me. They still did to an extent, but they were so beautiful too and so well acted by Dylan Wang and Esther Yu. I'm going to re-watch it at a slower pace so I can savor it. This drama has cemented its place on my all-time favorites list. Was this review helpful to you?
Excellent but Heartbreaking
Wow, this drama is intense. They do not flinch from portraying the brutality of mental and physical bullying in the South Korean military. It's based on a webtoon by Kim Bo Tong, who was a DP when he did his mandatory military service. It's only six episodes, and Jung Hae In and Koo Kyo Hwan were excellent as the DPs. Another phenomenal performance was given by Jo Hyun Chul (the brother of rapper Mad Clown), who played soldier Cho Seok Bong. Such a gut-wrenching, raw performance that had me reaching for the tissues. This drama and his character make me worry about the softer-hearted guys who have to serve, the ones who are not big and brawny and able to better protect themselves like a number of K-pop idols but also normal citizens who serve alongside them. Was this review helpful to you?
Good drama, issue with ending
Enjoyable show even if it did take me a long time to finish it. I will say I'm forever going to be upset that the writers evidently changed their minds about the romantic endgame for Deok Sun partway through the production because the flash-forwards to the future husband had a seeming personality transplant partway through. I feel like that's because they started out with one person in mind and changed their minds later on. While I like the character and actor of who ended up with Deok Sun, I'm going to always be not happy that it didn't go the other way.Was this review helpful to you?
