But no. lee wan and her share the best chemistry. there was something very natural about their interactions. everytime they gazed into each other's eyes, I could feel the staggering love their characters shared for each other. my only complaint is that the drama was too sad. like throughout, it was just sad. I would have preferred an open ending. so that the viewers could come up with their idea of and ending. it wasn't fair, to watch the characters go through so much yet not have even one day as a true couple. good drama. but just too sad

so I kept getting this in my recommendations since I loved goblin and planned to watch hotel del luna. So I decided why not? I thought it would be better to watch this before hotel del luna (and I was right to by the way).
Though I was familiar with both lead actors, I haven't watched anything with them. But since I knew that they are well known for their acting skills, I knew that I couldn't rest assured on that department. It was the plot I was concerned about. I should mention that I've never watched a hong sisters drama before but I've heard things about their plotlines and I was a little reluctant to watch this.
It's not bad. It's pretty good actually. It's not goblin level (far from it) but its good fun to watch. In the beginning it was good. I liked the characters, I liked the chemistry, the different ghosts they encountered. They were all interesting and kept me hooked. But in the latter half, the ghosts they encountered became boring. When the story needed to pick up and when the main characters were at the the brink of something huge, it seemed like the writers decided that the ghost stories could take a back seat. I mean who on earth wants to watch an hour long episode on how the rival mall's dead chairman liked dressing up as a female? It was a chore to get through that episode.
Also I hate the way the Hee Joo arc was closed. I was anticipating so much more. It was so anti climatic the way ended. Twins? Seriously? The fact that they made a girl the master mind behind this big kidnapping was just ridiculous. I thought that Hee Joo would be the malicious ghost I was hoping to see in this drama. But there was no such malicious ghost. They were all so tame and nice it was downright ridiculous. Had they shown hee joo to be the one who conspired with some people to carry out the kidnapping and became a vengeful ghost, it would have been a lot more interesting to watch. Why did hee joo's twin come back anyway? It was never made clear. I was so sure we'd have a case of ghost possession where someone with the same abilities as our female lead would be used by hee joo to take her revenge. But the entire arc was so tame and boring to watch.
Secondly the whole I need to leave but its not because of you its for me okay maybe its a little about you but I need to leave was irritating. When you have a show with a lead who can see ghosts, why not have a ghost be the one to tell her how she was a spirit during the time she was in the hospital? Bringing in a random character and not even elaborating on them simply for the sake of a separation arc was annoying to watch. And why on earth were tae gong shil and joong won acting like her getting on that plane meant she wouldn't come back ever? The entire thing could have been resolved but simple dialogue in which gong shil would tell joong won to wait for her as she went and hot answers and he'd say its okay even if she doesn't find answers and to come back when she has some closure. There. Simple. I know that ultimately that is what they said but it took them sooooo long to get to that when they could have simply trusted one another and communicated.
So while the first half was a solid 8.5, the second half made this a bit of a chore.

Brilliant performances and equally brilliant story

So i finished this show and I. Am. In. Awe. Very rarely does one find a drama where every single character delivers. From the main cast to the supporting cast, all of them brought their characters to life.
1) Heo jae: such an intriguing and complicated villain. Very rarely do i find myself sympathising with the bad guy and it was largely due to lee sung min's portrayal that i felt so conflicted about liking or disliking heo jae. I could absolutely understand Chae Yi Hun because it was so hard to dislike heo jae. I had to keep reminding myself that he was a murderer, that he had no qualms about killing again. But he was just so charismatic, he was just so honest about wanting to save korea....he had this ability to make even those who hated him join him in his cause. You may despise him, but when he started talking about his cause, about wanting to save korea, you got swept up in the fervour. In the end i was a little sad to see him go to jail. I genuinely wished he hadnt killed professor chae. Lee sung min absolutely shines in this role and ive become a huge fan.

2) chae yi hun. I had a bit of a hard time liking him. I related to him when it came to how conflicted he was regarding heo jae. Lee hye joon absolutely hit the nail on the head when she said he was narrow minded. He certainly was. But i think that was the whole point. He wasn't meant to be particularly likeable. He was human and flawed and obsessed with proving his father wrong. But Go Soo can act, very well at that. and when he cried upon his father's death, when he tried to warm his dead father's foot, i felt all of the emotions he felt. He was a man torn because doing what was right for his country meant joining hands with a man like heo jae. You could sense that when the fervour of patriotism was over, doubts would creep upon him because the only thing stronger than his patriotism was his sense of justice. We saw his character battle between the two and in the end it was his need for justice that prevailed because he realized that he never had to choose between the two. They were both converging paths. He could be a patriot and want justice, it was just heo jae that made him believe that being patriot meant following a man like him. Kudos to Go soo for playing such a character.

3) lee hye joon. My favourite character. I loved how she said precisely what i as a viewer wanted to be said. She was not going to take any false accusations upon her, she was not going to take any belittling. She was fire. And yes she did have an inferiority complex regarding her background and university but not once does she let it hold her back. She knew she didnt attend the best school and college and she was hell bent on proving that she didnt have to depend on such things because she HAD cleared the same exam those from better colleges had too. Also i loved her chemistry with eugene han. You cannot talk about lee hye joon and not talk about eugene han. She starts of by openly declaring her dislike of him. She had no problem telling the tobin tax team that eugene han wanted a reason to meet her. But then she goes from here to defending eugene han when chae yi hun was being his narrow minded self. And one particular scene that stood out and cemented atleast for me the fact that lee hye joon had started to feel something for him was when she was talking to chae yi hun right after the inspection team had asked questions probing into her and eugene han. The conversation was a marked difference from her usual stance. Before she was always very vocal about there being nothing between her and eugene, but now it was "this is my private life". Then "you are narrow minded" (to chae yi hun) to not picking eugene's phone when it rang there and then. Now would it not have been the perfect opportunity to pick up the call infront of chae yi hun and prove that there was nothing? But no she doesn't pick up the phone. Why? This is the same woman who had no problem mentioning that eugene han had been looking for excuses to meet her, that he was interested in her. But now she doesn't answer the phone because chae yi hun is standing there. Why? Is she afraid that she wont be able to hide her expressions when talking on the phone? And then the last conversation she has with eugene han was very telling. The fact that she was relieved that he hadnt been caught. The fact that she wanted to tell him she was believed he was korean, that he belonged to korea. And that he was a warm man capable of goodness. No one else could see this. She did. To see through someone at that level, you must feel something for them first. Also that scene when eugene got shot saving her was brilliantly shot. Especially that close up when he holds onto her coat, smearing it with blood was a nice touch. I know some people shipped her with chae yi hun but i honestly felt no chemistry between them.

4) eugene han everyone praising the actor and character are spot on. Such a complicated, beautifully gray character and played to perfection by yoo teo. Bravo to him for pulling it off so brilliantly. Loved every scene with him. The way he'd go from a rakish, devilish man to this sensitive man who was hurt by what the world had done to him and so had chosen the cold indifference of the world of money. But that isnt truly him. And lee hye joon saw that. She saw through the shields he had put up, saw through the smirk and cold exterior. She saw the warmth he was capable of and spoke to that. In doing so, she gave him a reason to throw away the passport and stay in korea. Which brings me to the last call. Why did he call her? Simple. He wanted to be given a reason to stay. He wanted to know if there was a reason for him to stay. And lee hye joon gave him that. "You are korean". The words he never knew he wanted to hear. And that was his turning point.

I wish this show had been successful enough for the makers to create a season 2. I would have loved to see it. I think it would have involved our heroes taking down bahama and eugene helping them to do so. He turned back to korea which mean he either planned on doing his time in jail (highly unlikely, he's not there yet lol) or he planned on bargaining with government to grant him immunity in return for him helping them take down bahama. I would have loved to see everyone bring korea out of this financial crisis. And of course i would have loved to see lee hye joon and Eugene han together lol :P. This drama is definitely up there with my faves like my mister, stranger, beyond evil etc. Loved it from beginning to end. Some of the terms were hard to understand but i was able to form some context and google the rest. Amazing show.
If you are putting this show off because you think it might be too dry or that it might be too complicated, put aside your doubts and watch this masterpiece. You will not be disappointed

Not perfect but definitely worth it!

So i decided to watch this show despite the countless reviews detailing the plot holes and saying that the latter half was bad. Adding to that, the ratings were bad too but somehow i kept coming back to this page. There was something about the plot that made me want to watch in spite of all the bad reviews and bad ratings. And im so glad i did! I did not regret it for one minute. This is coming from someone who loves shows like Voice, Beyond Evil, Law School, The uncanny Counter, My Mister, Hot stove league, The Guest, Train, Signal, Kingdom, Vagabond, Stranger, Liar Game, Bad Guys, Hello Monster (there are lots more but these are the titles i can recall for the moment). Point is, I'm a huge fan of thrillers with action/mystery. The presence or absence of romance does not matter to me. Now that I've got that out of the way, lets get into the drama itself:
Storyline: the plot starts strong. There are scary bits which are tastefully placed and are not meaningless jumpscares. The whole idea of a ghost who uses the darkest parts of the human mind and turns it against them was interesting to me. This was a ghost who was still mentally a 12 year old child. She wanted to be right as most 12 year olds do and she was angry. She took advantage of people and their darkest thoughts just to prove a point. Except there were two people who did not follow the straight line she had etched. And that is where her obsession with our main leads begins. All of this was skillfully done by the writer. Sunwoo hye's anger and hatred, the rules of the ghost world. And then the tiwst. Dealing with a ghost was bad enough but how do you deal with a reanimated body out for revenge with no means to kill them? I loved that little twist. However i give the plot 7.5/10 because while the plot was engaging, i feel like the writer took on more than they could handle which lead to some plot points not being concluded and leaving much for the viewer to deduce themselves. For example, why was that rich ceo going so far for the agency? I get that he was grateful to them for finding and returning his daughtet but even then you would expect him to be a little skeptical no? And seeing him smile in one or two scenes made me think that maybe he had nefarious purposes but at the end of the show he was just a money bank for the agency. Then there was park eun chong who in my opinion was an unnecessary addition to the show. He did not bring much to the plot and the show would not have changed much without him. Then there's the part about lee da il being back...dont get me wrong i was incredibly happy that the show brought him back, but what is he? Is he a ghost? An in betweener who can travel between this world and the land where ghosts stop before they move on to the next life? I could have really used atleast a hint. In my opinion lee da il is no longer a ghost, the biggest hint being when he changed his clothes without yeo wool having to offer them to him. Then the whole being able to control the evil spirit side. All of this made it seem like (to me atleast) that he was no longer a ghost.
I saw alot of reviews raising questions regarding plot holes, not just on this site but on other sites as well. Having read those reviews beforehand i was prepared to determine whether these were actual plot holes. My verdict? 80% of those plot holes are not actually plot holes. Why was sunwoo hye captured in the dash cam but not in the cctv? Simple, she wanted to be seen in the dash cam. She can choose to be visible to others. Another thing is that when yeo wool sees sunwoo hye for the first time, she is cradling her sister's head and in a close up of that scene you see that her hand also touches the hearing aid yi rang is wearing. That is in my opinion the reason why yeo wool was able to see sunwoo hye back then. Also we learn later in the drama that a ghost causing a startle response can result in them being visible to others. When yeo wool saw sunwoo hye she did not know she was a ghost. Yi rang had already been dealing with her for some time hence none of them were startled by her. While the restaurant manager was definitely startled. Another thing people complained about was the characters going of on their own and creating unnecessary problems just for the sake of 'conflict'. I disagree. Yeo wool goes on her own to kill sunwoo hye because she knows lee da ill will not let her. She believes she has the way to end sunwoo hye's killing spree and decides to act on it. Lee da ill acts on his own yes, but viewers forget that he kept detective park and kim gyeol in the loop so technically he never acted on his own. He was just selective about who he let in on the plan. Some viewers said that sunwoo hye being unkillable was ridiculous. No it wasnt. In the show's universe it made sense. Yeo wool was supposed to stab sunwoo hye that first time because she was willing to sacrifice herself. She knew that she might fail but still decided to go forward with it. But lee da il stabs her instead. Lee da il is a ghost and at that point he was unaware that his body lived. Hence he wasn't thinking about sacrifice. Him stabbing sunwoo hye broke the rules and so created an abomination. Viewers asked why did lee da il suddenly start disappearing and 1 a.m. that is already explained in the show so i wont get into it. A question i saw raised by a review in another site was that why didnt lee da il disappear with sunwoo hye the first time he held on to her the first time she disappeared at 1 a.m but was able to hold on to her in the last episode and take her to his body. The explanation is simple. Lee da il was a pure ghost the first time he touched sunwoo hye. She was evil while at that point he couldn't touch anything. It was painful for him to even touch her. Therr were too many variables as well. The first time it was sunwoo who was disappearing. In the last episode lee da il had been corrupted by the powers he had gained and so was able to touch her and keep hold of her. Also sunwoo was weak. Like gil chae won said, she was AB to ghost meaning a universal donor. When her abilities disappeared, so did her AB blood group meaning that sunwoo faced what we call in medical terms a tranfusion reaction due to mismatched blood. That weakened her beyond belief. Some people were incredulous about the whole poison the drinks to cause a mass murder. But in my opinion when you keep in mind that sunwoo is a 12 year old, it made perfect sense. Her ability to change clothes? She can simply control people and take their clothes. She doesnt even have to kill them for it. She can stay in different houses and the owners wouldn't even remember the next day. I hope i have answered most of the doubts viewers might be having.

Characters: i loved all of them. Yeo wool was a wonderful character. Brave, strong, relentless and willing to sacrifice herself in the end. Lee da il was an amazing hero. His little smile followed by "how dangerous can a ghost be" was when I knew he was going to be a terrific hero. I loved gil chae won too. She was a sassy character. This show proved that it is possible to have more than one strong female character and not necessary to add any conflict between them. I didn't like detective park initially but he grew on me.

Acting: it was perfect except for the guy who played detective park's partner. Everyone else was spot on. There were a few particular moments that stood out for me. When lee da il and yeo wool are sitting in the hopsital next lee da il's living body and talking, that particular moment when choi daniel changed the tone of his voice and you can hear the heaviness, the sorrow, the need to be next to yeo wool, the desperation to live with her, it was a great bit of acting. Then there is the part when gil chae won is telling sunwoo about her being AB blood group to ghosts, sunwoo asks why she is telling her that to which gil chae won responds with "to confuse you" the cherry on top was the smirk and head tilt. It was a nice touch. Park eun bin had several shining moments but one in particular was when she was possessed but sunwoo hye. Her walk, her smile, head tilt everything was spot on. I loved it

Chemistry: it was amaaaaazing. I love shows like these where the love story touches you deeply. It reminded me of the love story in train. It was beautiful and it made me believe that our two leads would overcome everything just to be next to each other. The first time they hugged was one of my favourite moments. You could feel what they feel. I truly want park eun bin and choi daniel to be cast in another show, an ocn show preferably.

The ending: i choose to believe that it was a happy ending. See the thing is, in the realm of fantasy anything is possible. In the realm of fantasy the rules are not so rigid. Being an avid reader, i have read so many books under the fantasy genre where ghosts become human, vampires become humans, people travel to the past, people have super powers. Even in kdramas like goblin and angel's last mission we saw impossible things happen. So why cant Lee Da Il become human again? I choose to believe that because his sacrifice was so noble, he was given a second chance and eventually he'll become human. He came back to the real world after he heard yeo wool's voice but he stayed away from her to give her a chance at a living normal life. But they found each other again. He was the most selfless hero i have seen in a long time and it is my belief that his selflessness was rewarded in the end. He'll become a human eventually and his ability to travel in between worlds will ensure that they won't have to make another sacrifice to get rid of ghosts. So in the end i will rate the drama a 9/10 despite its imperfections because i enjoyed it and it made me smile.

Here's to hoping that someone decides to cast these talented leads in another drama, preferably another mystery thriller. Loved them together.

I really need a season 2. We deserve a season 2. This show, this absolutely brilliant show deserves a season 2 because we've only just touched the tip of the ice berg in these 12 episodes. I know it's been a long time. It has been 6 years. But I'm still hopeful that this will get a season 2.
I loved how the romance was only hinted at and wasn't the focus. Don't get me wrong, I love romance in dramas. But this was refreshing because the lack of a romantic subplot meant the leads were able to focus on the game and the game alone without any distractions.
I loved how woo jin helped turn nam da jung's so called 'weakness' to trust in others, into great strength. I loved how he played by her rules, which he didn't even believe in initially, and still ended up winning. I loved how he didn't try to force her to deceive others. I was afraid when I first started watching this that we'd have our hero showing he frustration at our heroine's trustful nature and make her change it by showing her how deception can be more advantageous (I'm not familiar with the original source material so I though this might be how it'll go) but man I was pleasantly surprised! He knows she has her morals. That she can't and won't. And he decides to change his rules so that she wont have to change anything about herself. He lets himself be the 'vicious dog' when the situation demands it so that she won't have to do something she cannot
I loved how NDJ never considers changing herself. She is confident that her morals are her strength. She very rarely doubts her trusting nature which is why her character is no mere damsel in distress. It was a powerful moment in the end, when faced with so much evidence, she still trusts WJ because she knows him well enough.
I loved jamie and I loved dal goo.
And I loved Do young. Possibly the best villain ever. Because he doesn't try to get anyone's sympathy. He's charming. He's devious. He's manipulative. And I want to see more of such villains in kdramas. That can make you feel their pain without shedding tears.
It's rare to find a show that has you hooked from beginning to end with no boring moments. This was such a show.

this drama has made it to my top 3. I cannot believe I put it off for so long. This was a treat to watch and I'm said to hear that it did not get the ratings it deserves in Korea. But oh well, we live in a global age so I'm pretty sure the international recognition makes up for it
Since KMHM and healer have some similarities, I'll go ahead and say I loved this more than healer. With healer, there were times I felt my interest dwindle, when my attention would wander. KMHM kept me hooked. I know some people did not like the many flashbacks but I did not mind them (I loved goblin and that had soooo many flashbacks) in fact, every time the show revisited the past, I would find myself noticing details I hadn't before. How even the simplest of phrases uttered by our leads had so much more to them. I loved that particularly.
I watched (and dropped) Secret fairly recently. I did not like the plot, I thought it was boring and the characters were unlikeable (to me at least). But I could not deny that the leads had chemistry and that their acting was top notch.
In Secret, it was Hwang jung eum who captured my attention. But in KMHM it was ji sung. By this I don't mean that his acting wasn't good in Secret or that her acting wasn't good in KMHM. It's just that in secret we saw more of the female lead's emotional scars which automatically gave her more to work with. While in KMHM, ji sung had to play 7 people so obviously my attention remained on him. But hwang jung eum held her own and I loved her in this show too.
Cast was amazing. Story was amazing. I'm playing the ost on loop. Shin se gi and cha do hyun were charming and I loved watching them struggle with each other. Company politics was in the background which is how I like it. Not once did I get bored, no episode felt like it was a mere filler. I was hooked from beginning to end.
So why not a 10? This is a close 10 but there were two things that bothered me a little
Firstly, there was no need to show that Oh ri on had feelings for Oh ri jin. I loved the bond these step siblings shared and I felt that ri on having feelings for ri jin only added needless complications to that beautiful bond. It had no relevance to the plot and seemed like a forced attempt at creating a second lead (wasn't required since we had shin se gi, that lump of appeal lol)
And secondly, I preferred the scenes when the FL would let her tears flow silently with the occasional sniffle. When she would wail-cry, I felt the scene didn't have have the same emotional touch. It was okay to show her wailing for a few seconds and then mute the rest, so that the viewers could see the agony on her face. But it kept going on and on and on....
Those are the only things that bothered me
Other than that, this show is prettu terrific and I would recommend that anyone putting it off for whatever reason should watch it immediately.

The first episode captivated me. It was beautiful and I definitely enjoyed it. But as the episodes went on, I became less invested in the story lines of the guests and more impatient to see man wol and chan sung's story, man wol's past.
What I liked about the show:
1) the acting. I'm a huge IU fan and I watched this show because of her and she absolutely convinced me of her character as the immortal man wol. Despite her being so young, she conveyed an ageless wisdom with her eyes.
I have not seen anything with yeo jin goo but I was blown away by his acting skills. He and IU had definite chemistry.
2) the ost. I might not listen to them as separate songs (done for me and another day being exceptions) but they definitely complemented the show.
3) cinematography was beautiful. It was charming.
4) the way the makers handled the plotline of the vengeful ghost of the young woman whose video was made viral. That was in my opinion the most interesting episode
5) loved the way ms.choi's arc was completed. Her arc touched me the most and her conclusion was beautiful.

What I didn't like:
1) the amount of time each guest would be given per episode. There needs to be a balance because we need the already present characters to develop too.
2) the way the arc of man wol's first love was handled. I think its because the plot of the show is a little similar to goblin but I couldn't help compare and appreciate how goblin handled the whole grim reaper and Kim shin confrontation better. Considering how man won spent 1300 years resenting this man who she believed to have betrayed her, the moment they finally met was so lackluster. It was like she felt nothing. No emotions at all. Just because she had found love with chan seung did not mean she could not have had one decent conversation with ko chung myung. Same goes with the reincarnation of yeon yu. I liked the way goblin handled the subject. How despite sunny not knowing her brother in her current life, he still managed to get to her. I would have liked to the main characters from that time 1300 years ago to have alteast one moment where they were togetger. The fact that there was barely any interaction made the 1300 years of wait seem like a childish thing whereas we know it wasn't. It was 1300 years of pain, anger, resentment, hate and self loathing. Not to mention that ko chung myung stayed with her as her first guest. But not even that is acknowledged by man wol. It was all kinda anti climatic. Given the build up. Also it kills me that man wol will never know that it was ko chun myung who brought back chan sung safely from the tunnel. I'm not saying that what ko chun myung did 1300 years ago was right. There were many ways he could have avoided the situation. But given that he more than paid for what he did, I expect more from when the two would finally face each other. Both having lived 1300 years with the past in their hearts.
3) the episode in which man wol gives the hair pin to vengeful ghost out for for chan sung. I get it. She thought he was the reincarnation of that man she had hated for 1300 years. But I kept thinking that she would not go through with it. That she'd come and save chan sung. But she didn't and was prepared to vanish. I think that was the only time I genuinely disliked man wol. And because that particular moment is never addressed again, I could never like man wol as much as did before. She would have gone through with it. She would have killed chan sung through that ghost and taken the coward's way out by vanishing. The fact that she couldn't stab chan sung when he offered her the dagger meant nothing to me as a viewer because man wol had already stated that the reason she gave the ghost the pin was because she could not kill chan sung herself. So why did her letting go of the dagger mean she was overcoming her hate when she really wasn't? I wish that this particular plot line had been handled better. Like man wol giving the ghost that pin so that it would finally come out into the open, confident in its new found power, while she secretly protected chan sung. They could have shown that she didn't tell chan sung to make it seem like chan sung had truly been abandoned and so they chan sung could go look for the ghost and be more believable about how he had been abandoned by man wol. They could have even shown man wol having a change of heart at the very last minute and showing that it didn't matter to her who chan sung was in his previous life. By showing that she gave the pin to the ghost and by not doing anything she showed that nothing had changed for her. I'm bringing goblin back into this because we saw the way Kim shin came to terms with grim reaper being the king's reincarnation and the way it was handled was beautiful. In hotel del luna, this was poorly handled in my opinion.

That being said, it was a good show with solid performances, good chemistry between the leads and I honestly do get the hype. And atleast this show did not shy away from showing some truly malicious ghosts (unlike Master's sun which made it seem like all ghosts were nice and not dangerous)

My absolute favourite moments would be when man wol reaches the tunnel where chan sung had mistakenly gone and runs to him when she seems him. That moment when man wol's cold exterior came crashing down and she felt true desperation will always stay in my mind. And secondly when man wol fights with ko chun myung and he talks to her about he had wanted to see her dressed as his bride, as she waited for him. How he would then reach out and touch her cheek. For some reason that scene hit me hard. I was all choked up because here she was, the girl he wanted to marry, dressed as the bride but holding a sword to his neck. That moment was strong and kudos to the actors for making it so. Third moment was when man wol returned after seeing off ko chun Myung and chan sung ran to her and just held her, not letting go for a second. the way he enveloped her in his arms and stood there, shaking, was a brilliant bit of acting.

As for the end, since I love happy endings, im going to stick with my interpretation: that chan sung and man wol met each other after they were reincarnated and they remembered one another (hence chan sung reading the book existence and time). I'd like to think that this particular blessing of remembering one another was a favour granted by the magos to the staff of hotel del luna for all they did to help the ghost guests. its also possible that chan sung was not reincarnated and man wol came in his current life time (which is possible since the show told us that time flowed differently beyond the bridge)since we don't see yuna in the park where everyone else is which is odd because everyone else was there. so I stick to happy ending version cuz I love happy endings
