roller-coaster of a movie
Start to finish this was an interesting watch. I was fully engaged the whole time. It has action, comedy, romance, the works, and all of it's decent. It is, to be fair, very weird. The premise is a little odd but the execution is even more so. Half the time I barely had a grip on what was happening - but I somehow feel like that enhanced the experience. And eventually things all come together in a neat, satisfying package.
If you like slightly-weird-but-genuinely-good movies, you won't regret watching this one.

funny and engaging
I went into this show with pretty low expectations, but it was one of the funniest I watched last year. The comedic over-acting was so well done it made me laugh instead of cringe. I liked all the actors, the settings, and the overall vibe. The plot is a bit wishy-washy; it comes and goes in importance, but always comes back around to at least loosely tie together. Intrigue comes into it later and things get more complicated in ways that may not always make total sense, but are guaranteed to be funny.
Just shelve a little bit of your brain to watch and this is a 10/10 comedy for sure.

review of season 1:
A good lighthearted show to turn off your brain and watch for a while. No major complaints. The romance, plot, and action are neither here nor there - not great, but funny if you're watching for the comedy. It has good comedic timing and manufactured lengthy awkwardness. The effects could definitely be better and so could the acting, but overall it's on par with what I expected. The ML and FL both had a potentially irritating vibe to them but it didn't really bother me, and the side characters were funny.
If the second season becomes available on more platforms I'll definitely give it a watch at some point.

one of the only shows ever to have made me cry
Hikaru no Go is genuinely so good. It's a pretty realistic coming-of-age story with fantasy elements that don't overwhelm the plot but rather enhance it.Unfortunately I haven't seen/read the original media so I can't review it as an adaptation, but as a standalone show it's fantastic. Good pacing, good plot, plenty of ups and downs. Likeable and three-dimensional characters with plenty of flaws and bad decisions. Plenty of character growth. Unexpected plot twists, nice cinematography, good acting. Comedy and drama in equal measure.
I really have no complaints. This is one of the only shows that's ever made me actually cry, which was wildly unexpected, but goes to show how good the actors are and how well they portrayed experiences. And how good the framing was too for everything. Nothing felt like a scene in isolation and nothing felt out of place, everything flowed. I'd give it a 10 if I'd had no reason to cry in the first place!
